Drift is a character from the Transformers franchise. Until recently, his only major appearances were in comic form, where he was portrayed as an Autobot who formerly served Megatron under the name "Deadlock". A highly skilled swordsman, he was one of the most feared warriors on Cybertron. But when he looked back at the death and destruction that he had caused, he vowed to hunt down Decepticons and become an honourable Autobot. His next major appearance was in Michael Bay's 2014 summer blockbuster, Transformers: Age of Extinction, and related media.
In the theatrical film, Ken Watanabe lent his voice to Drift. Ken's casting may seem a bit stereotypical, but his Japanese accent fits with the film's portrayal of the character, and his naturally 'soothing' voice helps add to the performance.. On the outside, Drift appears to be a calm Autobot - one who prefers peace over violence - but his samurai skills come out swiftly when he's provoked (even by something very minor, ha ha).
Chris Jai Alex played Drift in the Rise of the Dark Spark video game. Chris' voice is deep, and his dialogue reinforces the "honourable"-aspect of his character. This is a 'bot who does not lose his cool, no matter what.
In the 2015 Robots in Disguise series, Eric Bauza voices Drift. This version appears to be heavily based on the film version, rather than the comic book version, sporting the "samurai-esque" armor, headcrest and facial hair, along with the heavy Asian accent and dialogue centered around concepts such as honour, loyalty, tranquility and all of that jazz.
All three portrayals of the character fit very well and all of the VAs do their respective versions justice. Ken was good, if a bit difficult to understand. Chris had a nice, deep and soothing voice. And Eric kind of combines those aspects into a good mix. Still not really sure who to vote for. (Urge...to vote for Eric...growing...)
