Well, Chris Latta definitely brings out Starscream's whiny side on this clip. Later in his voice, he brings out the "Scream" in "StarSCREAM".

And even though he's dead in Beast Wars, Doug Parker brings out the Scream in Starscram's name even more. Especially with lines such as "Air commander Starscream of the Decepticon BATTLE FLEET!" or "Primal, you begin to IRRITATE ME!"

Unlike MODOK, where I get hints of Jar Jar Binks, Tom Kenny works for a more comedic form of Starscream.

Especially since this version of Starscream is much more flanderised to me; and the traits that do get exaggerated with Kenny's Starscream are just highlighted in his clones.

Chris Latta and Steve Blum are both tied for me. Chris defined the original and Steve for the newer material and both gave wicked and cunning performances for this kind of character.

Sam Riegel for me is second since he does a much more darker take of Chris's yet the essence is still there and Scott Whyte follows suit who's an all around perfect successor to Chris.

Tom Kenny, Michael Dobson, Charlie Adler and Frank Todaro all do a very admirable job, was most surprised with Todaro since his seems to be a mix of old and new.

Jack Merluzzi does a good performance, he's fine if nothing special.

Bronco D. Jackson sounds more like an alien as opposed to a Transformer, Doug Parker just sounds like Terrorsaur and Matt Hetherington just sounds too cocky.

I think of All of Starscream's Voices, The One I Gravitate the Most to is Michael Dobson.

All of the Other Voices work for me.... and Yet They Don't.... for reasons I can't work out....

Future VA Suggestion:

Considering the Fact that several Voices here also voiced Cobra Commander, I nominate one of his Best voices...... Marc Thompson. I think a slightly deeper version of his Cobra Commander would be an excellent fit and Thompson has the right Acting Range for the Part of Starscream.

Updated VC thoughts

Christopher Collins is just perfect as Starscream. The intensity, the pitch and the raspiness all create something extremely memorable. Chris definitely had tons of fun in the role, making Screamer a pretty unpredictable adversary. He could be pretty menacing at times and yet he could be comical at some other times.

Scott Whyte is the best successor to Chris. I really love his voice and delivery, plus, he really seems to be having tons of fun. I really wish he could reprise the role.

Steve Blum may sound lower, but he still keeps Chris' essence alive, making him a credible menace at times, yet becoming a comical character at the drop of a hat.

I could say the same about Sam Riegel. He goes for a much more darker sounding version of Chris' take, yet he keeps the essence intact.

I really dig Doug Parker's take. He did a good job channeling Chris, but he's not as successful as Whyte, Blum and Riegel. But it's still a pretty enjoyable performance.

I also enjoyed Matt Hetherington, Michael Dobson, Patrick Hallahan, Daniel Ross, Charlie Adler and Frank Todaro in the role.

Tom Kenny, Bronco D. Jackson and Jack Merluzzi sound pretty off, unfortunately.

I was unsure about Frank Todaro when I first heard him in the trailer, but he's really a great fit, sounding like a mix between Steve Blum and Chris Latta. I think I'll put him somewhere in my top 5.

Frank Todaro is probably my favorite from the Combiner Wars series.

He has this great high and raspy voice that reminds me of Chris Ayres' Frieza. He works well as both the more noble Starscream and the classic version.

He's basically a modern version of Chris Latta. I'd tie him with Michael Dobson.

Chris Latta defined Starscream, while Steve Blum defined the modernized version which is my ideal version. The thing is every VA succeeding Chris directly impersonated him, it'd get kind of old after a while. Sure it fits the name but it's not necessary in every depiction. While Steve was more of an ambitious underling he also had the techno us coward traits that Starscream requires.

Scott Whyte goes up there with myopic ion on Chris's impersonators.

Frank Todaro is a great mix of Chris and Steve, sounding like Steve's raspier voice with a bit of Chris's original take thrown in.

Also fond of Michael Dobso 's as he was my introduction to the character.

Jack Merluzzi is one of the better voices in that dub.

My ideal VA to do a more modern version: Sure he'd basically be Robot Joker but he has all the traits required and he'd act more like a child than just channeling Chris so he'd still fit the name.

So my ranking is

1. Steve/Chris (tied)

2. Frank Todaro

3. Scott Whyte

4. Michael Dobson

5. Tom Kenny

6. Charlie Adler(ROTF)

7. Patrick Hallahan

8. Sam Riegel

9. Doug Parker

10. Jack Merluzzi

Anyone not listed I have no comment on.

Ironically for a character named Starscream I've always preferred the voices where he sounds more quiet and raspier. My top two favourites are both Steve Blum and Michael Dobson. I absolutely loved their portrayals the most.

