Not bad for Donald's first directing project.

Also was cool to see the FUNi talent get a crack at some roles and extra marks for bringing back Yuri Lowenthal, Johnny Yong Bosch and Kate Higgins back.

Director Donald did pretty well for his first directing gig and first role in Funimation.

Also, with regard to the recent Hi Evolution dub announcement, I'm convinced that Funimation WILL unionize the upcoming S3 as well to ensure that most, if not everyone, could reprise their roles.

i cant beleive sean finally appeared in a funi dub series after almost 10 years excluding Dragon Ball, hopefully he appears in more
said at 11:36 PM on Fri Jul 14 2017

So One Piece: Strong World doesn't exist huh?

As for his role here I'm not sure it's actually him. Sounded like Tyson Rinehart; wouldn't be surprised if it was a credit error because this dub seemed to have a bunch of those issues...

e.g. Cherami Leigh is credited as the Caretaker of Spacetime but Michelle Rojas confirmed the role via twitter and actually listening to the voice it's not Cherami.

Makes me think maybe originally people like Cherami Leigh and Sean Schemmel were supposed to voice those characters but got recast last minute due to scheduling problems.

Possibly a similar situation with Jason Douglas (who's still working on The Walking Dead last I checked). Could be wrong but his character sounded like 3 different people at various points and none really sound like Jason except for like 1 line I heard.

Also not that thrilled about the accents. Sure it's set in former Europe but the first 2 series never gave the Chinese Federation questionable Chinese accents or Knights of Britannia some British accents. Everyone may have sounded 'American' but because of that everyone didn't need to hold back the actual acting vs. prioritizing an accent.

Maybe I'm in the minority but I would've liked consistency but I guess the ADR Director wanted to put his own mark on this installment for 'better' or worse.

Assuming Funimation gets the new Code Geass series they really have no choice but to get Johnny Yong Bosch to return again. Using Micah Solusod as a potential stand-in after casting him as the lead in this show wouldn't be the best look for the company.

@lazydude500 i meant a tv show not a movie and its possible anime news network got the credits wrong but considering that sean has basically retired from anime dubbing excluding goku i highly now doubt its him

@lazydude500 "Assuming Funimation gets the new Code Geass series they really have no choice but to get Johnny Yong Bosch to return again."

Uh, I don't see why they WOULDN'T get him to return for the new series after getting him back for this and Danganronpa 3. I'm sure FUNi knows how stupid it would be not to get him back.
said at 2:49 AM on Sun Jul 30 2017

Bosch hasn't always returned to reprise old roles at Funimation FWIW. It's an obvious and easy decision but you might be surprised how inconsistent and sometimes dumb they can be on several no-brainer situations.

@lazydude500 Schemmel has never really had the biggest presence in anime to begin with. Most of that has to do with the fact that he lived in New York when he was still dubbing most of the Dragonball series & moved to LA.

People have been wanting this for years,Yuri is finally in a funi dub. I know he is just reprising his role from the last Code Geass series, but maybe this will lead to him being in more projects.

He was in Bayonetta: Bloody Fate before this. But that was also him just reprising a role, and it was recorded at a different studio.

@Darkness Dragon I would really love it if he (and Kate Higgins for that matter) had at least one role in the FUNi dub of Dragon Ball Super.

First preview of the English dub:

Everyone's sounding pretty good and it feels quite nice to hear Johnny Yong Bosch back after all these years. So I'm hyped as hell.

Caught off guard by the choice of accents for the European characters (including the lead of Leila) but I think it works. Accents didn't slide in the original series as giving them to the Japanese cast would just sound terrible and the Britannians' real world equivalent is essentially America (despite what the name might imply, the worldbuilding in CG is weird and complicated).

The Europeans getting accents seems like a fair deal and has some basis for how the actors can make their voices sound like (a lot of the onscreen text in these OVAs is written in French and Paris is the capital of the EU in this universe).

