 1 Shout Out!
Although this may have not be the next Cowboy Bebop, it did achieve something in the English dubbing world for not only being Funimation's very first simuldub but also setting a gold standard for simuldubs in general.

Such a shame this series died a very quick and quiet death. According to this it's very clear that the creator and many others had hopes that this would be the next Cowboy Bebop and while it wasn't it was still a great series nonetheless complete with a good dub from FUNi that also happened to be the first ever simuldub.

Lots of great performances here whether it be Ian Sinclair as Dandy or the surprising appearances from Johnny Yong Bosch (playing a character called Johnny, heh heh, I see what they did there), Ashly Burch, Bryce Papenbrook, Vic Mignogna and the many others.

@RetroPokeFan It's not getting a season three? That's upsetting.

@RetroPokeFan Not to mention Patrick Seitz! It was great that Space Dandy were able to get a few LA voice actors!

the only reason i bought this series on dvd cus i heard it was a funny series and the fact that ian voiced the title character at that time i only knew ian as whis in battle of gods and i liked that movie otherwise i didnt give a damn about the rest of the cast.

man this series was incredibly funny and and did had its few emotional moments, Ian, Joel and Alison had great chemistry as the trinity and the guest characters that were brought on were amazing that i wanted to find out who voiced them, this series was the reason to led me to btva.

not only a landmark for funimation as it was their first simudub but the fact that the english dub aired one day before the sub was like what.

i wish there were more episodes but wanatabe has mostly a 26 episode policy on his shows so i doubt a season 3 will happen but bepop got a movie so why not this show.

While the hype for this series only lasted for the year it aired, we will forever remember this series as Funimation's first simuldub.

I like to see the English version of the song "Kanchigai Lonely Night", performed (with permission) by Ian Sinclair with Johnny Yong Bosch and his band Eyeshine at a convention. I hope the soundtrack of the second Space Dandy series includes the full english version of the song.

Watched the Season 2 premiere. Gotta say, it blew the Season's 1 opening out of the water and might have been the best SD episode yet!

That's a wrap on Season 1! I really enjoyed all 13 episodes, but I think my favorite ones were:
- The one with the zombies
- The one with the little girl
- The racing one
- The one with the time warp
- The finale, with QT falling in love with a coffee-machine.

Toonami is replaying it from the beginning, so it you haven't watched it yet, now would be a perfect time to start!

I really like this show. I thought it was a bit weird for the first couple episodes, but after the seventh, it's now a blast to watch. The last episode was the best yet. I love a good parody of Wacky Races/Speed Racer, and the zombie episode was really fun too. Can't wait to watch more!

Also, I find it amusing that the Japanese version is narrated by the Japanese Captain Kirk. If only Shatner himself paid Texas a timely visit ;)

Having seen the premiere recently, I have to say the dubbing here actually feels pretty natural compared to some of Funi's other work (which I usually find kind of rushed or otherwise awkward in delivery). I have to wonder whether it's because the show's dialogue was well-paced enough to localize easily or the voice direction and/or script translation was/were above-average, or maybe a combination of the two.

Most Funimation dubs are done very well though there are some weak dubs now and then. Ironically the ADR Director for most of those weak dubs is the same ADR Director for this show (Zach Bolton); maybe he finally got himself together.
As a mod I would assume you have above average voice acting knowledge because it would annoy me if you were another one of those people who had the idea that "all dubs are by Funimation" or Sentai dubs (Houston) and Funimation dubs (Dallas) are also the same... Most Sentai dubs sound really awkward and a lot of non-union California dubs do too. Funimation actually spends a lot more time dubbing their titles (which is why fans often complain it takes so long to release them) so no offense, but I find your "rushed" remark very ignorant. It's fine if you don't like a specific cast ensemble (I have my share of not-so kind opinions too) but you should at least get your facts straight. Funimation dubs aren't always perfect (voice direction or casting choices) but they are definitely never rushed...

@Mr_Ecchi_Man I guess my wording wasn't entirely clear (yet again, unfortunately); when I said "rushed", I meant to refer to the dialogue's pacing. When the script translator tries to fit in more sentences to make up for the additional syllables in the original Japanese dialogue, the dubbed dialogue tends to come off as too quick-paced to be natural, and that's the "rushed" thing that I was wanting to get across.

I admit that I'm not really an avid follower of any dubbing company, let alone Funimation, so my general view of their work might not be fitting of their entire library.

I like the voices. Just saw the episode, and I'm glad that almost all the voices are relatively new actors. (Maybe not new, but less than 100 roles)

In all seriousness this cast isn't too bad, as much as I don't care for Funimation I can put my feelings toward them aside from this. But I really was expecting a cast for this that had abit more gravity to offer than the same people who are in Funimation's dubs. Plus they really should have tried to get Steve Blum for Dandy.
said at 11:26 PM on Thu Dec 5 2013
Okay I'm seriously disappointed. I really was so damn sure that they were going to get Steven Blum for Dandy. I Mean Come On! Look At That Dude! That's Spike, and made by the same creator. I hope they at least tried to get him.
said at 12:31 PM on Mon Jan 6 2014
@Dark_Fiction The state of Texas has had a virtual monopoly on the anime dubbing business for years now, so I'm not sure why you'd even consider that a possibility.
said at 12:52 PM on Mon Jan 6 2014
@CatsTuxedo I certainly wasn't "expecting" Blum to be cast, but it is possible for VAs to work in different states. Supposedly Blum himself wanted a role in "Kids on the Slope," where the dialogue was recorded in Houston, but Sentai didn't want to go out of their way to cast him.

Also, the dubbing industry has recovered a bit from a few years ago. Sentai is now dubbing MORE than FUNi (Sentai dubbed 46 shows in 2013. FUNi dubbed 36), and Viz and Aniplex are dubbing a lot more, which is good news for LA. 22 dubs were recorded in there in 2013. I trust that whoever did that counting was accurate...
