Scott was great for this Gordon, a sense of authority yet with a hint of...on edge I guess you could call it.
Even at the end of the movie, he really sells it.

"Look, I have no regrets for being part of this...campaign of yours. We both want the same results--to see Gotham cleaned of what ails it. It's just...our methods that differ. I've also got no illusions that what you do is vitally necessary...and effective. But I can't sneak around in the shadows like this anymore. That's your path...not mine."

Since 'Gotham' has managed to be to its 3rd Season, I'm going to list my Top 5 Favourite Commissioner Gordon Voices:

5. Jonathan Banks
4. Richard Epcar/ Kurtwood Smith
3. Mitch Pileggi
2. Bryan Cranston
1. Bob Hastings

Future VA Suggestions:

I'm genuinely surprised that Ron Halder has never voiced Commissioner Gordon, since a rougher version of his Don Wei voice from 'Oban Star Racers' would be a great fit for the role.

Mandy Patinkin is also a Shoe in for the part. I can see him voicing Gordon like Saul Berenson, providing a stabilising element for Batman.

I also Recommend William Peterson, John Swasey, Bill Pullman and Paul Eiding.

@Unknownsage13 Kane & Kaye don't do a ton of games. Maybe it didn't pay enough/scheduling issues, or possibly director changes - Amanda Wyatt & especially Epcar arent as high-profile, so to speak, as Colette Sunderman is.

As for Origins, they were all younger versions, so they gave Gordon (& all the other characters IIRC) softer voices.

Ray Wise was acceptable, but there's nothing about his performance that is exceptional or adds anything new to the table.

I think I was too positive on Jonathan Banks. I think his voice works for Jim, but his acting has the feeling of "I'm just doing this for a paycheck". I'm changing my vote to Bob Hastings, because nobody since then has really put their stamp on the character like he did, even if mostly everyone on here was pretty good.

Bryan Cranston would be terrific as Jim in a live action Batman movie though, not gonna lie.

VC thoughts update.

Bob Hastings was just an awesome Gordon. It was really impressive for me to hear radio's Archie Andrews pull off a fantastic Gordon. He sounds experienced and tough yet fatherly and warm. An excellent performance.

Sidney Miller really feels like a prototype version of Hastings' take. Would have loved to hear more of him, 'cause he really sounded like an experienced cop, yet he also sounded caring and concerned.

Jonathan Banks is pretty good. He sounds experienced yet he also sounds like a man who is really worried about his family.

Danny Dark may have been a one-line wonder, but boy, he sounds so hilarious. I really would have loved to hear more of him, 'cause I think he fits the "dumb@ss in need of Batman's help" version of the 60's show perfectly.

Michael J. Gough sounds pretty good. He fits a younger Gordon quite well.

I also enjoyed Gavin Hammon, Jim Meskimen, Neil Ross, Tom Kane, Corey Burton, Gary Cole, Bryan Cranston, David Kaye, David Selby, Chris Cox, Richard Epcar and Ben McKenzie in the role. They all fit the role in their own way.

Mitch Pileggi, John Fitzgerald, Ken Webster, Kurtwood Smith and Bruce Thomas are good, but they really don't leave a big impact on me.

Len Weinrib and Ted Knight are pretty much one-note. However, I'll give Weinrib some props for voice and delivery. I really kinda dig his Joe Bellan-esque voice and his performance is solid. It would have been nicely fitting for a more modern take. Knight does have a somewhat fitting voice, but his delivery is kinda stiff.

Bob Hastings is easily my favourite Gordon. He sounds the most fitting as this experienced honest cop who rose from the ranks.

Kurtwood Smith would be my second favourite, I really liked how his Gordon didn't immediately take a liking to Batman but over time was won over by him. Off all the Gordon since after BTAS, his voice reminds me the most of Bob.

Bryan Cranston is another of my favourite Gordons. He was the definitive standout in Batman Year One and no doubt would be a perfect fit for Gordon in a live-action movie...hopefully someday.

Richard Epcar surprisingly works really well as Gordon. I'd love for him to reprise again in the future.

Mitch Pileggi is a bit gruff and deep sounding but at the same time I think he works really well as Gordon.

David Selby fits really well as an elderly Gordon in The Dark Knight Returns.

Gary Cole and Corey Burton are quite similar in their takes.

Jonathan Banks is maybe a bit too gruff and gravelly for Gordon, his acting isn't as strong as some of the more veteran VA's here but he's not bad at all.

Tom Kane's take is a but too gruff but it's a nice change of pace for Tom doing this kind of voice.

David Kaye is sadly disappointing. He had very little material to work with which is a shame since I think he could have really been excellent.

Michael J. Gough is a bit indistinct and generic but works as a younger version for Kane, Kaye and Banks's Gordons....ironically he's older than Kaye and Kane.

