This game does look good, but I am a bit curious and want to ask the people in the comments something...

Star Wars and Marvel worlds in KH3? Yes, or no? Why, or why not?

All opinions are welcome.

I'm so happy that this is coming to the XBox one as well. Meaning this will be my first Kingdom Hearts game. I'm so happy!

@Soul-dragon Ehhhhh

Just instantly jumping into the series like this would NOT be a very good idea, less you like being confused. :P

@KhFan-D98 Who cares?
said at 9:55 AM on Thu Jun 14 2018
@Soul-dragon Alright then. Suit yourself, I suppose! I'm almost willing to bet the game's gonna be wonderfully enjoyable either way.

@KhFan-D98 Indeed. It looks gorgeous thus far and given that’s in been on devolpement since 2013 and I’m thrilled to see it all pay off in the end.
said at 12:38 PM on Thu Jun 14 2018
@Soul-dragon Yeah I agree. I getting tired of these KH fans keep shoving "play all games in order" in to everyone face lately. I mean yeah there will be confused on the story and FF lore to this series. but I can see people wanting play this for the Disney and Pixar characters and setting also how awesome the game play looks. so what? just a video game at the end of the day.
said at 12:41 PM on Thu Jun 14 2018
@MadDude657 It’s not hard to see why people think that though. Many games go in chronical order and have certain events you must experience first to understand. I would play the others but I’m dead broke at the moment.
said at 12:46 PM on Thu Jun 14 2018
@Soul-dragon which is not a bad thing. for letting people know and giving a heads up. but jeez some KH fans need to chill out when someone says I want to play KINGDOM HEARTS III first.
said at 1:07 PM on Thu Jun 14 2018
@MadDude657 Yeahhhh, sorry about that... I just don't want people to get really confused, is all. Not trying to force anything, promise.
said at 1:22 PM on Thu Jun 14 2018
@KhFan-D98 Oh No. you cool. you even cooler then the people was actually talking about. in all honestly I hope most newcomer who going to try KH3 first at least know what they getting into first.
said at 4:58 PM on Fri Jun 15 2018
@KhFan-D98 @MadDude657 People can always just watch a summary or whatever on YouTube to get a "brief" understanding of the series overall plot. That's what I suggest if you're not going to play the other games beforehand :D

Man, I'm so excited for Kingdom Hearts III! The more that gets revealed, the more anxious I am to get a hold of the game!

I just wish Jan 2019 would come faster...

@FF91 Same here! I been waiting for 6 years since it was first announced in 2013, now that we finally got a release date I'm really want to get my hands on it!!

@KhFan-D98 ALSO, I'm guessing Jared Butler is reprising Jack Sparrow this time around.
said at 8:26 PM on Mon Jun 11 2018
@KhFan-D98 I always thought, if they ever brought POTC back into the series, Jared would be the one they'd get for Jack instead of James in the event that Johnny couldn't come back.

I always hoped, but never thought they'd actually do it. This series, I tell ya...
said at 7:28 AM on Tue Jun 12 2018
@immblueversion Wonder if Crispin Freeman, Eliza Jane Schneider and Brian George to reprise their voices as Will Turner, Elizabeth Swan, Captain Barbossa? And I'm sure Julianne Buescher and Kevin McNally or Steve Blum will voice Tia Dalma and Joshamee Gibbs since he was voiced by Steve Blum in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Legend of Jack Sparrow
said at 4:46 PM on Mon Jun 11 2018
Still no English voice clips from Tangled. Even though Zachary Levi said he hasn't been contacted yet, I suppose this means there's still a chance for him and Mandy Moore to come in later.

I'm kind of disconcerted that Hayden Panettiere said she wasn't contacted to return yet, either. From the tone of her tweet, it seems she'd be eager to return. Not that Alyson Stoner is a bad replacement, but to have the whole voice trio for Sora, Riku, and Kairi back would be a treat.
said at 7:25 PM on Mon Jun 11 2018
@immblueversion Looks like I may have spoken too soon. New trailer came, and it sounds like Alyson to me. A bit disappointed about that, but she's been far from a bad replacement.
said at 5:02 PM on Sun Jun 10 2018
Just rewatched te E3 trailer. Ansem doesn't sound like Richard Epcar. Not sure if it's Billy Zane either, the line kind of sounded like Kyle Hebert if I'm being honest.

