 2 Shout Outs!
I wasn't super as head-over-heels for the game as much as I thought I would, but I can't deny the English VA and the soundtrack are fanfreakingtastic. I think it's one of the game dubs that actually surpasses the original. The Japanese VO is good (Natsuki Hanae, Ayaka Suwa, and Tatsuhisa Suzuki especially), but man.

Big props to Kira and Kyle. I wasn't very familiar with their pro VA work previously. Well actually, I knew Kira's work on Newgrounds so when I saw it was her I was all, "Really?" But yeah, she did a good job and definitely impressed me. Even though 2B was kind of a fakeout protagonist and didn't end up quite as developed as 9S or even A2 in places, she's come a long way. Good job indeed.

One of the absolute best games of last year. In terms of voice acting and directing both the cast and Wendee Lee (the voice director) really knocked it outta the park.

Never played a Yoko Taro game, but I got this recently and it's something really amazing. I've never seen a game wring emotion out of a credits shooting minigame. It's incredible.

Does it say anywhere what the people in additional voices did? I am going to have to ASSUME that they were singing roles but I am really curious.
said at 6:02 PM on Tue May 9 2017
@Kitsuneaura They did voices for the machines, non-story essential non-yorha androids that would have dialogue, other yorha units, background recorded announcements in areas, stuff like that.

If you're thinking of the background vocals in some of the BGM, then that was done by a choir and group of specially-hired vocalists. Yeah, as mentioned, "additional voices" is pretty much what it says on the tin, just various small roles that weren't significant enough to receive specific credit.

Although, there is one track where robotic voices repeat the phrase "become as gods", and that actually is sampled from the machines' dialogue in a cutscene in the game. It's hard to make out since the machines' voices are so filtered but I think I heard Keith Silverstein in that scene.

Bit of a late response, but they also had the Platinum Games devs also do some of the vocals in Weight of the World's [E]nd of YoRHa version during the chorus (the la la la la la la).

Ooh, I think I noticed some of the developers' names under "vocals" in the credits, I didn't know that was them. That's pretty cool!

Is this a sequel from the past game named Nier , right? Also , sad to see there's no Kaine in here , i loved Laura Bailey on that game.

@Swiftie Muggle

It's set in the same world as Nier 1 and the other Drakengard games but the story is mostly standalone.
said at 7:47 PM on Tue Mar 28 2017
@Swiftie Muggle It takes place thousands of years later, but it doesn't appear to really have any direct connections as far as I've seen. Like there's a couple characters that return with minor roles and that seems to be it.

Darin De Paul dubbing a Joji Nakata role? Now that is very interesting.

@Shaun Ince

The bigger story is him starting to be in Cup of Tea dubs.

@NCZ Indeed

@NCZ I'd agree, I just (& correct me if I'm wrong here) think it's cool to see what sort of...voice-matching? (that's not quite what it is, but kind of) decisions people make for various actors that come into a talent pool. It's kind of like the appeal for me to do prelay casts & comparisons for different regional VAs, if that makes sense. Although with that said, I do agree with you overall.
said at 7:50 PM on Tue Mar 28 2017
@NCZ Do we know any upcoming Cup of Tea dubbed games? Like my first thought is maybe we'll see him in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and/or Fire Emblem Echoes. (atleast I think CoT is who did Xenoblade Chronicles X and Fire Emblem Awakening)
said at 4:20 PM on Fri Mar 10 2017
Btw, is this a unionized dub? I'm assuming yes because Eden Riegel is credited. But just wanted to make sure.

said at 5:30 PM on Fri Mar 10 2017

It isn't, and she isn't. She's under Claudia Lenz.
said at 12:11 PM on Sat Mar 11 2017
@NCZ ah k! Thanks for clarifying
said at 11:40 PM on Tue Sep 19 2017
@NCZ Why is she the only one using a pseudonym?
Shaun Ince
said at 12:10 AM on Wed Sep 20 2017
@Heroshii15 Beats me. Though the answer to that question belongs to the actor using the pseudonym to begin with.
said at 2:44 AM on Wed Sep 20 2017
@Heroshii15 A few of the others also used pseudonyms if I remember the credits right.
Shaun Ince
said at 3:32 AM on Wed Sep 20 2017
@BlueHeracross Julianne Alexander is the other actress that used a pseudonym.
NCZ (Admin)
said at 2:59 PM on Wed Sep 20 2017

She's not the only one (also David Keefir, Connor Kelly, Russell Nash) and actors use pseudonyms for a variety of reasons. Eden is almost always credited as Claudia Lenz or uncredited in non-union dubs possibly because she has a history of live-action acting and wants to keep her non-union voiceover work on the down-low/separate from that.

Great that Alexis Tipton IS getting more LA dub work

@numbuh34 and she definitely isn't her usual typecast in this game.

Cherami Leigh has been in EVERYTHNG lately! Same with Robbie Raymond. And people say Johnny yong bosch was overused. He's a bit underused too me.
said at 1:26 PM on Thu Mar 2 2017
@DeathGod46 Well, Bosch was overused in the 00's and early 10's, and even has some lead roles in Yokai Watch, Iron Blood Orphans, and Doraemon. I guess it's just a phase.
said at 2:58 PM on Mon Mar 27 2017
@doodlebugfour Can't argue with that. Bryce was also overused, but his era is over. Maybe they got tired of people complaining about him. I'm a big JYB fan, so I want him to be in everything lol
said at 8:04 PM on Sat Jun 3 2017
@DeathGod46 She's in everything anime related. But this is one of her few games she's in (that's any good). And she does an amazing job here, not like any of her other roles.

