I need to be honest here, this show is not very interesting.

Oh don't get me wrong, it's an interesting concept, and the supernatural elements are fun to watch, plus the animation is really, really good (that's no surprise) and the musical score is almost cinematic; but the problem with this show, for me at least, is the human characters.

Save for maybe Toby, most of the human characters just hit the same clichés we've seen in kids shows like 20 years ago, and the lead of the show has to be the weakest of them all. Jim is probably the most clichéd young male archetype protagonist I've seen in a while; he has girl troubles, he has trouble fitting in at school, he gets bullied, and he has to keep his double life a secret from his own mother, when really letting her know about it could actually offer her MORE protection instead of less.

Which is a shame since I thought the late Anton Yelchin did a pretty good job with his performance. :(

Now the troll characters on the other hand are probably the best thing about the series, especially the villains; they are intimidating, funny, and even sympathetic. Strickler is probably my favorite

Kelsey Grammer is very upbeat with his performance as Blinky, and of course who else to voice Aaargh than Fred Tatasciore?! Yeah it's Fred just doing another monster voice, but it's still awesome to hear; incidentally Fred's actually one of the few in the cast who are actual voice actings and the majority of other voice work in the series really shows. :/

All in all, Trollhunters is not without it's problems, but I still think it's good. I just wish they could have done more with the human characters and actually work around the clichés to make the mundane just as interesting as the supernatural.

@Troodon2 I think the best way to describe this show, is that it's basically a 90's cartoon made with modern animation.

Another thing that boggles me is why they casted Tom Hiddleston only to leave and recast him with another actor when again they could just as well have used an actual voice actor from the start... also, Matthew Waterson; good to hear more of his work and have him stand out.

@Troodon2 I'm guessing Tom wasn't available for that second episode

@TheVengeanceKnight Likely not, and I can think of a lot of reasons why, though casting such a prolific film actor like him in the first place was rather unnecessary from the start.

Del Toro never ceases to amaze me when he is involved in animation. I did nto think it would be a series, I thought it was a movie.
really tragic what happened Anton Yelchin, given what Del Toro said I am starting to think they will retire the character in the second season.

whatever happens it certianly have been a very intresting cast.
and Del Toro still shows awesome.

and it has ron perman and Kelsey Grammer too.

Great to see Del Toro branch out from producing animated films and make his own animated series (makes me hope he does more in the future.) Great CGI, fun characters, and damn good voicework

Finally watched this. It was a bit formulaic in the first half of the series, but enjoyable overall.

@D.A.V.E. Glad to know the series didn't stay formulaic. I still have some nitpicks, but otherwise, I was happy with how it ended. I can't wait for the spin-offs.

Such a shame what happened to Anton Yelchin.

I wonder what will happen in later seasons, will they do a recast or will they retire his character?

I'll still give it a watch since It's got Del Toro working on it as well as two great actors like Kelsey Grammer and Ron Perlman.

I've been enjoying most of the Dreamworks cartoons, so I have good expectations about this.

Kinda sad Yelchin is in this. Makes me wonder how many episodes he had finished recording.