I called it! Now Carlos Alazraqui is part of the KH francise since he's the official videogame and Disneyland/world theme park voice actor for Mike Wazowski. I even asked him in the Savannah comic con that now that Monsters Inc is annouced as a playable world and he's he's the official videogame voice actor for Mike Wazowski that they will defintly cast him as Mike and responded "Could be possible" and he made it!

Okay, some cast predictions...

Mandy Moore - Rapunzel
Zachary Levi - Flynn Rider

John Ratzenberger - Hamm
Wallace Shawn - Rex
Jim Hanks - Woody
Stephen Stanton - Buzz Lightyear
R. Lee Ermey - Sarge

Erik Scott Kimerer - Master Eraqus (Young)

@VocalChameleon well one of those predictions isn't gonna happen now I guess

@CaptainGrumpy Corey Burton or Fred Tatasciore could work nicely for doing an Impression of R. Lee Ermey.

@VocalChameleon Pretty Sure Mike MacRae is voicing Buzz Lightyear in the game according to the cutscenes that were shown in the Demo.
said at 10:12 PM on Tue May 29 2018
@VocalChameleon In that E3 2015 cutscene, it sounds like Drake Bell is voicing Young Eraqus.

 1 Shout Out!
Listening to the footage from the other day, I'm pretty sure Haley Joel Osmont and Ben Diskin are returning as Sora and Young Xehanort (unless I'm thinking of the wrong character)

Same goes to Tim Allen, Wallace Shawn, and John Ratzenburger as Buzz, Rex, and Hamm respectively. Not 100% sure about Woody though
said at 6:35 PM on Mon May 21 2018
@HyperVoiceActing Honestly, I just figured they'd get Jim Hanks (Tom Hanks' brother) to voice Woody and Stephen Stanton as Buzz Lightyear.
said at 4:22 AM on Thu May 24 2018
@HyperVoiceActing and @VocalChameleon It's actually Mike MacRae who is voicing Buzz Lightyear in the game according to the cutscenes that were shown in the Demo.

He's been the voice of Buzz in the Toy Story 3 game, Kinect Disneyland Adventures and the Disney INFINITY series. On top of that he has been a very good Tim Allen Impersonator during his stand-up comedy shows.
said at 2:04 PM on Mon May 21 2018
As usual looks like we're getting soundalikes for the Pixar cast but I'm not complaining since Carlos Alazraqui's a decent voice for Mike.

Now Christopher Swindle's take is something I'm really interested on since I was expecting Joel McCrary.

@Ghosty404 They announced it at the beginning of the console generation (or at least the home console announcements?)...and it's near the end of of this one now.

...tbh at this point I feel like they should just port it to the PS5. I know it's not that feasible but a possible remaster/special edition would totally benefit from more powerful hardware (although I suppose the Pro &/or XBO X should be enough?)

I'll be amazed if this game actually comes out in 2018 (not that I mind waiting), and our first Pixar world in KH should open the floodgates to some interesting new places (I'd go nuts for an Inside Out world).

said at 10:16 AM on Sun Jul 16 2017

Honestly, for me there's no reason to doubt it at this time, looking at all the facts.

2016 - FFXV
2017 - Dragon Quest XI
2018 - KHIII

Makes a nice three years back-to-back like that. They've had plenty of development time (almost 5 years by then) and doing it in Unreal Engine 4 should have gone a long way. FFXV had its release year of 2016 announced around this time, and only actually got delayed by just two months from September to November. Definitely see KHIII being SE's big fall game next year.

Yeah, Toy Story! I'm guessing Woody will be voiced by Jim Hanks, Tom Hanks' brother, since usually voices Woody in the video games. Don't know about Buzz, though.
said at 6:17 PM on Tue Feb 20 2018
@Cartoonguy133 It feels likely that Buzz might be voiced by Mike MacRae, since he's the one who's usually substituted for Tim Allen in recent games like the Toy Story 3 adaptation and Disney Infinity.

if this sounds a bit harsh, I'm apologizing early right now. but I, for one, DO NOT want to see Star Wars worlds in this KH installment. I think it will make things very awkward and so on, don't get me wrong, I love Star Wars. I'm a huge fan, but they have no business being in a game like this. other than that, I am VERY excited for this game!!! I love the Kingdom Hearts series. even if I only own the first two games.

@IceElvenPrincess Pretty much with you there.