Yes Steve Blum has the most popular vote but I feel it's mostly justified. I thought he was a standout in Transformers: Prime. His voice would fluctuate between really menacing and low to over the top and manic in an instant which fits with how unpredictable he can be. I also thought he showed off a wide range of emotions from how cruel he can be, to how pompus, arrogant and even unlucky he usually is. Say what you want about the show or character but the performances were mostly top notch. I usually hear Blum's voice for IDW Starscream. Personally he's my favourite Starscream.

Michael Dobson isn't as popular as Steve but he was the Starscream I grew up with and man he was awesome. He much like Blum has had so many different portrayals to work with, hell he's voiced Starscream in the most amount of things, 3 50 episode series. Michael got to play a honourable tragic anti-villain in Armada, he really brought out his depth and struggle which made Starscream really compelling, in Energon (ok I'll skip this since that show rarely did favours) but in Cybertron he finally gets to do a treacherous Starscream again and he was fantastic, he succeeded a lot of the time which you don't get to see often happen. He's a really really close second in the role.

Third favourite would be Chris Latta. I know i'm not the biggest fan of high pitch shrieky voices but Latta made it work. He was hilarious, granted for the most part I don't take him that seriously which is somewhat of an issue, I mean Starscream is often a joke character but he should still have some traces of menace. He did well for his more serious moments however like when he explained his backstory with him and Skyfire. I really enjoyed that sombre tone in his voice and in the 86 movie, he was really cruel especially with "Oh How It Pains Me To Do This". I wish Chris were still with us. I'd love to have seen where else he could have taken Starscream as a character.

Tom Kenny is fourth. Spongebob Squarepants as Starscream...hard to believe yet it worked perfectly. It's not an impression of Chris Latta, it's his own take. He's brilliantly deceptive and hilarious at the same time.

Sam Riegel is my fifth favourite. He basically sounds like an evil version of his Viral from Gurren Lagann and it really fits Starscream well, he's treacherous, arrogant and at a nice mix of high and yet low and raspy.

Charlie Adler would be sixth, it's a shame I put him a bit lower but I did enjoy him, in fact he's one of the few things that the sequels of the Bay movies did better was giving Starscream more screen time and dialogue. The voice he had in the first movie was cool but didn't really fit the character's personality, the sequels he has a higher pitch of voice and fits his more syncophantic depiction here. The voice he had in the ROTF game was pitch shifted too low, and ironically sounds more like Hugo Weaving than Frank Welker's Megatron. lol He is a worthy successor to the late and great Chris Latta.

Scott Whyte's take is promising but he needs more time to work on the role IMO. He sounds a little inconsistent but I'm sure he'll eventually grow into the role.

Doug Parker's take is basically Terrorsaur with more vocal effects, I'm not fond of it and I wish Scott McNeil just did his Chris Latta impression here.

Patrick Hallahan and Jack Merluzzi are fine, nothing special but still fine.

Daniel Ross does a decent Chris Latta impression but you wouldn't know it from here, shame he too sounds generic here.

Bronco Jackson is ok at emulating Charlie Adler but generic and finally Matt Hetherington sounds all wrong for the role, he sounds like a cocky young guy and not Starscream.

BONUS: I've always wanted to see Chris Ayres voice Starscream, something like his Frieza. It's light yet can go at a lower pitch and I feel he could nail both his comedic and menacing moments really well. I could also see Dee Bradley Baker or Liam O'Brien also working really well as Starscream too.

@lnytune1 Thing is, well... his name is Star*scream*. So the screechy voice fits pretty well.

And part of the reason why Starscream was a memorable character to begin with is because he's so pathetic. Yeah, absolutely, Starscream's evil, he has ambition, and is a genuine threat... but he's also a cocky loser who thinks he's bigger than he is. Latta got that down pat. Pretty much every actor since has taken after that.

I'm not really a fan of Prime Starscream because he doesn't have that same quality that made Starscream who he was to begin with. He just seems like he could be any "ambitious underling villain". I'm not faulting Blum for this don't get me wrong, I'm just not really a fan of how most of the Prime characters felt like they wanted to be "serious" and "gritty" and instead just came off as bland.

1) Christopher Collins: Of course, he was the originator of the role, and he still is a lot of fun in it. His performance is becoming pretty underrated, which is sad, because of the intensity and energy it had. No one has ever been able to surpass him (although Scott Whyte is really up there with him). It's a shame that such a talent was taken too soon from us, because he really gave it his all to all the characters he played.

2) Scott Whyte: Another great take. He channels Chris perfectly, but he also manages to add some of his own flare to the role. He hits the same buttons as Chris and he nails the treacherous nature of the character as well as the sarcasm. He really needs to reprise the role, because he just seems to be having as much fun as Chris had when he played the role. Overall, I think he's the only one who has managed to capture the maniacal, psychotic energy that Chris had.

