 1 Shout Out!
After watching the series twice, its hard to compliment Guilty Crown. Credit for Production I.G in spending the budget on the aesthetics and sound. I won't talk about the execution of the story but the vocal performance I paid most attention to was Ayase Shinomiya, who was played by Emily Neves. I mentioned in an earlier post I was interested in the performance from Neves and I can say she did not disappoint. Her action incidentals were good, not over the top, her dialog delivery was right for the scenes and it sounded like she had a good time. (Funimation, hire this lady often)

My surprise favourite male performer was John Swasey as Makoto Segai. Quite easily the best male character in the series and my pick for best male performer in this series.

The performance I didn't like was Micah Solusod as Gai Tsutsugami. It felt to me underwhelming as it lacked the charisma and delivery befitting for a young, good-looking, charismatic leader who is a jerk.

To me, it was irrelevant on which audio language I watched it in, it was just hard to like the series as a whole.

@akersaotome I think that English voice acting in anime, with a few exceptions, tends to be even just a little bit stilted. This dub was OK, but still has a good number of underacted lines.

I amazed someone has responded to my views on Guilty Crown so I thank you for it.

This is my view only so naturally I'll be slaughtered for it so here goes:

In the Japanese audio track that made me very unhappy was when Inori powers up in episode 18. As Inori was fighting, you'd expect her the actress, Ai Kayano, given the nature of the scene, to go all out in a controlled manner. Unfortunately the execution of it was pretty bad, to the point where I thought to myself that Ai Kayano needs to be cast in some video games where there's plenty of fight reactions, so for next time she can sell it better. I would like to think the voice director gave her appropriate direction, recorded the scene multiple times and make it pretty during post production; unfortunately that was the end result.

@akersaotome OK, thanks for that.

@BlankSlate No it isn't. And even if they were, foreign dubs of American cartoons certainly aren't better. I would think someone who has an international outlook on VAs would know not to make such a generalizing and inaccurate comment like that.

@AntiSabat666 Looking back on it, this one was decent. Not a bad dub, but I've heard better.

I have the dvd of this show early and I'm assuming Morgan Garrett does the voice of Emily? I've seen no Emily in the cast but in the additional cast list Morgan is included, usually as the only female on that list and often when Emily speaks.

Is it wrong for me to say that I'm interested in hearing how Emily Neves performs in this series?

I would say there is a good possibility that Josh Grelle could be given role of Shu Ouma its quite plausible to considering he's been grabbing alot of lead roles in recent Funimation titles such as Freezing,Toriko and Shakugan no Shana. I feel that an actor of such high caliber like Josh would be the perfect fit for a character like Shu Ouma. Todd Haberkorn would be the other obvious candidate for the role but personally as much as I like Todd as an actor I feel that he is far to overused now days. Michael J Tatum would be a fine choice to play Gai Tsutsugami. Monica Rial or Brina Palencia will most likely end up with the role of Inori Yuzuriha.

@IAMTHEVASTUNIVERSE I'm personally hoping for Micah Solusod or Aaron Dismuke as Shu. :P

@PurpleWarrior13 Micah is the lead in Eureka Seven AO so having him be the lead in Guilty Crown as well would be a bit of an overkill. I wouldn't mind Aaron being cast as Shu or even Austin Tindle but I feel Josh Grelle would be the best choice for the role. It may end up being Todd he is the go to guy for these type of roles.

@IAMTHEVASTUNIVERSE I feel Josh and Todd would both sound too old, and not realistic enough. Casting someone closer to the character's age seems most appropriate to me.

@IAMTHEVASTUNIVERSE Although I am happy with Austin Tindle being cast. :D

@PurpleWarrior13 I am quite satisfied with Austin Tindle being cast as well. Austin is really going to have step his game up with this dub tho.
