Star Blazers: The Quest for Iscandar (1979)

On the verge of extinction at the cruel hands of alien invaders, the inhabitants of Earth revive the remnants of sunk World War II battleship, the Yamato, and send a crew of astronauts to make the 148,000 light-year journey to accept an alien queen's offer of the antidote to mankind's terminal radiation poisoning.

Titled Space Battleship Yamato in Japan,this 26-episode TV series was originally released in English via airing in first-run syndication in the US in the fall of 1979.
