Realizing that his efforts to destroy his criminal records at every major police force in the world would take him a half a century and that every John Q. Law (and Koichi Zenigata) will always be one step ahead of him, Lupin's settled into early retirement. Regardless, Zenigata's still in pursuit, and Jigen's scheming after a huge diamond stashed in the Statue of Liberty. But what's with the suspiciously knowledgeable little kid that keeps popping up and now trying to pull Lupin back into the game?
Titled Bye-Bye Liberty - Close Call! in Japan, this 96-minute TV special was originally dubbed by Manga Video for release in the UK on VHS on September 09, 1996. It was not released in the US until its inclusion on a 2014 DVD release from Eastern Star under the title Bye, Bye Lady Liberty. For legal reasons, the dub changed Lupin's name to Wolf.