3) Doug Parker: Very good impression of Chris. He captures the quirky essence perfectly and he nails the character's treacherous side.

4) Charlie Adler: Possibly one of my favorite movie performances, Adler manages to add Chris' quirkyness into his performance while also making it his own. His ROTF game performance was also pretty good, although I prefer it without the effects (G1 Starscream DLC), because he makes him sound more somber at times.

5) Steve Blum: One of the most fun performances from a show that really got boring at times. Blum's performance was pretty great, and he did have his fun moments, but unfortunately, he wasn't used to his full potential. He fares better in the DOTM video game, but his Prime performance is just as good.

6) Sam Riegel: His darker and more sinister take of Chris' Screamer really works well for what the Cybertron games were looking for. And he also has his fun moments.

7) Daniel Ross: He's really good. Instead of doing an impression of Chris (which he can do really well as seen in the Scramble City fandubs), he does something unique that is very pleasant to listen to.

8) Patrick Hallahan: He really manages to sound treacherous and snobbish. Despite his limited screentime, he manages to make the most out of it.

9) Matt Hetherington: Kinda reminds me of Riegel. He does have potential.

10) Michael Dobson: Pretty good. He works for the more honorable take of Armada and Energon. A standout from the Unicron Trilogy.

11) Tom Kenny: Decent, but he's a little bit light on the raspiness at times. It needs a little bit more work.

12) Jack Merluzzi: He's kinda forced at times, but he's serviceable.

13) Bronco D. Jackson: Sounds kinda off. The effects don't help either.

1. Michael Dobson - Armada was the show that introduced me to Transformers. I was 15 years old at the time and watched the Finnish dub when it was airing. Later I saw the English dub, and I've had a soft spot for Canadian VAs in general since then.
2. Chris Latta - after getting reasonably into the franchise, I bought the G1 DVDs. I liked the Unicron trilogy Starscreams better than the G1 version, but they wouldn't exist without the original~ XD
3. Doug Parker - sounds so much like Chris it's just incredible. I was surprised when I watched that BW episode.

I also like Daniel Ross's actual Starscream voice, not the one he uses for the game. ...Daniel's great at impersonating the character. Yoink.

1) Michael Dobson: The Best Starscream voice for the best Starscream Incarnation, IMO. He reflected a troubled and conflicted Starscream from Armada who was initially a power-hungry D-con but close to the end of the series was a proponent of the Autobot-Decepticon alliance, even though he gave up his life. On to Energon. Honestly, Starscream being just as loyal to Megatron as either Soundwave or Shockwave would, is an alien concept to me, however Mike did good here as well. Now Cybertron. They really brought back G1 Starscream, especially with the crown, and Mike did very good here too. This is all my opinion, take no offence.

2) Chris Latta: He is the first Starscream voice I ever heard. And he is good at voicing a very ambitious and cowardly Starscream.

3) Doug Parker: Sounds like an excellent voice double for the now-deceased Latta (R.I.P.)

4) Charlie Adler: Good for at least the Movie version of Starscream.
5) Steve Blum: Not sure why he is considered the best (no offence intended), but I suppose he was good for a sly and cunning version of Starscream who seems to be even more deceitful than G1 Starscream.

6) Not much to say about the other VA's.

In conclusion, the VA's I mentioned did a good job for their respective versions of Starscream. But of course, this is all just my honest, non-negative opinion.

P.S.: If anyone likes Steve Blum as the best...Well they all have their own opinions, and I respect that...though I still can't seem to figure out why...

I stumbled across this video some time ago, and I thought for sure I had posted it. It's some stand-up comedy that Latta did in the early '90s.

And at several points he does a psuedo-Commander/Starscream performance. But he also gives a lower, quieter, gravelly voice, reminiscent of Blum's Starscream.

Given how Frank altered his G1 Megatron voice into a more 'calm and growling' voice compared to his 'higher-pitched, screechy' voice, makes me think that Latta could've done the same thing (providing he was still alive) and achieved a similar result to Blum's voice.

@TylerMirage I really wish Chris Latta was still alive. I've only seen a little of the 80's G.I. Joe show, but every time I watch it I just love him as Cobra and he makes the show immensely fun to watch. I think it's one of the most entertaining villain performances I've ever heard, and I would have LOVED to hear him provide a modern take on his characters.

Chris Latta - Even though he just used his Cobra Commander voice, he still did a great job; using it to sound more slimy and pathetic, establishing everything we love and hate about Starscream right from the start.

Doug Parker - A pretty good impression of Latta; he had a decent amount of energy to him.

Jack Merluzzi - No comment.

