Kang the Conqueror

Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Kang the Conqueror with sound clips and images.
Franchise: Marvel Universe

Kang the Conqueror is a Super-Villain from Marvel Comics whom has made his debut in the Avengers 8th Issue back in September of 1964. (While like many other comic book characters his characterization varies in continuity and was even characters such as Rama Tut and Immortus but this VC is focusing on Kang himself.) Kang is a overlord from the 30th Century whom have came back to the past to conquer it for various reasons. One consistent aspect about his abilities is that he fights those whom oppose him with various time based attacks.

Today on the Marvel Universe VC we have a VC for this time-based villain by the name of KANG THE CONQUEROR! We shall begin this with the fact that Kang was in a episode of Avengers United They Stand in which he was voiced by Ken Kramer. Ken's voice for the role is a little light but Ken does do a decent job in trying to make it work though as in this series Kang is much more of a flat out villain in this show in which Ken does a pretty good job with that. Ken's performance does have a good sense of regal arrogance as Ken did do a pretty good job in trying to make Kang sound sinister. Basically while its not one of the best villainous performances I have heard but Ken's performance as Kang in the Avengers UTS series one of the better performances in that show at least.

In the 2010s Avengers Kang appeared for a few episodes this time voiced by Jonathan Adams. Now while in the aforementioned Avengers series Kang was depicted as a more conventional villain while Kang was still a villain in this show he did get a bit more sympathetic depiction in this show though in which Jonathan's performance did suit that fairly well. I did like on how Jonathan's Kang voice is a bit more deep which felt pretty natural for the role as Jonathan's performance did have a commanding and authoritative tone but didn't come off as a bit too over the top. Basically to make a long story short its a good example of Jonathan Adams' work and a good example of the voice work in the show. Overall both are good but I suppose I will go with Jonathan Adams a bit more though.

Ken is a fascinating take I feel. I like how it's much more bombastic and almost has a bit of sophistication to the role, yet still has a bit of a sinister sound to it. I also think the effects put on the voice are pretty unique for this character. For a first go at the character it's not bad, and coming from that show, it's a pretty decent performance.

Jonathan does a great job here. His cold delivery works incredibly well, and I like how they gave the character a bit of an arc through the 1st season rather than make him a villain they used one or two times. Gave him more time to flesh out the character.

Steve is decent, but I feel it's kind of a generic Steve Blum performance, nothing all that amazing or standout about it. I feel like if there was maybe a small vocal effect or something it could've helped it standout a little more (not Darkseid levels but still) but as is it's just an okay performance.

2. Ken Kramer
3. Steve Blum

I'd say for a future VA, I know it's a bit of a typecast but Keith David would work great. Though I could also see someone like Keith Szarabajka, Paul St. Peter, Gregg Berger, or Richard Epcar do it

@skeletonking1234 Listened to Peter Serafinowicz in Lego Marvel 2, and he's a lot of fun. He makes him very bombastic and pompous and is playing it up a lot but still does have a bit of menace to him. He plays him much more like a tyrant king which seems fitting enough. I'd put him in 2nd place.

@skeletonking1234 Is it me, or does Peter's Kang sound a lot like Patrick Stewart? XD
Kinda makes me wonder if Peter would've wound up in the role anyway since no one from the previous LMSH game returned (which, for the record, didn't hamper my experience at all).

And it ALSO kinda makes me want for either Patric or Peter to take up the role of Brainiac (Patrick sounded so good as Locutus of Borg in TNG, and if they can't get him they can get Peter as a soundalike).

Out of all the many, great villain performances in EMH - from Graham McTavish's Loki to Tom Kane's Ultron to RAD's Zemo to Kari Wahlgren's Amora - undoubtedly, perhaps the single greatest was Jonathan Adams as Kang the Conqueror. The weight, menace and power of Adams' delivery, combined with the regal elevation of his speeches and even the moments of sheer emotional desperation and rage, made Kang the single greatest villain on EMH for how compelling yet dangerous he was. It is, for me, comparable to James Earl Jones' Darth Vader for sheer gravitas, I'd dare say even.

Steve Blum is probably my second favourite; Jonathan Adams is a HARD, HARD act to follow. It is similar to a lot of his previous villain roles and the writing of AA... really simplified Kang's character down, but he still delivered his lines with menace and power. Had he gotten a meatier take on Kang, and was directed more along the lines of his Amon performance, I feel that his Kang would have been even BETTER. Ironically, Steve is my ideal Doctor Doom, so it's pretty fun seeing him voice Doom's distant descendant.

And Ken Kramer is... I like his voice, I really like his evil laugh, but I feel he was miscast as Kang the Conqueror. I don't hear "future overlord of worlds", I don't get the vibe of "a great conqueror with a lifetime's worth of triumphs" from him when I listen to him. I'd rank him third place in this.

Definitely throwing my hat in with Jonathan Adams!

CASTING CALL: Peter Mensah's Predaking reminded me many a time of EMH!Kang at points in Beast Hunters; right off the bat, I'd say he has the potential to make a FANTASTIC Kang. Also, Terrence C. Carson would make a great Kang; his Ra's al Ghul would honestly fit Kang far better than it did as Ra's, I'd even say. Same case with Christopher Judge; he was miscast as Magneto, but I feel he could, with a more solemn and regal spin on his Magneto, make for a far better Kang.

@Lion's Edge If he used a similar voice to his Dracula, Douglas Rye would be a solid fit.

Jonathan Adams brings such a menacing, authoritative, and intelligent vibe to his Kang to Conqueror performance: perfect fit, really.

Ken Kramer's pretty good, and he nails the laugh, making him sounding very intimidating as well.

Steve Blum is solid, but yes, his take is not very distinctive or unique here.

Steve sounds great as usual. But I don't think he fits the character, and it sounds too similar to some of his other voices.

Jonathan was friggin' perfect as Kang. He brought so much depth to the role.

Ken Kramer sounds pretty awesome. I love his laugh and he nails the authoritative sound.

Steve Blum fits well. Not much else to say, other than the fact that he sounds cool.

Jonathan Adams was just phenomenal as Kang the Conqueror, he had such an amazing deep, regal and authoritative voice for the role. He was a major factor that made Kang such a compelling villain in the show and not only was one of the breakout VA's from 2010 but also one of the major standouts in Avengers EMH.

Ken Kramer has a nice voice and a great evil laugh but it just doesn't have that same level of sophistication like Adams does, plus why does Kang look like a robot in UTS? You know if he had voiced Ultron instead of John Stocker, it'd be a lot more fitting.

Jonathan Adams wins this one....HANDS DOWN!

BONUS: Jonathan really the standards high as Kang but I think either Peter Mensah or David Oyelowo could make for a fantastic Kang the Conqueror.

Jonathan Adams was really cool as Kang. That deep, authoritative voice really suited the character.

Ken Kramer is pretty good, though I think he sounds a bit old.

Ken Kramer is actually pretty decent here, but he does tend to go over the top a lot. Jonathan Adams is pitch perfect for Kang, was there any doubt he wouldn't get my vote?
