Hello, viewers! Today, we are taking a look at one of MK's most popular characters, Liu Kang!
Unfortunately, while Ed Boon was confirmed to have voiced Liu Kang in Mortal Kombat II, it was mostly hilarious chicken noises
, and therefore not eligible for this comparison.
Randy Hamilton was the first to voice Liu Kang proper in Journey Begins. He's alright and gets down Liu Kang decently, but I don't think he's particularly memorable.
Brian Tochi is probably the best casting you could have done in the 90's for Liu Kang, seeing as he was another martial arts character
. He has a fiery spirit and decent energy, and could have done better in a different direction, I'd just rather Liu Kang's voice not sound so nasally.
Jin Kim, like Randy, doesn't leave an impression. Even more, he sounds bland and as if he's doing a basic table read for his lines.
Tom Choi sounds like what you'd expect from Liu Kang, both alive and a Revenant. Honorable, fierce, energetic, and could crack a good joke once in a while. I wish they got him back for MK11, since he felt like he really was the character.
Matthew Yang King is alright. His delivery reminds me of Tom a bit, but the voice is different enough that it feels really jarring. I have no idea why he was using more of an accent than what the previous games established him sounding, but hey, that's what the developers want.
