Master Shen is the Crane Hermit, boastful master of the Crane School and Mercenary Tao's older brother. Whilst they both trained at the Mutaito Training Academy, a rivalry quickly grew between Shen and Master Roshi. Master Shen and Mercenary Tao, likewise, began to fight over the smallest things. Eventually, a simple spilled bowl of rice was enough to break the brothers apart. He is the teacher of both Tien Shinhan and Chiaotzu,
Robert gets the first whack at the Crane Hermit in the '89 Harmony Gold dub, giving him a performance that fits the character as an old man, but only showing the personality that the character has in spades. Not a bad voice at all, but the material kinda holds him back.
Chuck Huber voiced Shen in the Funimation dub of Dragon Ball. His performance is no way on earth flat, and gives Shen that cocky boastful personality. The only thing I could say is that like how I think of Roshi, the attempt of an aged voice isn't that convincing.
Clark Robertson voiced Shen in the Blue Water dub of DB, and while he's doing his best to be boastful, the voice sounds like what a Muppet would sound like. Kermit the Bear, or Fozzie Frog. I dunno, it just sounds obnoxious and not in a good way for me.
Johnathan Love voices the Crane Hermit as a young man, and he sounds much better than Clark, pulling off the annoying smug snark greatly. He'd be a way better fit for the older version, but it be how it be.