Huh, so the site also lists additional voices now. Anyway, pretty cool cast, I'm happy to see some of the guys from Fire Emblem Heroes here. Definitely wasn't expecting Darin de Paul.

Yeah, it's a new feature. It'll be fun to go back through everything to bring them up to snuff.

Nice job, Wendee Lee. A good mix of dub usual suspects (mostly the additional voices), relative newcomers, some who don't dub that often, and some nice surprises (Darin de Paul and more Julianne Alexander). Solid LA cast.

I was probably gonna get this anyway (Platinum's good games are really dang good), but this cast list is a nice bonus.

said at 9:37 AM on Thu Feb 23 2017

Yeah, despite some concerns I've had at some points, Cup of Tea's stuff since then has shown they've still got it, so I'm pretty happy to say my fears were unfounded. The additional voices list is practically as impressive as the actual main cast and there's no way I can say no to more Darin De Paul, especially in something unexpected like this.
said at 10:38 AM on Thu Feb 23 2017

I just saw Darin de Paul has a Tales of Berseria credit too! I first heard him in Overwatch but I really can't say no to more of him, so hopefully he'll come into a lot of Cup of Tea productions in the future. I find he's rather versatile.
said at 12:50 AM on Mon Feb 27 2017
@NCZ Seems a lot of people in the industry drop by this site. Maybe they saw your complaints and wanted to put you in your place! Lol. Jk, but glad to see you've been pleasantly surprised. You seemed to have been getting burnt out.

Yeah, there was a point in time where I was kinda disillusioned with the state of modern non-union dubs and I think I left a lot of cynical (and probably insufferable if I actually looked at them again) comments to that effect around here. I still have my issues and I still feel like in general standards have changed a lot since the 2000s or even early 2010s, but I guess I've kinda mellowed on it. The stuff that actually counts and what I'm interested in generally tends to hit, at least. The venting probably helped but there was probably also the fact that complaining about stuff on the internet is just a lame thing to do at the end of the day and beyond the occasional lapse here and there my philosophy's always been that it's better to just enjoy stuff, look on the upside of things, and take it easy and in stride. Even aside from our apparently growing awareness within VO circles it's just important in general to be mindful of what you say and try to find the balance between being honest but also not a punk idiot.

The specific thing you're talking about was really, REALLY dumb of me and, legitimately, I still feel kind of awful about it. But honestly it was probably kind of the "what the f*** am I doing?" self-reflective wakeup call I needed at that point in time. Also I'm just glad he was fairly courteous about the whole thing. So in a weird way I guess I'm thankful for that. They say you have to have a thick skin to be an actor so yeah, that's why the dude's a pro and I'm sitting here on the internet.
said at 10:14 PM on Thu Mar 2 2017
@NCZ Oh holy cow dude. Didn't mean to guilt trip ya! Lol. And wasn't referencing any event in particular. Chin up my friend, you're human. Only mistakes you make are the ones you don't learn from. I'm sure other people on this site have said worse about VAs/directors/etc.

Ah, don't worry about it. It's not like a HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN TO MEEEEEEE level of despair and anguish/self-serious type thing. It's just like, going back and going "man, that happened, didn't it". At the end of the day it's just a funny story and it was all sorted out and ended amicably. No reason to dwell on stuff like that. I feel pretty fortunate to say that the vast majority of our interactions with pro VAs has been positive, even though I never would've expected any of that stuff would happen when I first got here. It's cool. Crazy, but cool.
said at 1:08 PM on Wed Mar 15 2017
@NCZ You were hardly the most insufferable of them people so I wouldn't worry about it
said at 11:32 PM on Wed Feb 22 2017
Wow, I don't know many of these names, guess I've fallen behind on newer VA's since I stopped watching most anime's.

Glad to see people like Cherami and DC in this though.

Anyone know if Eden Riegel played Devola and Popola in the first game? I know it says she did, but what's the source?
said at 11:48 PM on Wed Feb 22 2017
@BrookHavenGaming I don't think there were any English credits for the first one. Probably they identified Eden cuz she has one of those voices that is just very distinct and recognizable.

And yeah. There's several VAs in this that just started appearing (or started getting mainstream attention) within like last 5 years.

@Unknownsage13 tbh there are umpteen different Marvel (& DC!) characters I want to hear him play. Guy's got loads of range for having barely 20~ roles.

Playing demo right now. Holy cow 2B and 9S sound super familiar but I can't put my finger on where I recognize them from. (At times 2B reminds me of Erica Mendez but I don' think that's who it is) Hopefully we don't need to wait too long for the cast list.
said at 12:16 PM on Fri Dec 23 2016
@Unknownsage13 though also at times she reminds me of Cherami Leigh and CristinaVee.

@Unknownsage13 She actually sounded like Renee Hewitt to me. I HIGHLY doubt it's her, but I swear it sounded just like her at times.

@Unknownsage13 Not yet. But between that and the Gravity Rush 2 demo being out at the same time, it's a crazy good time to be alive. Both two of my top most-anticipated 2017 games.

@NCZ and both coming out in Q1. Woot. Good time to be a gamer if a fan of Japanese games.
