Gobo Fraggle

Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Gobo Fraggle with sound clips and images.
Franchise: Fraggle Rock

Gobo is the main character of Fraggle Rock. A bold explorer with the spirit of his Uncle Travelling Matt, he usually leads the fraggles on their many journeys throughout their rocky home. Of course, he usually gets in scrapes along the way, but he's always got the best intentions.

Fraggle Rock is my favourite Muppet/Henson series, and Gobo is my favourite Jerry Nelson role! He brings such a youthful twinkle to Gobo's go-getting eyes. Townsend doesn't go for necessarily a straight impression, but his always-exuberant voice easily conveys Gobo's optimistic persona just as well. Finally we have John Tartaglia, who hasn't had too many opportunities to play Gobo since Jerry's death, but when he gets the chance manages to put on a bit more of a laidback air.

Jerrys light and charming voice is just as good here as it is in many of his other roles. The energy he provides as well as his very sweet singing voice all make Gobo one of his most memorable characters.

Townsend, while not a straight impression, pretty much matches almost everything else that Jerry has in his performance. He still keeps the character fun, optimistic, and has a great delivery to the character.

John is okay, and I hear hints of Jerry in it, but I'd say my problem is that he sounds very inconsistent. At times it sounds kind of like Jerry and the nit sounds like he's doing something else.

I’m a bit weirded out that Matt Vogel never did Gobo.

For this one, I'd say this is the same case where everyone is really good in this role. Though Jerry Nelson takes it. He brings a great charm to this character. I'm also impressed by Townsend Coleman, while it's not so much an impression, he makes the role his own.

John Tartaglia is a bit inconsistent. I think he needs more opportunities to voice Gobo Fraggle so that he can fine tune the performance.

Alright! Fraggle Rock is probably my favorite Muppet-related property! Great to see one of these VC's go up.

Anyway, I'm going with Jerry on this one. He's the originator, and he showed a ton of emotional range with the character. Like NCZ said, he's one of my fave roles of Jerry's too, right up there with the Count.

Townsend is really good, too. He doesn't sound exactly like Jerry, but in this case, I feel like that's actually better. Gobo is supposed to be a teenager, so a naturally younger sounding voice would make a lot of sense. Townsend actually does manage to capture Jerry's vocal mannerisms nearly perfectly, just doing a slightly different voice. He's actually a very close second for me.

John is more of a miss for me. There's nothing about that voice or performance that makes me think "Gobo Fraggle;" it just sounds very generic to me.