@SteelEthlan at least you agree with me and pretty much see eye to eye. :)
said at 11:06 AM on Sun Sep 13 2015
@IceElvenPrincess I'm not necessarily asking for Star Wars (or Marvel) to be in this series, but haven't the usual crossover rules been bent in light of Dream Drop Distance's inclusion of characters from The World Ends With You?
NCZ (Admin)
said at 11:13 AM on Sun Sep 13 2015
@Scrappy-Fan92 The difference is that The World Ends With You is an original property created by Square Enix and Tetsuya Nomura.

The problem with Star Wars, Marvel, and Muppets, etc. is that they weren't created by Disney, simply acquired by them through buyouts. For that and various other reasons (tone, aesthetics, scope, etc), they don't fit into KH as seamlessly as Disney's original works do.

A better analogue to the TWEWY situation would be the potential use of Pixar properties.
said at 11:18 AM on Sun Sep 13 2015
@NCZ But Pixar was acquired by Disney also. I think they're closer to most Eidos properties than The World End With You.
NCZ (Admin)
said at 11:25 AM on Sun Sep 13 2015
@Scrappy-Fan92 Yes, that's true. But even though they were only bought out by Disney later they always had a really close relationship and were generally homogenous in most people's eyes anyway. Woody and Buzz were supposed to be a summon in either I or II also (can't remember which) so the thought of working with Pixar elements is something that the KH developers don't seem to have a problem with.

Man, Eidos stuff would fit in even LESS than Marvel or Star Wars. Imagine having Agent 47, Kain, or Lara Croft running around with Donald and Goofy. Actually now I kind of want it...
said at 9:20 PM on Sun Sep 13 2015
@Scrappy-Fan92 I know what you're saying. and I've only seen little pieces of Dream Drop Distance. so I'm not familiar with that game.

said at 12:59 PM on Wed May 18 2016
@NCZ If Agent 47 were a summon I would flip out and by the game three times.

@NCZ I agree with you there, but imagine Sora's Keyblade becoming a lightsaber. That would be sweet.

@The Ear of One Square's been kicking ass and taking names lately so I actually feel pretty confident this and FFXV will actually release in 2016 (though at the *absolute latest* I can see one getting pushed to early 2017). The switch to Unreal Engine 4 has been a big help in getting this game out the door I think.

but with a current remake on the way, it is as you say. kicking ass.
I hope we see more Square characters in this game.
said at 3:39 PM on Thu Jul 30 2015
@NCZ Who knows, with the American D23 expo coming up next month, along with the KH fan event at the Japan D23 this November, I could see more information on KH3 with the game coming out in the US around Q2/Q3 2016. Besides, Nomura is no longer involved with Final Fantasy XV after stepping down in September of 2014, so FFXV is not going to hinder KH3's process and release.
NCZ (Admin)
said at 3:55 PM on Thu Jul 30 2015
@DisneyAnimefan1995 Exactly. XV and KHIII have been coming along very smoothly, and the huge marketing blitz that began at last year's TGS for the former coupled with the Duscae demo have me optimistic that SE want it out soon to prevent people from losing interest. And they've already said that KHIII has an internally-decided release date and they're waiting for an ideal time to reveal it. I think D23 would be the perfect time to do that, and there will be announcements related to XV at Gamescom and/or TGS.

My prediction: KHIII is the first half of 2016 (maybe September at the absolute latest) and FFXV is the big November/December holiday game.

With Dragon Quest XI also expected to launch then, 2016 will be glorious for Squenix if they can get all three of their top RPG series out the door in the same year.

I'm debating whether or not to this game now since Leonard Nimoy sadly passed away recently. Like I mentioned on his page, I hope he got his lines recorded before his passing. But this is what happens when a game takes way too long to be made.

I probably buy it regardless but it'll probably be my last game in the series. I cannot continue to stand by a series that has too many spinoffs that come on a completely different system (which I may/may not own) almost every time and takes too long for its next main game to be released.

Anyway, the game is rumoured to be getting an online mode according to this article down below and is also rumoured to be coming out in 2016, hopefully.

Which is like what, 11 years after KH2 was released in Japan.
NCZ (Admin)
said at 11:41 AM on Sun Mar 1 2015
@Ross123 Bear in mind that makes stuff up all the time. It's not exactly credible.

