Stellaluna Stellaluna

Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Stellaluna with sound clips and images.
Franchise: Stellaluna

Stellaluna is a fruit bat who is taken in by a family of birds after she is separated from her mother by a predatory owl. She is forbidden by the mother bird from indulging in her natural mannerisms such as hanging upside down and staying awake during the nighttime, and as a result, her bat nature is forgotten. Eventually, she encounters a group of bats, is reunited with her mother and embraces her bat habits and diet. She is inspired to convince her adoptive bird siblings to meet her bat family and dabble in their culture, only to have to rescue them from plummeting aimlessly in the dark of the night. Regardless of their differences, Stellaluna stands firm in her friendship with the birds.

Chiara Zanni

Both actresses get the image of a youthful bat across well, though Barzakov's pace is a tad slower than what would come off as natural. Of course, seeing how she was reading for a kinetic novel, that's to be expected. Zanni's take has a higher, rougher quality to it that certainly adds a more "bat-like" edge to her performance, and the differing medium allows for a more organically-paced delivery. I'm going with Zanni on this one.

Venetta was adorable but Chiara WAS Stellaluna! She gave a warm, soft, heartfelt performance that is instantly loveable! Next to Daring Do from MLP: FIM, I think this is one of her best roles.

They both sound adorable, but Chiara wins. If Venetta had a chance to deliver a more organic performance, then she'd be my pick.

Venetta Barzakov sounds more like she's reading the Stellaluna lines from the book as if reading directly to kids, and makes it sound it a bit more flat-ish. For example, when she says "They're going to crash," she makes it sound more like a minor inconvenience and doesn't sound as concerned for those who are about to crash as she should be, it should sound more like "THEY'RE GOING TO CRASH!!!" (not necessarily yelling at the top of her lungs [thought that could work], but projection could've helped a lot). Yes, the title is part of "Living Books" and is catered more towards young kids, but if more effort was put into it, then I'd be more convinced that it it's a "living book," heck I think even young kids would also be more convinced that way. Venetta Barzakov didn't do a bad job, she did a fine job, she just needed better direction is all.

Chiara Zanni sounds more in character as Stellaluna, so my vote goes to her.
