Franchise: Wacky Races
This may be the most star-studded Voice Compare that we have ever had here at BTVA. Five legendary voices have lent their skills to the character of Dick Dastardly. Dastardly is one of the most famous Hanna-Barbera antagonists.
The character is believed by many to be a caricature of Jack Lemmon's, Professor Fate from the movie, The Great Race.
Paul Winchell voiced the character for most of its early incarnations with Jim Cummings taking over in recent years.
In this compare we have Winchell voicing him from the original television series, spin-off of Wacky Races and Cummings voicing him in the video game version of Wacky Races.
In an odd set of circumstances we find a character named Dread Baron appearing on the Hanna-Barbera hit show, Laff-A-Lympics. Now although this is not the same exact character, in name, we all know that this was basically Dick Dastardly in every other way including his sidekick dog (who was also renamed for this series.) Some speculate that they renamed the character due to the fact that Winchell was not available and that John Stephenson was doing the voice. We cannot confirm this though.
And in a BTVA Voice Compare FIRST we have a voice compare from an Amusement Ride from Universal Studios. Many of the Hanna-Barbera legendary voices lent their skills to a ride entitled, 'Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera'. Unlike most of the other characters, in which their original voice actors played the roles, Michael Bell came in to voice Dick Dastardly on this thrill ride.
Finally, the teenage version of Dastardly, from 'Yo Yogi!' has been included to round out the compare and add yet another voice legend, Rob Paulsen.
