I have considered checking this show out, but at the same time I kind of don't want to mainly because of how bad the fanbase is (who the heck creates a full out riot because they didn't get a pack of sauce?). Is it worth it? I mean, I'm already in one toxic fanbase, I don't think I need another one, but if the show is ok I'll check it out.

@Soul-dragon I'm a little curious what that other fanbase is?

But, this is a good series, though it's admittedly unfortunate that some of the fanbase is toxic. The fact that you acknowledge the toxicity of the fanbase shows that if you were to watch it you would be smart enough to keep yourself out of the toxic parts of the fanbase.

@Soul-dragon Ah. I've never seen or played any of those so I don't know if they're good or not. But I didn't know that that had a toxic fanbase.

@Soul-dragon Honestly bud, give the show a shot. It's a really good show. Yeah a good chunk of the fan-base is toxic. But don't let them ruin it for you.

If there's anything I've learned being both a fan of this and a fan of Deadpool (who I will openly admit is often a character made to look bad by the internet and cosplay)....It's that you just gotta flip those toxic fans the finger and instead lead by example. Be a better fan than them, by being a better person.

@Soul-dragon Honestly, every fandom is /toxic/ to some degree. Bigger fandoms just seem more toxic due to having a greater chance of running into that vocal minority.

Best to just ignore them and check out and/or watch whatever looks appealing to you. If anything, toxic fanbases need more non-toxic members.

@Soul-dragon There was never a full-out riot. It was just some idiots shouting, that's it. The Internet loves to exaggerate and milk stuff out, though.

@Soul-dragon Anime fanbases are known for being toxic. It shouldn't represent the whole fanbase as a whole, but there are a lot of people on the internet with loud voices that they want to be heard. Yet they go about it the wrong way.

@Soul-dragon OK I messed that first comment up. What I meant to say was that fanbases have a toxic side & it's not exclusive. Just remove the word anime & the original comment would have remained mostly unchanged.

I'm not really a big fan of the show, particularly it's overly raunchy material, (even if it is suppose to be an adult cartoon) but I'll admit, this does look like a genuine successor to Futurama.

If you take away the really raunchy stuff and just focus on the timing and pacing of the writing, in both the comedy and it's moments of character, it actually is a pretty smart, funny, and sometimes even heart moving show; kind of like a, Star vs the Forces of Evil for Adults. (mind you it's probably not the best analogy)

But you wanna know my favorite thing about the show most of all?!

-- It re-introduced me to McDondald's Szechuan Sauce; and even inspired me to cook my own patch based on the exact ingredients thanks to Bilbash's videos. I didn't get all the ingredients mind you, but after tasting it for the first time it did not disappoint.

Did I hear Peter Serafinowicz in this? does he voice the guy who's trying to kill Pickle Rick? It sounds like either him or Jeff Bennett

I recently binge watched the whole series on Netflix and really enjoyed it, which is weird since the show has all the usual red flags. It is very raunchy adult cartoon with simple art-style, mean-spirited tone and unpleasant main character, but it still works.

I think that it comes down to the show just being so smartly written that all those elements weirdly work. It isn't aping The Simpsons or other poular adult cartoons, but rather creating its own identity, it is never shocking for the sake of pointless shock value, it rarely tries to do "topical" humor that was already dated during the original air date and Rick has plenty moments of humanity to balance out his jerk moments and he his clearly in the middle of a character arc to become a better person. Plus, the sci-fi - aspect is done brilliantly. There's just so much imagination put to every episode that it is hard not to get sucked in and many of the show's sci-fi concepts, with little tweaking, could work in more serious shows like Star Trek or Doctor Who.

If you haven't wathced this show and can stomach raunchy humor, give it a try. You might be pleasantly surprised.

I wasn't all that sure what to think about this show when I first heard about it, but then I started watching it and now I'm absolutely in love with the show.

It's absolutely genius and awesome!

They have a good balance between characters and (as critics have put it) it has shades of Futurama and South Park in it.

I was surprised to see Kari Wahlgren in an adult rated cartoon for once.

I'd also like to give a special shout out to Rob Paulsen for his performance as Snuffles. When I first saw that episode, I thought it was Tom Kane.

@Troodon2 I'm not doubting that she's been in adult shows before; I'm just saying that this was perhaps the first time I myself saw her in one.

"Get Schwifty" isn't that great of a song but ever since that episode the lyrics are stuck in my head! Adult Swim's youtube channel with that clip has 3/4 million views at the moment.

Holy crap that art style looks ugly.

@TheLemsterPju Yeah, but the show is so wonderfully written that you just don't give a crap. :D
said at 5:47 PM on Sat Sep 5 2015
@BCHolbrook I'm not sure if anyone is in any position to make claims over whether someone else won't "give a crap" about an art style. Cartoons are a visual medium, so the aesthetics do play a role in whether someone will stick around and see the show in the long-term. No matter what the quality of the writing is, it can be hard to maintain an audience if the look is deemed too bland or too unappealing to keep viewers connected.

@CatsTuxedo Sorry, I didn't mean to come off like that. I meant it to be as a simple praise to the show's writing. I wasn't trying to force my opinion. Sorry if that's what I did.
