Number of Comparisons: 2
Franchise: Evangelion

Asuka is one of the principal characters in Evangelion. The pilot of Unit 02, she's as fiery as her red hair and suit would tell you. Asuka has a strong will and a confident mind, but deep down this insistence on proving herself masks a deep insecurity born out of a traumatic childhood and hidden (or not-so-hidden) jealousies.
Asuka is voiced by Tiffany Grant in the original ADV dub of Evangelion. She returned for Funimation's dubs of the Rebuild films, but was replaced by Stephanie McKeon for Studio Khara's 2019 redub on Netflix.

EDITOR'S OPINION

I have loosely similar thoughts on Asuka as I do for Shinji, but I feel personally the gap between Tiffany and Stephanie is a lot narrower. Tiffany is one of the highlights of the original dub, and she still sounded strong in Rebuild, hitting on every beat you'd expect from Asuka. But Stephanie does the same too, and on a meta level her "green" but impassioned qualities as an actor really bring out and complement Asuka's own. I think I slightly prefer Stephanie, but I don't really have any huge complaints about Tiffany either.
