It sucks that Steve Blum, Kari Wahlgren, and Yuri Lowenthal didn't get to be in the new Sailor Moon dub from VIZ.
said at 11:03 AM on Sat Jul 7 2018
@littlepaul1002 Pretty sure this was a Non-Union dub so Steve wouldn't have been in it anyway.

Yuri's kind of an odd bag since he mostly does Union stuff but there was the rare Non-Union case with Xenoblade X.

@RetroPokeFan Steve Blum does shojo stuff too. Check out X and the 2nd Cardcaptor Sakura movie. They are shojo anime.

@8000 Saiyans It's definitely worth it! Both the original Japanese and Viz Media dubs are incredibly well done and both can be watched for free on Viz's official website!

@Soul-dragon I've already seen the Japanese version of Sailor Moon. I saw it a long time ago.

The new dub is better than the old dub (runs away)
said at 4:28 PM on Wed Jun 14 2017
@Soul-dragon I'm fairly certain that's not an unpopular opinion on this site though (Personally, there are a few voices from the old dub I like better, and some that I like in the redub more.)
said at 10:00 AM on Thu Mar 15 2018
@Soul-dragon Nobody in their right mind could possibly deny that.

@Galactic_Cyrus Some people do. It's most likely due to nostalgia which is a very powerful thing indeed. But if you want to know what I thought of the DiC dub look no further than this.

Late where I'm at so for right now I'll make this quick. I started this show recently from the beginning (Viz dub, I do check out the JP audio from time to time & I'll comment on dub/sub later), I just gotta say it really is a great pre-Buffy-esq show. Usagi is a wonderful & endearing protag & I love the very YuYu Hakusho feel I get from the show in general (wonder if that's just me). I'm about 30 episodes in after a few hours' worth & I think this is the anime I'll be watching for awhile.

The English dub not only exists (unlike, say, Yamato which I'm also watching) but unlike some other shows I've been watching is also not mediocre (Zeta Gundam) nor god-awful (Slam Dunk) despite being for an older show (yeah, I know it's a new dub, but still). I hear good things about Ranma & Saint Seiya as well, but I really think I want to see SM especially as a Buffy precursor (I've seen about half of Buffy before stopping to see SM) so it's definitely my most prioritized TV show right now. Definitely will comment later.

@huzaifa_ahmed Funny thing the creator of Yu Yu Hakusho is married to the creator of Sailor Moon.

Ah yes it came to my mind that this series had a Speedy dub with acting similar to Dragon Ball Z(heck most of the females sounded like Krillin in said dub) I only had two episodes that I'm a little too fearful to touch again

Really bummed that, in regards to the new Sailor Scouts, they got three of the K-On! girls but left out Mugi and made Ritsu a villain!
said at 8:07 AM on Wed Apr 8 2015
The first season was the best - after that it just kept getting goofier.

But with the first season you just had the five girls and their personalities and powers, and it was all good and uncomplicated.

And in the first season, the monsters were truly frightening.

I must admit the dub is still hit and miss but it's better than the voice work for the first two seasons of the old dub

And I actually found a voice I love from Cherami, she's kinda hit and miss for me

@HienFan Still I'll wait until they dub S and SuperS to give an overall review, I still prefer the Cloverway dub at this point

I spent most of this week watching the Viz dub of Sailor Moon and I must say it's pretty good for the most part, not perfect but still very darn good.

The casting for all of the Sailor Senshi/Guardians were all well cast. They all play their parts perfectly and their performances emulate the original seiyuu's in their own way but still make it their own. It's also is a childhood dream come too for Amanda Celine Miller in particular grew up with Sailor Moon and Jupiter was her favorite as a kid, I mean what are the odds of that happening, getting the chance to voice your childhood hero, that is awesome. Cristina Vee playing Mars was a great change of pace for her in almost every way I hope she voices more characters like her in the future since she was really funny in the role, Kate Higgins as Mercury is really cute, Cherami Leigh as Venus, I love this casting so much as soon as I saw the casting and saw the design I knew she was perfect for the role and she didn't disappoint and lastly Stephanie Sheh as Sailor Moon...after this without a doubt she IS the english Kotono Mitsuishi. She hits it right on the money in nailing the airheaded yet loving hero Usagi as well as her emotional scenes and her battle cries are incredible because of how much she emulates Mitsuishi.

