Fozzie Bear

Comparison of the voice actors who have been the voice of Fozzie Bear with sound clips and images.

Number of Comparisons: 5
Franchise: Muppets

Wocka wocka! Fozzie Bear is one of the most prominent supporting characters in Jim Henson's The Muppets franchise. As his name suggests, he is a fuzzy bear. But more important than that, Fozzie is an aspiring comedian with the incredible gift of having no comedic talent. At least, according to his audience. Perpetually upbeat, his best friend, Kermit, can always turn to Fozzie for advice.

For the, more or less, first half of Fozzie's career, Muppeteer Frank Oz performed the blithe bruin. Obviously, Frank set the stage for Fozzie's portrayal, and there's not much more I can say about that, ha ha.

Greg Berg got a brief stint as Fozzie in the mid-80s, playing both the young and standard-aged Fozzie. Greg's portrayal is a little higher-pitched than usual, but is still a very good voice for Fozzie.

For the latter portion of Fozzie's mainstream career, Eric Jacobson took over from Frank Oz (as he did with several other characters, too).  Eric took what Frank created and improved on it. His voice is a tad deeper than Frank's, which is something I enjoy.

In the Muppet Babies series from 2018, known-impressionist Eric Bauza gets behind the wheel (the vocal wheel, that is) to portray Fozzie in his younger days. Eric's baby Fozzie voice is good, but there's just a little something that I'm not quite clicking with. I can't quite place my finger on it, but I'm hearing bits of Dr. Nick and I can't unhear that.

In the end, this is how they rank for me:

1.) Eric Jacobson
2.) Frank Oz
3.) Eric Bauza
4.) Greg Berg

*Special thanks to BTVA'er Ghosty404 for the clips!
