KOS-MOS

Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of KOS-MOS with sound clips and images.
Franchise: Xenosaga

KOS MOS is one of the primary protagonists of the Xenosaga series whom made her debut in the original game in the Xenosaga series. KOS MOS is an armored gynoid that was created by interstellar company Vector Industries whom was created to destroy the Gnossis monsters that attack humans. Shion Uzuki is KOS MOS' co-creator whom she protects unconditionally and they have a very close relationship with. KOS MOS' name is a recursive acronym which means Kosmos Obey Strategical Multiple Operation Systems and while she appears to be purely emotionless over the course of the series she shows a bit more of a ability to show emotion/

EDITOR'S OPINION

Today for New Years Eve we take a look at this Mechanized Action Girl... KOS MOS! And for this VC we shall try a somewhat different style of review here...

Bridget Hoffman- Nice and Calm and yet it sounds suitably robotic, definitely an interesting change of pace for Bridget's work here and is a very good example of the voice work in the games.

Colleen O'Shaughnessy- Colleen's work on the work is not bad even though she doesn't sound quite robotic enough compared to the other VA's here. But Colleen's performance does suit KOS MOS' caring nature nevertheless so its definitely not a bad performance even if its not exactly one of Colleen's best here.

Luci Christian- Luci's work on the role is easily one of the better performances in the dub of the TV show as not only does sound suitably robotic but she also sounds really strong as well. Luci has done some pretty good work in the "Action Girl" archetype but to me this is probably one of Luci's better "Action Girl" performances.

Overall I am going with Bridget and Luci the most with Colleen being a pretty good second.

My order:

1-Hoffman: She perfectly portrays the robotic nature of said character. And I feel like her voice sounds the appropriate age.

2-Christian: Really good performance. I think the only issue is doesn't sound quite as robotic as Hoffman's.

3-O'Shaughnessey: She's a bit miscast in this role. I feel her voice is too young sounding for the character.

4-Thorburn: A bit too gentle sounding. And I feel like she's trying to keep the KOS-MOS tone but she keeps slipping.

Caitlin sounds really flat, I actually prefer Colleen over her

Kos Mos or as I like to call her the OG Aigis. All things considered she's a pretty cool character altogether.
Bridget Hoffman killed it here. She sounded robotic, just some what lively and vague.
Luci Christian is a close second but she's not as vague and lacked an edge.
Colleen O'Shaughnessey comes in third. She sounds to human and not as mysterious.
And last of all we have her XC2 VA Caitlin Thornburn. All things considered I really didn't like Caitlin Thornburn as Kos Mos. I know she's supposed to be a robot but she just sounded so...flat in her delivery. If anything being recasted in XC2 was the worst thing to happen to her since getting paired up with Fiora in Project X Zone (seriously no one deserves a punishment that brutal). I do hope that they get Bridget Hoffman back should they revive the series. I know they'll have to unionize it but I honestly feel that it would be worth it (not to mention it'll get Crispin Freeman back so that would be a plus).

@Soul-dragon
What's wrong with Fiora? This is an honest question: I have never played the Xenoblade Chronicles games.

@mdalsted I HATE her character. She's basically your average RPG love interest. Madly in love, bubbly, cheerful, upbeat...her relationship with Shulk is also beyond bland. They look to similar to be considered colorful or flashy and their childhood friends. One of my other many issues is that all she cares about is Shulk. The entire world could be burning and she wouldn't care as long as he was safe. Granted many characters I enjoy are like this but the huge difference between them and her is that they actually have good reasons for their undying devotion. Fiora only really likes Shulk because they grew up together and her brother is the most attractive man in the Colony. Bland, boring, unattractive, weak... she's literally everything I despise in a love interst.

@Soul-dragon Cindy Robinson would have been a better replacement for Bridget Hoffman

@EPA Deane Given that XC2 was recorded in the UK that would've been impossible. But they could've chosen better.

Both Bridget and Luci are great in the role so I say it's a tie between both.

Colleen although she tries doesn't sound very robotic at all and more human like.

@RetroPokeFan In terms of KOS-MOS's fourth voice Caitlin Thorburn unfortunately sounds way too flat in the role.

Would have preferred if they had found a way to get Bridget Hoffman back but I'll let them off since she's not in the game for too long.

I really do wonder why the inconsistency in casting knowing that 3 games were being made back to back though?
I would say Bridget Hoffman is the best hands down.

1 Luci, I like that robotic filter she has as well and she is bit less stiff
2 Bridget- calm and robotic but a little too robotic for the slight human edge she has
3 Colleen- Too human sounding

Definitely going with Bridget Hoffman.

Sounds appropriately like a robot/cyborg and she brings a sense of calmness and warmth in the role.

A tie between O'Shaugnessey and Hoffman. If I had to choose one, it would be Hoffman...