Jim Meskimen is decent but a bit flat sounding.

Chris Cox and Gavin Hammon are way too young sounding for Gordon.

Lennie Weinrib, Bruce Thomas, Ken Webster, Neil Ross and John Fitzgerald are OK but nothing special.

Danny Dark sounds ridiculous in his delivery and voice.

Ted Knight is my least favourite, he sounds way too light and weak for Gordon.

I'm going with the late Bob Hastings on this one, may he rest in peace.

BONUS: I think Garry Chalk and Michael McConnohie would both be fantastic as Gordon.

Jonathan Banks is a good actor, but I think he was too inexperienced at voice acting. My one complaint with the Arkham series is that while the casting is great, the actors can fall flat or have the wrong emotion at times, even with the likes of Kevin Conroy.

It never happens when they cast voice actors that get tonnes of video game work like Nolan North, Troy Baker and an honourable mention goes to Kimberly Brookes, who got her experience at emoting in video games from Mass Effect, which must be like voice acting for five video games at once.

This awkwardness particularly shows up when someone's yelling or trying to sound angry. From their other performances, I know Banks and Conroy can do it really well, it's just video games give you so little to work with if you're not used to acting on your own.

Michael J does well sounding like a cop but he doesn't sound distinct enough for me to think Gordon when he talks. Though he probably can't make it too distinctive because he has to sound like, at that time anyway, a young Tom Kane and David Kaye. And now we have to think of him as a young Jonathan Banks too.

Speaking of Jonathan, when he talks calmly he sounds good but there are lines where he sounds kinda evil to me. I'm also trying to view this on it's own merits but I can't help but feel this is too big of a leap from David Kaye or Tom Kane.

Richard Epcar is pretty good, he has a great gruff and experienced voice but has a pretty good dry sense of humor. Another stand out of the movie.

Jonathan Banks was probably one of the best additions to Arkham Knight's voice cast. He sounds appropriately hardened and experienced as Gotham's aging commissioner and one of Batman's most trusted allies.

Pretty cool we've gotten two of the biggest Breaking Bad stars (Banks and Cranston) as this character when they place such different characters on that show. I enjoy Banks and Bryan Cranston just about equally, but they definitely tie as my favorite.

Another tricky voice compare that's hard to place a clear favorite. Bob, Mitch, Jim(lawl), Bryan, David Kaye, and Kurtwood Smith are all top tier excellent performances.

A shame Michael Gough isn't on here though, as my vote would likely go to him. However, David Kaye would be pitch perfect with more screen time, so here's hoping he reprises his role in Arkham Knight.

I suppose my vote will stay with Bryan Cranston for now on the sole basis of being a pitch perfect casting choice for Gordon in live action, but should Michael Gough be added, or David Kaye reprise his role, one of those two will be my favorites on this compare.

2. Bryan Cranston-An obvious choice but sounds like he'd be better in live action.

3. Tom Kane-Gets the gruff nature of the character down very well.

4. Kurtwood Smith-An inspired choice for Gordon and he fits perfectly.

5. Mitch Pileggi- Another great choice for the commissioner, Excellent.

6. David Kaye- Pretty good, Would like to see him tackle the role again sometime in the future.

7. Corey Burton- Same as Kaye.

8. John Fitzgerald- A unique sounding voice for the character that works well.

9. Bruce Thomas-Solid choice for the character.

10. Neil Ross-definately has potential.

11. David Selby-Not quite what i was expecting for the TDKR version of gordon but it works well enough.

12. Jim Meskimen-Okay, Better as Deadshot

13. Gavin Hammon-Passable Gary Oldman impersonation.

If Michael Gough were here then he would be a close 2nd.

Bob is 3rd because he was the first perfect Gordon voice and also because he's just awesome.

Gordon's VAs before Bob are just plain awful.

If Kurtwood can interrogate villains and threaten them with a foot in the ass he'll get my vote. Chances are that won't happen so unless a Red Foreman approach happens I'm sticking with Bob Hastings.

Although Kurt is just playing a normal role for him, he still really fits. And at least the voice is distinctive. He's one of the better voices.

 5 Shout Outs!
1. Bob Hastings - Just the perfect voice for the comissioner.
2. Corey Burton - Does a rendition similar to Hastings. Would've loved to have heard more of him.
3. David Kaye - Also a perfect fit.
4. Bryan Cranston - Excellent fit for Gordon, but sounds like he'd do better in a live performance than voice acting.
5. Tom Kane - A good take, but a little bit too deep.
6. John Fitzgerald - A rougher rendition that suits the character pretty well.
7. Mitch Pileggi - Inconsistent. His voice is strong and he sounds great in the clip, but in the show he often seemed to give a dull performance and very flat line reads.
8. Neil Ross - Had potential, but his Gordon sounds like a total ******* in the clip!
9. Gavin Hammon - An adequate Gary Oldman imitation, but I can tell the difference.
10. David Selby - He's okay.
11. Everyone else - They bore me.