I also really enjoyed the voices for the Dark Kingdom Generals, Todd Haberkorn's Jadiete was pretty good his voice is a bit lighter than I'd prefer Jadiete to sound like but he was really smooth sounding and arrogant which was the most important part in Jadiete's voice. Liam O'Brien as Nephrite was just perfect not much else to say about it. Patrick Seitz's Kunzite is just the right level of deep and a major shout out to Lucien Dodge as Zoicite especially since the original dub changed the character from a gay man to a woman while still making him an entertaining villain....oh and the girlish screams are hilarious, Lucien and folks at Viz finally did justice to the character that was needed so many years ago.

I think the biggest surprise really goes to Michelle Ruff as Luna who does sound somewhat the furthest way from the original seiyuu Keiko Han, she doesn't sound as cat like but she just fits so well playing the beleaguered feline alongside with her Bleach co-star Johnny Yong Bosch as Artemis.

Newcomer Robbie Daymond as Tuxedo Mask is a bit of a mixed bag, sometimes he's kind of bland but other times he's really good especially as Prince Endymion towards the end of the first season. I have faith he will improve as the dub goes on.

I still prefer the Japanese voices for Sailor Moon a bit more but the Viz dub is a solid dub that does justice to the show that the fans always wanted. No doubt the Viz dub will continue to get even better in the later seasons, I'm looking forward to seeing what castings they come up with next.

Then again the LA staff are kinda like Aoni Corp to me very hit and miss with every character

Since Viz is dubbing Sailor Moon, many fans get that assumption their favorite voice actors from Funimation will voice, but they're using Viz actors not Funimation. So we won't hear voices like Colleen or Luci. We would expect to hear voice actors like Kira Buckland, Christine Marie Cabanos, Megan Hollingshead, Steve Staley, Cassandra Lee Morris, Erica Mendez, Kari Wahlgren and so on.

Just finally got the chance to go out of my way & saw the first 23 episodes of the Viz Dub on Neon Alley and so far... I LOVE IT!!

I'm really loving Stephanie Sheh as Usagi, Cristina Vee as Rei, Kate Higgins as Ami, Michelle Ruff as Luna & Robbie Daymond as Mamoru. Plus I got a kick out of Todd Haberkorn, Liam O'Brien, Lucien Dodge & Patrick Seitz playing the four generals.

Overall so far, I think the Viz dub is pretty good as I was hoping and expecting.

Oh man, I'm already seeing people bitch about how the heavily censored and edited dub from the 90s is better just because they're blinded by nostalgia...

@LeDom I grew up watching the 90's dub almost everyday as a kid. That said I'll only watch the sub or the new dub. Nostalgia didn't help me like CatDog as an adult, It ain't gonna help with this.
said at 6:30 AM on Mon Oct 2 2017
@LeDom I shouted this comment out originally, but in hindsight I regret that. Just because some people MIGHT like some voices from the old dub better, or dislike certain things about the Viz dub, does NOT necessarily mean that they're "blinded by nostalgia"

It's incredibly ignorant to assume so.

@Ichigo341578926 That's quite a sily comparison, isn't it?
said at 2:57 PM on Mon Oct 2 2017
@HylianBelmont Yes, but it just goes to show that something you might of liked a lot when you were young, could easily be something you can't stand when you grow up. It's sad, but it's an aspect of life that can't be avoided.

I'm actually looking very forward to the redub. There are so many talented voice actors out there, I know they would do this show justice. Don't get me wrong, I love the old dub (other than the whole cousin thing), but it is very much a product of it's time, it's time for something for a new generation of fans. With that said, the original dub will always be a source of nostalgia, and maybe Viz could do something like FUNimation's "Rock the Dragon" set with Dragon Ball Z (maybe the "Fighting Evil By Moonlight" set?).
said at 1:28 AM on Mon Apr 21 2014
Love the show especially the Final season(pity that one wasn't dubbed, I'd like to hear the S/supers cast again)

I wonder how the reboot will go and who is going to get it dubbed if it does get dubbed? Funimation? They are good but I will always prefer the S/Supers cast
