Fran Brill played Zoe from her introduction in 1993 up until 2015. In fact, Fran even came up with her name. She gives Zoe a distinct scratchy voice that's still full of passion and exuberance.
Jennifer Barnhart took over in 2016, so this is another of those cases where the replacement is recent enough that there's plenty of time to grow into the role over the long-term. Basically with a little push toward a slightly more immature register I think we're there.

Fran is very cute in the role. She got to show off her energy in the role and I like that she was able to still keep it pretty consistent sounding for the many years she worked on the show, even when she was much older.

Jennifer is trying, but she makes the character sound too old I feel. While Zoe could be whiny at times, whenever I've heard Jennifer talk, she always makes Zoe sound very whiny and it's kind of annoying to listen to. Maybe she'll get better over time but as of now she really doesn't do much for me.

Fran Brill's Zoe is amazingly wonderful and hyperactive and kiddy. While I didn't get much enjoyment from her as a kid, I did kinda crack up at her thinking Rocco was an actual pet. She has such wonderful presence.

Jennifer Barnhart tries to capture Fran's take, and it's a noble effort but.. I don't know, she sounds waaaay older. You can tell it's a woman trying to sound young. It's strange, since Fran is older than her and can manage to still do the Zoe voice.

Great Greinke, Jennifer sounds like MarĂa... OoO

I mean, she's definitely got the laugh down, but that speaking voice needs some serious work, especially her cry. (What she does in the clip is not even close to how she usually sounds or acts when she's sad.)

I'm with Fran all the way. She's the classic and originator of the character, completely nailing her energetic, enthusiastic, and sometimes immature nature. I'll admit, the character kind of annoyed me as a kid (mostly because she was so mean to Elmo), but she's definitely grown on me over time, in no small part because of Fran's performance. This is easily her best role.

@CerealBoxHead46 *sounds like Maria. Tried to do the accent on the "I", but VBulletin wasn't having none of that.

Fran Brill sounds really awesome as Zoe. She brings some good energy to the role. There's something about her performance that is very endearing.

Jennifer Barnhart is fairly good all things considered. In time, she'll grow into the role with experience.