@Galactic_Cyrus Kurtwood Smith sounds as good as Bob Hastings, Corey Burton, and David Kaye in the role!

They really need to cast Bryan Cranston as Gordon in the live action films. He's perfect for the role, which is exactly why I voted for him. Bob Hastings, Jim Meskimen, Tom Kane, David Kaye, and the soon to be added Kurtwood Smith all do a great job too.

I feel Tom Kane's voice to be very fitting for the role and I don't get why so few people voted for him. Bob Hastings and David Kaye both sound very similar.

Bob, Mitch, Jim, John, Neil, Tom, Bryan, David K, Corey, and David S were all good. But if I had to pick a favorite, it would be Bob.

Bob Hastings. No question. But I'll definitely give Bryan Cranston a close second as there was real depth to his Gordon.

Bryan Cranston is the only one for me. He did something that no one else did, he added depth. You could hear him really think things through and when he had his monologs you could tell he was conflicted. It's a nice change of pace for him.

The others arent bad and I'll probably do a full opinion later but none are all that bad.

Giving this to Bob Hastings, though Mitch Pileggi, Bryan Cranston, Tom Kane, Gary Cole, David Kaye, and Croey Burton are good, too. I just hope Kurtwood Smith is as good in Beware the Batman.

I prefer Gordon to have a distinctive voice, and because of that I'm going with Bob Hastings and David Kaye the most. Mitch Pileggi, Jim Meskimen, John Fitzgerald, Gary Cole, Ken Webster, Bryan Cranston and Corey Burton are also pretty good, but sound like average people. Gavin Hammon and Tom Kane are the lukewarm ones; Gavin for not sounding anything like Gary Oldman, and Tom for sounding too much like himself and most of his other roles (the fact that he played Quincy Sharp in the same game didn't help, either).

@TheVengeanceKnight I honestly don't get the hype for Bryan Cranston. I liked the Year One movie, and liked Cranston's performance, but I think he's overrated. He doesn't sound like someone like Jim Gordon, but more like some average guy.

@TheVengeanceKnight I'm mot a fan of Year One either comic or movie but I think him and most people on here sound more like everyday cops, like real law enforcement officials.

I'm going with Ken Webster as he sounded like a serious law official. It's actually one of the better performances on here if you ask me. Sure it's not best but he got the voice right. He deserves credit for that. Anyway all pre Batman The Animated Series had something off about them. As far as Bob Hastings goes it's clear he's going to win obviously as he's clearly the best and most popular and I try to avoid voting for the popular actor to give the less appreciated ones credit. That being said Gavin Hammon isn't quite the right voice but this was an attempt to sound like Gary Oldman but still wasn't very cop-like. Mitch Pillegi is one of my favorites on here but I'm pretty sure he'll get some votes. Jim Meskimen good voice but again not quite Gordon. John Fitzgerald good for a a cop but it's not quite Gordon. Neil Ross was decent and is pretty accurate but there's something off in the second half of his clip when he says he won't let Barbara become a cop. om Kane another favorite of mine on here but again I'm sure he'll get votes. Gary Cole sounds pretty good from the brief clip of him taking even if it's through a radio. Bryan Cranston is good but he's a younger Gordon. David Kaye is another favorite of mine but he doesn't seem to have much to work with. Lastly Corey Burton is decent ad sounds like a lwa official but again not quite Gordon. So I say Bob Hastings 1st, Ken Webster 2nd, Tom Kane 3rd, David Kaye 4th, Mitch Peleggi 5th, John Fitzgerald 6th, Gary Cole 7Th, Bryan Cranston 8th, Corey Burton 9th, NJim Meskimen 10, Neil Ross 11, and Gavin Hammon at 12th. The older pre Batman The Animated Series are clearly the wort even if they played a campy version of him. It's a shame really because I swear Ted Knight sounded better on the actual cartoon from what I've seen of it.

I've got to give it to Hastings, he's the first voice that come to my head whenever gordon shows up in the comics. Bryan and David did well for what they were in, but they lacked Bob's lasting impact.

@GothamRed I agree. Bob Hastings is the best as no true DCAU fan can't help but hear his voice in the comics. But when David Kaye says "What the"? 'What the hell happened in there"? I almost hear Bob Hastings. A shame Kaye had nothing much to work with.

@ninjinister Cranston rocked the role. To me, it was Gordon's movie, not Batman's. After his performance, I could totally see Cranston as a live action Gordon.