Michael Dobson - He tends to be a bit more reserved than this clip demonstrates. But either way, I think he did a good job; better than his interpretation of Latta's other signature character, IMO.

Matt Hetherington - He doesn't really sound very, um... "Starscream-ish", but he didn't really have much to work with either.

Patrick Hallahan - It's decent; he fits for Starscream just fine.

Charlie Adler - I prefer his voice when it's not artificially deepened; but either way, it's a great performance, one of my favorites.

Daniel Ross - I like the more sinister tone to it, but I think the voice itself is a bit generic.

Tom Kenny - I like him a lot; he fits the more lighthearted nature of the show very well, but can still be threatening when he needs to be.

Sam Riegel - He fit surprisingly well, IMO, considering a lot of his other roles. Overall, I think he does a good job as this version of Starscream.

Steve Blum - With Blum's raspy voice, he sounds very calm and menacing, but he can definitely bring out the more comical and/or flamboyant nature of Starscream when the need arrives; he's #1, for me.

Bronco Jackson - That's an evil robot voice, alright.

Chris is just so iconic in the role and is still one of the most entertaining cartoon villain performances of all time in my opinion. His whiny raspy voice fit the role so well and whenever he would scream it was one of the most entertaining things to listen to. 9/10

Dobson is a much more reserved and sinister version but it still works very well, and is one of his best performances to me. He wouldn't go as over the top as some others but he knew when to but he still sounded very good whenever he would normally talk with that great sinister rasp. 8/10

Tom was a great choice for TFA and he just nails the role fantastically. He still nails the backstabbing personality of Starscream extremely well, and Toms naturally high voice fits Starscream extremely well. 8.5/10

Charlie in both takes is just fantastic. Again a natural choice to play starscream. The first take is more original, and I would be lying if I said I didn't want to hear more of that voice, but Adlers second voice is still great, and Adler nails both the sinister and cowardly side of Starscream to a T. 8.5/10

Doug works decently well in the role, and does sound pretty close to Latta, and when he does go over the top he does work well, he just wasn't really given all that much material to work with which is very sad I feel. 7/10

Daniel is very reserved in the role, yet it strangely does work well. His more quiet and sinister betrayal works almost on the same level as Dobson does, and it's just another good performance from that game. 7.5/10

Jack sounds like he could work, yet the more I listen to it, there's something that he is missing I just don't know what. It's just an average performance at best nothing really all that great about it. 5/10

Sam is very good in this role, especially in Fall of Cybertron where he had some great lines to go off of and was more over the top compared to WoC. Sam is more reserved and again, like Daniel and Dobson, works well. 7/10

Matt has literally nothing to go off of and it leaves no impact whatsoever so I really have to call it the worst performance here because of that. If he had more I could give it a more fair rating, but since he is unmemorable and sounds really uninterested I have to give it a 1.5/10

Steve....OH GOD STEVE! Steve not only nails the malevolent and trickster side of Starscream, but he also nails the cowardly and backstabbing side of Starscream. His voice and rasp fit the role so well and this is definitely on of Steves best performances in his career IMO. He had some of the best scenes in TFP and stole the scene almost every time he was on screen. 10/10

Bronco is confusingly effected and I don't really understand it. It's not bad per se there's just nothing to it that leaves all that much of an impact. 5/10

Patrick does sound very interesting in the role. His voice fits the personality of Starscream well, and the effects aren't all that distracting I feel, and he does get a couple good lines. It's not fantastic but it is a decent performance. 6.5/10

Difficult to pick so let's narrow it down abit.

Chris Latta - Hands down Latta's best performance and one that became so memorable and made Latta stand out so well as voice actor, I can't say anything bad about him because the man was an incredible talent.

Michael Dobson - A terrible miscast from such a fine actor, It's clear Dobson was not the best choice for this character. Seeing as the character in that trilogy is so different from the character we know and Michael Dobson is trying so hard to do a Chris Latta impression which sounds more like a wonky Burgess Meredith, Not one of Michael Dobson's best performances sadly.

Doug Parker - An impressive stand in for Chris Latta, surprisingly well turned out. Needs to be considered more for future Starscreams.

Charlie Adler - Adler's performance as Starscream is Fantastic, although the character never got that much development so I feel he was wasted.

Daniel Ross - Not a bad Starscream, needs to be considered more and I feel Daniel's tone for the character while it's good needs improvement.

Jack Merluzzi - Kind of a bland performance, nothing special.

Tom Kenny - It works, it works because Tom Kenny's Chris Latta impression is so well executed that the passing of the torch is taken well into effect, Tom Kenny's Starscream ranks up there next to Latta.

Sam Riegel - Abit of an angrier and more aggressive tone to the character, something completely different and it's very good.

