So James Marsters is going to be Zamasu? Interesting choice. It's nice to see a celebrity in an anime (Michael B Jordon when?). But can he top this?

@Soul-dragon Not going to lie, based on what I've seen I LOVE his take on Zamasu. I will admit that a part of me wished to hear Jay Goede as Zamasu (even though it was never going to happen) but this is just as perfect.
Now...when is Michael B Jordon going to be in a dub?

 1 Shout Out!

No James Marsters, guys. Don't believe in rumors so easily next time, people.

@MizukaS David Gray is an alias so it still could be him.
said at 1:30 AM on Tue Jan 16 2018
You got any proof that it's just an alias? If there's no official confirmation that David = James, I'm not buying any of it.

This is the kind of scenario where I *would* buy the alias theory: Remember when Steve Blum confirmed that he used the handle "David Lucas" when he recorded for Spike? Yes, that's a legit confirmation, and no longer a rumor. There would be no reason to doubt.

But that's not the case here. Get it?

@MizukaS @MizukaS There is a ton of evidence that "David Gray" is a pseudonym.
1. Look up David Gray all that pops up is an English musician and if you google David Gray Actor a few minor and deceased actors pop up but the most prolific actor is one name David Barry Gray who is hasn't done much at all.
2. Listen to Marsters as:
Lex Luthor
and Captain Argyus
Now listen to Zamasu's voice
Sound very similar don't they.
3. James Marsters had a show named ViDiots where in one episode he went to Texas and met up with Sabat to record a voice-over reel but he actually wanted a role in Dragon Ball Super.
4. Clifford Chapin (who plays Cabba) said that "The last time I saw casting this amazing, it was Asami on The Legend of Korra" in reference to Zamasu's casting. Asami was played by the actress that played Princess Yue in The Last Airbender movie which was horrible like Dragon Ball Evolution where James Marsters played Piccolo.
5. Geekdom101 (a youtuber who has some sort of connection with Funimation) said that Sabat said told him that we wouldn't believe who they got for Zamasu "Oh man I can't believe they got David Gray"
6. When the Zamasu DLC came out they did not say who voiced Zamasu, they confirmed everyone else but not Zamasu.
7. And in that tweet it says "Fans should definitely be sure to look out for his voice" why would they say that about the unknown voice actor "David Gray".
So yeah definitely a pseudonym.

It's all speculation. None of these are "evidence", per se. If and when you manage to find a legit confirmation without the Funi staff beating around the bush, maybe then I'll be less skeptical.
said at 4:52 AM on Tue Jan 16 2018
ie. What I'm looking for is undeniable proof that David = James, in the same manner that 1 + 1 = 2. Unless you or any other member here could do that, I'm staying skeptical on the entire matter.
said at 4:57 AM on Tue Jan 16 2018
I'm not even sure why Funimation bothered to credit Zamasu at all. We don't know who that guy is, so it's not like it matters whether he's credited or not.
said at 8:31 AM on Mon Jan 22 2018
@MizukaS They most likely wanted to cause drama/excitement since that will draw people to the show.
said at 9:04 AM on Mon Jan 22 2018
@MizukaS Which is a more reason of why it's more possible it's James Marsters. Remmeber that don't take everything at face value like with Frost.
said at 3:11 PM on Tue Jan 23 2018

On top of that, FighterZ just came out, and check out who's voicing Zamasu--"Sam Majesters". (go to 42:26 if link doesn't work for some reason)

Aside from the obvious last name similarities, there's no actor with such a name, so this is just as much as a pseudonym as "David Gray". In other words, we've got a lock.

@MasterBlaster It's an anagram for James Marsters (without one of the r's for some reason)

@MizukaS Stop denying it. @coolies' reasoning is flawless. Even I didn't want to believe it, but it makes so much sense.

@MizukaS Undeniable proof eh? Was that comment by coolies not enough to convince you? It's been pretty clear for a while that James Marsters is Zamasu & Sabat wanted to create a lot of buzz around it. People that aren't super invested in voice over probably wouldn't care who it was, or wouldn't make that connection to begin with.

Also if you understood how pseudonyms & actors unions work, you'd know that union actors doing work in non-union productions is frowned upon & you end up getting in trouble with SAG-AFTRA. That's why the whole pseudonym thing exists. It's a loophole to get into non-union shows & video games.

@Galactic_Cyrus hey it was just that one hint from clifford chapin, we dont have an actual confirmation yet
said at 9:19 AM on Thu May 11 2017
@Abdullab All sources are now saying it's him, including Google Searching "Zamasu voice." Hearing Marster's other voice work and comparing to what we've heard of Zamasu, it sure does sound a lot like him.
said at 9:44 AM on Thu May 11 2017
@Galactic_Cyrus I actually didn't believe it at first either, but yeah it's awesome that they got someone like that honestly!
said at 10:20 AM on Thu May 11 2017
@HylianBelmont its not often we get a well known accompolished tv actor in an anime dub especially funi and fun fact he is the third smallville actor to be in an anime dub after Alessandro Juliani and michael dangerfield

@Abdullab we should gice huzaifa ahmed props on this prediction

I suspect they're going to cast Josh Grell as this guy's voice in the dub based on his earlier role as Demon God Demigra in Xenoverse. Zamasu's entire character sort of reads like an alternate origin story for Demigra and I was rather disappointed that his spirit didn't become Demigra instead of becoming...whatever that thing was he became at the end.
said at 10:55 PM on Wed Mar 29 2017
@Galactic_Cyrus I dunno much about the other character you mentioned, but if Zamasu would've turned into that...I would've been really disappointed. It would've really felt like a cop out and it wouldn't have made him his own character. Just would've felt like a halfassed change at the last second.

*SPOILERS* I think it was better this way, I mean, Zamasu's will was so strong that he ended up taking over the multiverse and destroying the remaining humans from the future, that's pretty awesome if you ask me. You don't get much more evil than that.

@Metabad I didn't mean that Zamasu would literally become Demigra (who in Xenoverse was a demon who ascended to godhood) - just that Zamasu would actually die from Trunks' spirit sword but his soul had gotten so much hatred and malice in it that it would mutate into it's own existence, and that existence would eventually take physical shape as Demon God Demigra.

I just did not care for that angle with Zamasu's spirit that they went with - it felt forced in there just to give the saga a needlessly dark and bleak outcome, and having Future Trunks' entire universe and everyone in it completely obliterated out of existence pisses all over everything he fought for in the Cell Saga, which was my favorite saga in DBZ, so I really did not appreciate DBS doing that. It marred what was otherwise a solid saga.

@Galactic_Cyrus I think it's Mercer or Chris Smith going by preview. Good choice IMO.
said at 3:26 PM on Sat Apr 22 2017
@Galactic_Cyrus I dunno, if it took another form I wouldn't mind, but I still stand by his soul taking the shape of Demigra would be a major cop out.

That said I can see your frustrations with it a little more clearly now, I myself really liked Zamasu a lot considering he got me to think about a lot of stuff in life and felt his ending was pretty intense, that said at least Future Trunks and Mai made it out of there alright, and let's face it, there wasn't much they could've done to fix that hopelessly bleak setting, it's probably for the best that they headed for a new timeline to start over.
said at 9:40 AM on Sun Feb 25 2018
@Metabad Well they could never use the Xenoverse characters anyway but I still think that the split part of Fusion Zamasu's soul going backward in time to the ancient past and reincarnating as Demigra would be an interesting set-up for a villain to escalate a threat. Sort of like how in Z we went from Vegeta to the guy who Vegeta worked for to a guy who has both those villains' cells inside of him.