Xehanort's VAs in both English and Japanese have passed away, unfortunately. And given that the game is apparently not particularly far into development, I doubt they recorded anything. :|

Maybe as an injoke they could get Jonathan Frakes or some other actor from Star Trek: The Next Generation.
said at 11:55 AM on Sun Mar 1 2015
@NCZ I don't much about because I don't normally check out their website. So thanks for that tip, much appreciated.

Also, it's just that Bill Farmer said that voice work had already been recorded. Although looking at the comment below, it seems you responded to it with an article which I assume is proving Bill saying such a thing wrong.
NCZ (Admin)
said at 2:09 PM on Sun Mar 1 2015
@Ross123 Yeah, Bill Farmer is apparently thinking of something else. Likely either the Re:Coded scenes in 2.5 Remix, or maybe new stuff for a KH3D remaster which is sometimes speculated to be happening (take that with a grain of salt though, it's all speculation). Voice dubbing would likely happen late in development once the story and cutscenes are finalized. All of the English dubs of KH games have been done relatively close to the English release dates rather than early in development.
said at 2:10 PM on Sun Mar 1 2015
@NCZ I haven't heard anything about KH 3D possibly being ported over to the PS3/PS4. This is new news to me. But like you just said, speculation.

Well what you've told me makes perfect sense. But seriously though, most of us are getting tired of waiting at this point which makes it harder to take any news with a pinch of salt.
said at 1:55 AM on Mon Jul 6 2015
@NCZ You are correct. I once asked Quinton Flynn is he had any details about KH3 and he basically told me that [voice] actors are the last to be put on projects and the last to know any critical information. It's possibly that even the Japanese dub hasn't really been delved into yet, though I do hope Chikao Ohtsuka had his parts done (though I doubt it). I have no hope of Nimoy being in it.
said at 2:10 AM on Mon Jul 6 2015
@NCZ Just had a quick chat with Quinton to confirm: Neither he nor James Patrick Stuart have been contacted for the role as of yet.

He added "We American actors of the last to know. They have to finish all of their production in Japan first before they send it over here."
NCZ (Admin)
said at 1:09 PM on Mon Jul 6 2015
@Xiro I got the impression that the dialogue we heard for Xehanort and Eraqus in the trailer was recorded specifically for that trailer. The in-game grunts from Sora, Donald, and Goofy were reused from previous games, so I don't think VO recording is too far along if at all.

And of course, even if it was already in the process, due to NDAs most of the voice actors probably wouldn't be able to announce their roles ahead of time anyway.
said at 11:34 PM on Sat Apr 22 2017
@Ross123 Nimoy nailed the character. Xehanort was evil and ruthless, but he did such a great job selling his character's motives in a way that made the actions of other characters (like Terra) believable. He made Xehanort sound wise... even though the character was working towards darker motives that were steeped in anything but conventional wisdom.

Whoever steps up to the plate has some big shoes to fill simply from an acting perspective.

So did you guys know that Kingdom Hearts III on Unreal Engine 4? I had yet to discover this in previous news about switching from Luminous Engine (Which it was currently used for Final Fantasy XV) to Unreal Engine 4. (Epic Games' 4th engine)

And yeah I can seriously bet that they may want to test this engine at first before showing this at the demo because I can severely sense that these team are using the blueprints for the "Kingdom Shader" artstyle since it lets you make this project with the wide variety of artstyle.

But I'm getting on and off topic there.

I can't believe nobody's talked about this yet. According to Bill Farmer he finished recording lines for Goofy in KH3, and said the game is coming this year.

Of course, Square-Enix came out and said there's no release date yet, but its interesting to hear that apparently the voice recordings are going on for the game
said at 11:10 AM on Thu Jul 31 2014
BAD NEWS: Leonard Nimoy got diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in February this year. I just recently found this out while doing a search for something.

Anyway, my point being is that I don't think he'll be able to voice Master Xehanort in KH3. His illness could likely effect his voice. But I'm no expert so I could be wrong. Some1 will have to correct me on that I think.

If they are going to include worlds based on Marvel properties (which I doubt) I think that Asgard would work best. You could have Thor as party member, Keyblade based on Mjolnir, Loki as main boss, bunch of Asgardians (like Lady Sif and Warriors Three, for example) as mini-bosses in Coliseum and Destroyer Armor (or heck, maybe even Surtur if they want to be really crazy) as super hard Sephiroth-level Bonus-Boss.