Matt Hetherington - Could have been wonderful if the character had more to do say than spout out G1 lines.

Steve Blum - In all honesty it's not my first choice but it's pretty good, especially when you look at the body language of the character and follow Blum's voice to it. A shame the character was such a waste.

Bronco Jackson - Not bad, not good though.

Patrick Hallahan - A Latta hybrid impression that is actually rather good, another voice to be considered for the future.

I gotta go with Chris Latta. He was the original and is what Starscream sounds like to me. Having said that, Steve Blum, Tom Kenny and Charlie Adler all were fantastic. Michael Dobson, Sam Riegel and Doug Parker were pretty good, too.

Man, it's SO close between Latta and Blum, I don't who to choose. Blum talked more slowly, and sounded more sadistic, whereas Latta sounded more pathetic (in a good way). Then again, Blum's Starscream sounded pathetic too, whenever his "ingenious" plan failed or when he got hurt. Who to pick? WHO TO PICK??? That said, Charlie Atler and Sam Riegel were good, too.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm changing my vote to Charlie Adler. Steve is awesome, and he had lots of material to work with, but Charlie just fits slightly better.

Too bad he was drowned out by so many vocal effects most of the time.

said at 9:11 PM on Thu Dec 12 2013
@bumblebeebug He was only drowned out by vocal enhancement in the first film - all two lines of his. "RotF" and "DotM" was nearly all - if not completely all - of Charlie's own voice.

So if by "drowned out by so many vocal effects most of the time" you ACTUALLY mean "had lots of enhancements in the first film but then had way more of his natural performance in the sequels", then yes.
said at 12:11 PM on Mon Dec 23 2013
@TylerMirage I was including the ROTF video game. He had loads of lines in it, but had effects that were similar to the first movie.

I always used the G1 Starscream skin because it lacked most of the vocal effects.

@bumblebeebug Ah, gotcha'. THAT I will definitely agree on. The first time I heard Megs and Starscream share a scene in the "RotF" video game, I actually thought that Megatron's voice was coming from Starscream and Starscream's voice was coming from Megatron. O.o I have no idea why they chose to enhance it beyond recognition, especially when the "RotF" movie was when Adler really nailed his almost-entirely-natural Starscream voice.

Michael is favourite as he makes Starscream sound like the kind of coward he is.

Charlie was better in the 2nd & 3rd films but why did he change his voice in these films but yet again he wasn't so convincing in the 1st film so maybe that's why.

Chris has 2 get my respect for being the 1st voice which isn't easy. Shame he died at 44 years old as he could have been in more stuff.

Tom sounds way too much like a robot version of SpongeBob, it's like that's the only voice he knows how 2 do.

Steve was ok though not the best.

Doug, Patrick, Jack were not bad.

Bronco was way too deep & Daniel sounds like a normal guy so he pretty much sucks.

Sam & Matt: don't have much 2 say about them really.

Tom Kenny nailed the character, making him sound like a total dirty coward and smug snake. He's very close to Chris Latta's voice, which was also perfect. I also love the takes by Michael Dobson, Charles Adler, Jack Merluzzi, Sam Riegel, Patrick Hallahan, and Steve Blum.

I don't care much for the others, the worst being Daniel Ross. He wasn't even TRYING.
said at 10:30 AM on Fri Nov 29 2013
@Galactic_Cyrus Actually, Daniel was originally going to use the original Latta voice, but Carl Weathers (voice director of the game, and of course, best known as Apollo Creed in the Rocky films) wanted something different. The result is what we hear now. Daniel can do a great impression of Latta, he even played Starscream in the Scramble City fandubs.

@Galactic_Cyrus Tom Kenny's performance is the only one I've actually heard in context. I never had much interest towards Transformers until I discovered TFA. Either way, I still think it was great.

Oh yes, one of my most favorite of Transformers. And I'll just come out and say that the reason why is simply because of Steve Blum.

I'm not voting for Blum simply because he's the most recent adaptation, as most people would think (I'm looking right at you, LordofEvil96): I'm voting for Blum because, IMO, he was the first of Starscream's VAs to make the character legitimately terrifying. He's diabolical, twisted, and makes me cringe (in a good way that a villain does) whenever he's around. But I also love him because he was able to retain the pathetic side of the Seeker that we all know and love.....well, most of us, anyway.

Latta is also great and over the top, really kicking in the Con's desire for power, but is just a great big coward (or he just doesn't hink in the process). Alder's I wasn't big on in the first movie, but he got better with the other two. Kenny, while very distracting, was just a happy casting accident. Riegel was okay, but I honestly thought he sound much too forced, seeming more like a imitator of Starscream rather than Starscream himself, which is a problem.

So above all, for me at least, Blum is the most logical choice.

