 2 Shout Outs!
The dub goes for a bit of a more perverted state than the show already is.
For example: There is an off screen scene where Takeru (Ian Sinclair) gets bathed by both Inaho (Tia Ballard) and Haruko (Monica Rial). Both females decide to bathe Takeru from the front (so Takeru obviously has a stiffy). In the sub, Inaho notices the stiffy and ask him what is that to which Takeru responds that it is his "Maken and Ooyama special". The dub goes for broke in this scene. In the dub, Inaho points out the stiffy with a "Aw look a little elephant", to which Takeru responds with "No this is my Maken. Codename: Woolly mammoth!"

I bet it must be very fun to have such privileges when adapting a script.

Stephanie Sheh voicing the Illya Cosplayer? Alright, this is a nice touch by Funi.

The dub is spectacular! It does stick true to the series, but there has been moments where they were given Carte Blanche to make it more enjoyable to western audiences.

For example in episode 5 where Takeru and Nurse Aki got handcuffed together, Nurse Aki got to tingle and he forced Takeru to sing as loud as possible. What he sang, the Japanese subtitles read "The big and mighty...", but in the Dub, Ian Sinclair sang All is All from Space Dandy.

I'd rather Funimation stick with Bryn for S4, for consistency's sake.

Cassandra Lee Morris isn't playing Kodama? B-B-BUT WHY!!!??? (P.S Anthony Bowling playing Kengo is a sad reminder of those who are not with us anymore)

@Speny37VA Right, and look on the bright side, I saw Illya from Fate/kaleid liner prisma illya in this anime,... AND being voiced by Stephanie Sheh.

@xstationo Lol its the correct but also incorrect Illya here lol. Stephani Sheh played Illya in the main series, and Cynthia Martinez played Illya in Kaleid series.

Did they dub this before the whole Scott Freeman thing...?

From what I've read it was originally planned for a Spring 2015 release which would imply the dub was already done and he should be in it. Earliest possible start for recording the dub would probably have been Summer of 2014.

Of course it's possible there was a delay in production; Space Dandy's second half consumed a lot of resources during the summer, and then the first 2 broadcast dubs beginning near the end of 2014 probably didn't make backlog titles like this show a high priority.

FWIW Joel McDonald directed the first series and since he co-directed the dub for Space Dandy and then directed Laughing Under the Clouds he would've been occupied for the 2nd half of 2014. Although... he may have pawned off Maken-ki! Two onto someone else; maybe Jerry Jewell? who funny enough has built up a nice reputation of succeeding his predecessors (mostly Joel McDonald and Zach Bolton) for sequels which have even better sounding dubs :P

Kadokawa who FUNimation licensed this show from has a history of being reluctant to give Blu-ray rights because of reverse importation fears. What's kind of messed up is by the time they do give the green-light there's literally like the smallest window of opportunity for an English Blu-ray release because then Kadokawa decides they want to re-release their own version in a complete season/series box set (originally the anime is released as numerous individual volumes). Another Japanese Blu-ray release means FUNimation has to delay their Blu-ray release once again. They could just release it on DVD (and for some series sometimes they do that and release a Blu-ray later on), but from a manufacturing and sales point of view it's probably more convenient to print both DVD and Blu-ray discs at the same time and don't want pre-order sales to suffer because some fans are holding out for the Blu-ray.

Short and simple answer:

He could still be in it (if recorded sometime in 2014) but if recording didn't start until sometime in 2015 then probably not.

 1 Shout Out!
I thought the first season was enjoyable for what it was.
I was actually pleasantly surprised when I saw how much the animation had improved in the second season.
But story-wise... the entire second season felt like an OVA, really.

No actual connecting story. Just a short series of mini-stories. An entire season of filler.

Course, the fanservice seemed much more prominent in the second season, so I guess they realized that the majority of the viewers weren't watching for the story.

Which is a shame. Considering the improvement in animation, I would have liked to see more action and things happening that are actually relevant to the plot.

Ah well.

Very true. IIRC I think every episode except the last one (the flashbacks anyway) were complete filler.

I agree the animation was better but I preferred the character designs from the first series. There was also a lot of hype from fanservice fans since Hiraku Kaneko was directing it; hard to top the god-tier work he did on Qwaser of Stigmata, Manyuu Hikenchou and Kagaku na Yatsura but Maken-ki! Two was still good in some ways.

Having read the manga I also wish TPTB would have actually adapted some actual chapters but I can't entirely blame them for knowing their audience and who they were trying to sell to.
