Butch is a member of Team Rocket with his partner Cassidy. There's a recurring gag where everyone he meets has a hard time remembering his name much to his frustration. Some examples are Chuck, Bill, Biff, Hutch and Patch.

In the English dub version of the Pokemon anime by 4Kids Entertainment Butch was originally voiced by Eric Stuart.

When Pokemon USA got the license for the anime the role was recast and now Butch is voiced by Jimmy Zoppi.