I'm going to be the odd one out and vote for Michael Dobson. He nailed what I think Starscream should sound like, he was ruthless, cold, and when the time called for it in Armada he had some good soft moments. Steve on the other hand I have no clue why everyone loves him. His Starscream voice is just his normal voice only slightly higher. And the fact that he has that many votes goes to show how stupid the prime fanboys can be.
said at 12:17 PM on Fri Aug 16 2013
@LordofEvil96 I respect your opinion on Michael Dobson, but you saying Steve getting this many votes shows how "stupid" Prime fanboys can be (you said it in such a broad way that it could imply anyone voting for Steve is a fanboy) is just a little offensive.

said at 2:31 PM on Thu Oct 3 2013
@Fulgore2005 I know. I didn't mean watch like an episode or two because some might not like what they see. I know some hated the premiere and attacked them for copying the Bayformers version of Bumblebee. I mean if you actually took the time to watch it every episode. I don't agree with some choices on Marvel and DC compares but I understand people who like them since I've seen the performance once or enough.
said at 7:25 PM on Tue Oct 8 2013
@pete I'm not at all into the Transformers franchise, so I haven't watched Prime, nor do I have plans to do so. Maybe if I make a lot of friends who do, or else something Transformers-related piqued my interest, then I suppose I'd sit down for a few episodes. Fulgore2005 brought up a good point as well. Being popular =/= everyone likes it.
said at 8:48 PM on Tue Oct 8 2013
@pokemastanumba1 No offense, but a word of advice you shouldn't agree that we're "stupid" if you haven't even seen the show or performance. If this were a Marvel or DC I might be fighting against the popular vote but here is different. Allow me to quote my own opinion

" Steve was an intelligent and clever villain who could be a competent and ruthless leader that was worse tan Megatron sometimes. He could also hold his own against both teams and come up with his own revenge schemes by himself when he was "banished" from the Decepticons. Despite all this he was still a coward and afraid of Megatron. Michael's was a Decepticon who turned out to actually care about humans and wanted more respect than just to become leader. A shame Energon ruined him. Chris was a coward but a skilled liar and well being coward still had the guts to stand up and even kill Megatron eventually though it backfired of course. Lesson though was he may have been cowardly but don't screw with him either. For this these 3 were the best in this order."

Prime has no flaws in it's performances, the writing is another story, Beast Wards had the best writing but the acting was too corny sometimes to be taken seriously, the Unicron Trilogy had good acting but crappy writing, It should have either ended at Armada or gotten the Beast Wars writing team, Prime is the best of both worlds when it comes to performances IMO. Acting is serious, believable, and well directed. Tons of cliffhangers from season 1 and 2 put a damper on that though. I understand people not liking some of them but Steve was the best of them all. Not counting Peter and Frank reprising their roles that is. Prime is a great way to get into the Transformers franchise. I wasn't a big fan till it came out.
said at 3:58 PM on Wed Oct 9 2013
@pete No offense to you either, but you do realize that what you just posted is an opinion, right? It doesn't matter how you see it, saying that it has "no flaws in it's performances" is purely subjective. You may like the voices, but many other people don't, and the poll results are supposed to reflect that.

If what he's doing is annoying (this is for every1) then just don't reply, just ignore statements he makes about bad things about Steve from now on. I agree that it is annoying to put up with & that Steve is a wonderful voice actor but just take my advise and most of this bashing Steve thing is likely to stop when being left ignored.

For the record, I have seen a few eps of Prime, and I thought it pretty good all-around, voice cast included. As a matter of fact, I *do* enjoy many popular animated productions like JL/U, WatXM, Avengers EMH, and Green Lantern TAS. While it's purely subjective to say that "Prime is the best of both worlds when it comes to performances IMO. Acting is serious, believable, and well directed" that is a very valid and acceptable statement. If you think that Prime is the single greatest thing since sliced bread, that's perfectly fine.

The only thing I dislike is Steve Blum, his fanbase, and their treatment of other VAs. But, that's a completely different and unrelated story.

I could've have put it any better than Ross123. There is *NOTHING* wrong with me giving negative critique on Steve Blum or any of his performances, and if you find any of it to be offensive (even though you really shouldn't), then you can just ignore me.

Don't blame yourself at all; you're completely innocent.

I have to go with Steve Blum. I think that voice works great for making him sound like a slimy, back-stabbing coward without losing all of his intimidating qualities as a villain. In my eyes, this particular voice which he uses often, works better for Starscream than any other time he's used it. This was great casting.

I also like Chris Latta, Sam Riegel, Doug Parker (for doing a great job emulating Chris Latta), and Charlie Adler. The rest aren't very compelling to me.