@The Doctor How about the world that kingdom hearts that was made and published by Disney themselves and there is no way in heck that marvel and Star Wars world would be in KHIII because marvel has superheroes,semi-superheroes,villains and such cause it would never fit.

And Star Wars one, Rather too dark to go and we already had space themed worlds so there is no point bring this here neither the planet one.

@SteelEthlan While I doubt that we will see Marvel or Star Wars in KH, I don't think that it will be matter of if they fit. Had you asked me before the release of KH2 if Pirates of the Caribbean would fit to Kingdom Hearts, I would have said no. And now look what happen.

Besides, Disney is working on animated movie called Big Hero 6 that is based on Marvel comic. That could have a shot of having world based around it in KH3.
said at 6:49 AM on Mon Jun 2 2014
@The Doctor True but to be fair Pirates of the Caribbean is a live action film made by Disney too they had the rights to place this in KH2 if you already knew that. So it still goes just fine even though it was set in the night

And the new Disney movie called Big Hero 6? Yeah this may work as being world based that May set in KH3.

@SteelEthlan Then again it's gonna take a long work for the movie to finish at times.

@GothamRed That too, but I was mainly referring to the "original" Disney TV series rather than ones based on pre-existing characters like DuckTales, Goof Troop, Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers, etc. But Scrooge, Huey, Dewey, and Louie have been represented in the series so far, so there's that.

@NCZ Also the Avengers would be pretty OP in Kingdom Hearts. Nothing against Sora but compared to Ironman, Captain America, Hulk, or even Spiderman I'd feel pretty underwhelmed I was playing the guy with the key.
One of them might work as summons, maybe...

@Music Meister Now I want to see this game ends with Hulk thrashing Xehenort around like Loki.

@Music Meister If I remember correctly, wasn't this guy with the key slicing large buildings apart and shooting them at the last boss in KH2? It's been a long time since I've played it, but I remember Sora being capable of some pretty crazy #$!@ by that point.

@PsychicVoiceSpy I mean from a player observation, if I'm pressing X and whacking people with my Key blade and I see Ironman shooting lasers, or Cap throwing his shield and it boucing around hitting enemies or Hawkeye shooting different arrows or Hulk just being Hulk, I'd be like "Oh...guess I'll just keep whacking these guys..."
THough if there were Easter eggs like unlockable costumes based on Marvel or Thor's Hammer being unlocked for Donald and Cap's shield for Goofy or a summon or two from Marvel heroes I'd be excited for that.

@Music Meister Here's the answer: It will never happen cause there won't be any marvel nor star wars based worlds cause they were made by different companies let's all focus to the movies that were made by disney which had a memorable plots and such with the shortness.

Finally the story of Kingdom Hearts can contune
said at 3:15 PM on Mon Feb 10 2014
@Music Meister I was reading about you getting confused with the KH story.

If you have a PS3 then get KH 1.5 & wait until summer for KH 2.5. 1.5 includes KH, Chain of Memories & turned 358/2 Days into a movie. 2.5 will include KH2, Birth By Sleep & turns Coded into a movie.

Or if you still have the 2 main games on PS2 then read the game manual or look up the story the KH website that tells you almost every single little detail about almost everything.

@Music Meister So you didn't play DDD then?
NCZ (Admin)
said at 3:36 PM on Wed Jan 22 2014
And while I'm at it, while BBS isn't numbered (since it'd be weird to release it as "Kingdom Hearts Zero"), it is for all intents and purposes a main game, given the tiny fact that it's the prequel to the entire franchise. Not that that's a big honking deal or anything.
said at 3:55 PM on Wed Jan 22 2014
@NCZ In all honesty it's really not that big a deal, so long as you know that three other keyblade wielders existed you don't have to play the game to understand anything that's going on. An even the spin-off games have some plot-crucial details in them. Heck, Chain of memories was a spin-off and you needed to play it to know why Sora was in a pod at the beginning of II.
said at 3:58 PM on Wed Jan 22 2014
@GothamRed But even so that's not crucial information, just generally gap filling that isn't really needed to follow the events of any other game.
Music Meister (Moderator)
said at 3:59 PM on Wed Jan 22 2014
@Nightmare Crusher They didn't make it seem important but putting the games on different systems, most of which I didn't have and didnt want. Sorry I don't go out and buy a DS just to know the backstory of Organization 13, they are all dead now they are unimportant to me anymore.
NCZ (Admin)
said at 4:00 PM on Wed Jan 22 2014
@GothamRed Well, of course, you can play I or II without BBS, but that's the same with any prequel. You don't need to see Phantom Menace to get A New Hope, for instance. The point of a prequel is to build the world further, explain the origins of everything (like Xehanort, that's a big one given he's the antagonist of the whole thing), and even set up future installments of the series.

