Wagner's Ring Cycle Wagner's Ring Cycle

Comparison of the voice actors who have been the voice of Alberich with sound clips and images.

Number of Comparisons: 2
Franchise: Wagner's Ring Cycle

Alberich is the ruler of the Niebelungen, a race of dwarfs, whose actions serve as the catalyst for the entire Ring Cycle.  After being humiliated by the Rhinemaidens, he renounced love, stole the treasure they were guarding - the Rhinegold - and used it to make a powerful magic Ring to rule his people with an iron fist (why does that sound familiar?).  However, he is forced to give it up by Wotan, King of the Gods, who needs the Ring for his own purposes.  This sets in motion a series of events that will lead to the very downfall of the Gods.

I'm going with David on this one.  He does a great job of sounding tyrannical and overbearing, especially when he's talking to Mime (whom he treats like trash).  Also, it makes me think of how he might have played the elder brother of one of his other famous characters.  Paul is good for the more cowardly version featured in the second game (in scenes that don't correspond to the opera, incidentally), but doesn't come across as power-mad or tyrannical in the same way David does.