@PsychicVoiceSpy I watched the available 52 TFP episodes on Netflix, and my gosh, Steve Blum was even better in the role than I could have imagined. I found myself cheering for Starscream, laughing, and just plain loving the character due to his performance.

Whenever I heard Steve use this voice before I always thought "Oh hey, it's Steve Blum's hollow. raspy voice again," but this time both his material and acting were so good I stopped thinking of his voice being Steve Blum's and only heard Starscream. Michael Dobson - Pretty good.
Tom Kenny - Good, but I think they overused Tom in that series. Everyone started sounding like Spongebob.
Charlie Adler - The movies got several things wrong, but one of the things they got right was casting veteran VAs as the robots instead of celebrities (excluding Hugo Weaving and Leonard Nemoy, but they did good). Charlie was perfectly slimy and despicable.
Sam Riegel - WOW! I didn't know he can do that voice. Good job!
Steven Blum - Gotta love him.

@VctrBnsn To be fair, they used the same six voice actors for different roles in TFA, and Tom Kenny's voice is VERY distinctive. He sounds a little like a lower, more evil take on Chris Latta, in my opinion. And his line delivery is good, too!

Years ago, I was suddenly hit by the realization that the Unicorn trilogy existed to make Starscream look good.

With that you can tell who I chose.

Chris Latta (R.I.P.) sure got my vote as the voice of Starscream as well. It was fun watching both Starscream (Chris Latta) and Megatron (Frank Welker) argue at each other about who is the leader of the Decepticons.

Steve Blum wins this. He's just perfect as Starscream as he gives him the sinister and pathetic edge that Starscream has always needed.

Chris Latta originated the role and its a shame he is no longer with us because I'd like to see how he would have done Starscream today.

That being said I also really liked Tom Kenny, Charlie Adler, Michael Dobson and Sam Riegel as Starscream.
said at 6:58 PM on Sun Jul 8 2012
Also, I think that a clip from the game should be added because it's so different.

Chris Latta: He set up Starscream’s iconic voice and persona, but he’s not my favourite.

Michael Dobson: Nice because he resembles Latta’s Screamer, but is also original. His Starscream made Armada-Cybertron watchable.

Tom Kenny: He was both sinister and comical. The best of both Starscream worlds.

Charlie Adler: I personally prefer his game voice more than the movie one; it was almost unrecognizable sometimes. Great depiction none the less.

Doug Parker: Terrific Chris Latta impression, sounds just like him.

Daniel Ross: Ugghhh, I’ve got nothing against him; it was a good villain voice, just…not Starscream.

Jack Merluzzi: Bearable. One of the better voices in Tataki.

Sam Riegel: Good original interpretation. Sounds like Steve Blum.

Matt Hetherington: He’s okay. Not much more to say.

Steve Blum: Really shows how cunning and sneaky Starscream is. Really fills the Latta void alongside Welker and Cullen in Prime.

Bronco Jackson: Kind of like a Charlie Adler impression? Don’t know how to really comment.

My favourite is Tom Kenny, followed by Blum, Latta, Parker and Dobson.

Steve Blum ftw, not just for TF prime but his awesome quote in DOTM game "YOU WILL SUFFER AUTOBOT!" I just thought he really nailed it.

That said, I liked Micheal Dobson, Tom Kenny, Charlie Adler and Sam Riegel too.

I think you could have chosen a better sound clip for Tom Kenny, or just watch TFA to see how hammy he can REALLY be ('You interrupted my SPPEEEEEECH!'), not to mention menacing. That was the thing; Kenny's Starscream was more dangerous and competent than some of the others, if still his same cowardly, hissing, backstabbing self. So my vote goes to Tom Kenny.
said at 11:26 PM on Sat Oct 27 2012

Yo, Tom Kenny, I'm real happy for you and I'mma let you finish, but Steve Blum is the best Starscream of all time! :-P

@TheVengeanceKnight Yes, Blum is really good, too!
said at 9:13 AM on Thu Feb 21 2013
@TheVengeanceKnight Steve Blum is good, I gotta agree with you. However Tom Kenny is my personal favourite because he perfectly emphasises Starscream's characterisation as both dangerous and comical. The world is against him but he isn't going down without a fight. I'm not going to argue as who is "the best of all time", but Kenny is the one who personally appeals to me.
said at 5:47 PM on Thu Feb 21 2013

Just messing around, man. I saw TFA Screamer's "YOU INTERRUPTED MY SPEEEEEEECH!!!" and had to channel my inner Kanye West. :-P

Charlie Adler used a different voice for Starscream in the Revenge of the Fallen game. I like all three of his versions.
said at 10:19 AM on Tue Mar 27 2012
@cartoonvoice In fact, he used the same voice, but without the same nervous tone from the movie. But it was heavily synthesized, sounding almost unrecognizable.