Really, the only side game that's truly expendable is Coded. With "Chain of Memories" for instance, calling it a spin-off isn't doing it justice, I feel, since it takes place between I and II and is very important to the series--after all, it introduces Organization XIII and Namine. All of the side games are important in terms of building on the series's lore, and I think Nomura said they also allowed the devs to experiment with potential gameplay ideas they had for KHIII.
Nightmare Crusher
said at 4:05 PM on Wed Jan 22 2014
@Music Meister 358/2 was one game. And you would know how important they really are if you played DDD. Also, BBS has the backstory for the main villain, that's pretty important.

@NCZ I wasn't confused playing 2 without playing Chain of Memories (I did play it, briefly but found or boring and uninteresting, i thought it was basically a water down version of Kingdom Hearts). Still, I doubt I'll be confused playing Kingdom Hearts 3.
said at 5:56 PM on Wed Jan 22 2014
@Music Meister The reason you weren't confused playing KH2 was because there was only one game in between them, and the events could be alluded to in a few scenes.

By KH3D, the story became so confuddled that the creators felt the need to include whole plot summaries of all the other games into the game's journal. You'll be lucky if they do the same with this game. Otherwise, good luck understanding why Axel's running around with a Keyblade now.
Music Meister (Moderator)
said at 6:22 PM on Wed Jan 22 2014
@immblueversion Look, Kingdom Hearts 1, 2, 3 that's an actually order. If they didn't want the story the flow like that then they shouldn't have labled it in an order like that. I saw Karate Kid 1, 2, and (regrettably) 3, I didn't see Karate Kid: Nap of awaken divided by square root of 34545.999.
That's how I see it and that's how I'll play it
Nightmare Crusher
said at 6:30 PM on Wed Jan 22 2014
@Music Meister No one knew that the series would be as big as it was. They initially planned for two, maybe three games, and a spin-off. The reason for the naming scheme is because Nomura wants all the numbered games to have the same dev-team, but they've been busy working on the game that is now Final Fantasy XV. I will admit that Coded was a bit of a waste, but the series really isn't that convoluted as its reputation makes it out to be.
NCZ (Admin)
said at 6:31 PM on Wed Jan 22 2014
@Music Meister What do you think about Star Wars then? Or Metal Gear? Or Resident Evil, Rambo, Evil Dead, or every single franchise that uses a non-conventional sequel naming system (which is, to put it likely, a total and utter metric craptonne).

@NCZ Not a fan of any of those things you mentioned.
NCZ (Admin)
said at 6:40 PM on Wed Jan 22 2014
@Music Meister that's not really the point. the point is that to outright ignore titles in a franchise just because of something as trivial as a naming scheme is very ignorant, especially considering how basically every single major franchise under the sun has strayed away from exclusively using numbered title schemes. that was only a small sampling off the top of my head. you seem very dismissive of the kingdom hearts side games given how few you've apparently actually played.
Music Meister (Moderator)
said at 6:48 PM on Wed Jan 22 2014
@NCZ THey don't seem like important games since almost all of are not on the same. Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts 2 were PS2 games, everything else was like on other stuff so why wouldn't I assume they were just throw off games to milk something popular. Besides, most of the games were about Organization 13, I don't care about their origins. Most of them were annoying/hard as hell bosses and I didn't want to know about them. In fact, I thought they seemed more interesting the less I knew.
NCZ (Admin)
said at 6:58 PM on Wed Jan 22 2014
@Music Meister That's nothing a bit of product research couldn't fix, no?

As for them being spread out on multiple systems, it makes economic sense. The Nintendo DS is the best-selling game system ever, so of course Square will put out a game for it. BBS came out during the peak of the PSP's popularity and well after the PS2's prime. Chain of Memories I can understand, but it got a full PS2 remake later, and at the time the GBA was basically the only handheld on the market so given the budget or what they wanted to do creatively, it'd have made sense for them to put a smaller title on a handheld. And with DDD, the 3DS had been growing in popularity rapidly and it probably wouldn't have been "big" enough for PS3. And with the HD collections, they have made an effort to get the core games on PS3.
