The Atom is the name taken by many DC Comics superheroes. The best known is Ray Palmer and he first appeared in Showcase # 34 (Oct. 1961). Ray Palmer is a physicist and a professor at Ivy University. He create a lens that is able to shrink any item he wishes using a mass of white dwarf star. Utilizing the lens, he can shrink himself to a sub-atomic level and became the superhero known as The Atom. As the atom he fought foes such as the Bug-Eyed Bandit and Chronos. Eventually, he became a member of the Justice League. Ryan Choi is the fourth character to take the name "The Atom" and he first appears in DCU: Brave New World (2006). Ryan Choi was also a professor who moved to Ivy Town when Ray Palmer disappeared. He discovered the "bio-belt", which had similar powers as Ray's lens, and soon became the Atom.