I wasn't a fan of how intimidating Blum's voice was but after seeing an episode he has done Starscream the justice of being intimidating only when he has an advantage and other wise is weak and dependent on others.

you know what... im going to be straight up honest....i hate Chris Latta's protrail of Starscream because he makes starscream sound a little to pathetic.. yes starscream is a bit of a coward.. but he was still a big threat..

my top 5 voices are:

1st.Steven Blum:Gets all aspects dead on with awesome results

2nd.Charlie Adler: same reasons as blum..i mostly blame the writers for giving him close to no dialog

3rd.Michael Dobson: well even tho his deemed a little forced.. i loved his performance.. he gets the aspects of the roll ((and with the help of the script of the anime)) he added a bit of vegeta in his personality ((bonus points for his death scene in Armada... i almost cried with his final speech.. i thought it was deep))

4th.Sam riegel: he gave a good spin to the character by choosing menacing over cowardly... which works

5th.tome kenny: well any one who likes his starscream voice will understand. so i wont bother with the details

There are plenty of good actors here, but I have to give the top prize to Tom Kenny. Not only is he very funny in the role, but he actually manages a good deal of sinister menace, something he's not usually given an opportunity to do.

Second place goes to Steve Blum, if only because he (as well as Frank Welker, Daran Norris, Josh Keaton, and guest stars like Gina Torres, Clancy Brown, and Adam Baldwin) brightens up an otherwise "meh" show whenever he pops up.

My personal favorites are Latta, Kenny, Dobson, and Blum, with Latta in first, Blum in second, and Kenny in a good third... Not to be hateful on Dobson, but I've never actually seen Energon, but I heard when I was little, it was on Cartoon Network.

The other ones I honestly don't have much care about, but did realize that this could've been one of Riegel's weaker performances... Man, you voiced Viral from Gurren Lagann! Merluzzi seems to do a better Starscream, however, than he did Zero from Megaman X7... {shivers}
said at 11:12 PM on Sat Jul 9 2011
@Ninjaman15 He more than made up for his Zero performance as Master Albert the main villain in ZX: Advent, at least in my opinion. Heck, I couldn't even believe it was the same guy that voiced Zero. Sadly they don't have his performance on this site, which I think is his best role.

Latta does a...okay Starscream. It's good but not my favorite.
Dobson was great for portraying Starscream's anger and sinister side. Easily my favorite.
Kenny's was...well a more comical Starscream (though not too comical) but still did reflect a good amount of his hatred for Megatron and a good amount of sinister in it. Not in my top 3 but still good.
In the first Transformer movie I couldn't really hear him so can't him. THough in the second he did a great job.
Parker was.....alright at the best.
Ross did a good job. I like the line about a smoking ruin and he delivered it rather well.
Merluzzi is on the same boat as Parker.
Riegal is my second favorite. Like Dobson he showed Starscream's sinister side and anger. Also had a good amount of comical moments in the game.
I can't really decide on Hetherington, I would need to hear more. Sounds like it has potentional.
Blum's version....I don't really like. It does show Starscream's planning side but it doesn't feel like Starscream. On a related note this version doesn't look like Starscream. This might just be me.
Jacoson sounds a little awkard.
So my top three are:
1. Dobson
2. Adler
3. Riegel

Chris Latta's take on Starscream is not only the original version and iconic... it's simply legendary in the voice acting industry period!

He created the unique characteristics that embody Starscream's voice and personality of being an annoyingly cowardly power hungry sidekick traitor who's obsessed with permanently becoming the leader of the Decepticons. Not that the other voice actors don't have awesome talent... just that it doesn't fit the high standards that Chris Latta set!

Then again, I'm a huge fan who grew up with Latta's voiceover work and I also love to do the voice as well. Check out the link to hear my take on ol' Starscream!

Anyway, Chris gets my vote hands down... although Doug Parker's take gets honorable mention. :D

I grew up with Dobson as Starscream, and Latta's voice - although the stepping stone for what the character would always be - never really did it for me.

My main picks are Adler, Blum, Kenny and Dobson. Kenny does a great "pompous" Starscream, while Blum does a better "scheming" character, and Adler really nails the more subservient aspect of him.

It's a shame that some of the newer VC additions on pages like these probably won't get the "votes" that they deserve*. :( I'm sure that Steve Blum's Starscream - had it been in the VC earlier - would've been right up there with Dobson's or Kenny's.

*I'm not bashing the moderator's methods used for voting, simply commenting on the ill-timed/late addition (in my opinion) of one of the better Starscreams (Blum). :) If it's a newer show, then it obviously will be uploaded AFTER the previous incarnations.