@JRPictures im really interested to see how funi handles this after animaze closed down when original founder and vd kevin seymor passed away

@JRPictures "Accents didn't slide in the original series as giving them to the Japanese cast would just sound terrible"

I, for one, would love to hear good Japanese accents in an anime dub. Genji: Tales of the Blade is one good example of this, although not quite anime it's still relevant. Problem is, it's not really convenient to FUNi's MO at the moment (after all, isnt Texas the *last* place you'd go for Japanese accents); if they maybe finished that proposed LA studio they'd probably find agencies in LA that specialized that.

Of course, overall the issue isnt just a financial one, but a stylistic & creative one as well. Accents being done for realism purposes & all...really the most realistic choice for foreign characters is to speak whatever language they'd speak normally (It did take me out of the experience to have Tatsu & Maseo on Arrow, for instance, speak *English with Japanese accent* to each other, instead of just Japanese which would be IRL). The purpose of the accent is to differentiate the character, & JP characters are just normal in most anime because most anime represent JP people.

That said however I think it's totally a possibility & realistic for Code Geass JP characters to speak English with Japanese accents; however, it would probably ruin it when they're speaking just to each other, as they couldnt just speak Japanese because y'know, it's an English dub lol. Ideally seeing as CG is an international show it should speak various languages, I feel thatd add so much to the richness of it; sadly it's pretty much a JP-only w/licensed distribution, so it'll likely just be business as usual. Ah well; hope it's a great dub as the last ones were.

@Marakutanay if funi got him for black butler than it should not be a problem.
said at 6:34 PM on Sun Mar 26 2017
@Marakutanay Spoiling that scene was probably the reason why Funimation didn't include that character in the casting announcement to begin with.

Seeing as the actor already has a strong history with Funimation anyway, they'll definitely be back.
said at 7:05 PM on Sun Mar 26 2017
@Marakutanay Didn't need to watch the scene the character's on the picture for the video. And wow they show up!? Curious to see why.

@Ichigo341578926 So did that just spoil something to us? Didn't watch the video, but it did look like a big revelation. Yeah FUNi would easily get that person back.
said at 11:16 PM on Fri Mar 31 2017
@itsmedeadpool Knowing the context of the character's appearance, it's not a terribly big revelation. More like an extra wink to fans for one final scene in the last OVA while still tied in to the events of Season 2.

@Shaun Ince Will be a massive upset if he doesn't, but my guess is he definitely will. Nothing has been confirmed though, but hey if they can get Sakura and Sasuke back... Also I feel the LA actors recorded in LA itself (unless otherwise) to spare them the travel journey. If Kyoushirou was also in this, then i can't see them not getting Steve Blum back.
Imagine if Schneizel (Troy Baker) was also appearing in these OVAs. Then the talk would have been on to see how far FUNi went, but if Troy didn't even reprise Ishida in 'Judge End', then they didn't need to worry about inevitably replacing him.

@itsmedeadpool It will something to see what that do for Season 3 one that pick up the rights to the English Dub since alot of people from Code Geass R1 and R2 are mostly coming back. Code Geass Season 3 had a change maybe of being done LA b/c of that. As for Kate and Yuri recording it in LA for the OVA that may have that do do some dub now in LA like the Attack on Titans JR. OVA that dub was all done in LA. Also that movie YourName new movie was done in LA so so maybe we will have to wait and see what happen for Season 3. But aless we know there mostly coming back for Season 3 too when it come out for the English dub. But aless we can for now enjoy this Code Geass OVA with knowing Kate and Yuri will be there and hopeful Johnny too soon.

@BioZero216 I'm gonna guess the dub will be a mix of LA and Texas actors (ala Danganronpa 3 and Tales of Zestiria). Which is fine to me! It's awesome when you hear both pools mixed into one show.
said at 1:48 AM on Sun Oct 30 2016
@Unknownsage13 Honestly I kinda would appreciate it more if it were "FUNi reaches out to LA" rather than "FUNi uses as many local VA's as possible despite the original dub being in LA".

I really hope that new LA studio comes along nicely & quickly enough. Sonny Strait also mentioned some success with directing over the Internet as well.
said at 5:53 PM on Sun Oct 30 2016
@huzaifa_ahmed I don't get what you mean.
said at 6:59 PM on Sun Oct 30 2016
@Unknownsage13 Diversity generally asks for more money, & FUNi did a bit of that with AoT, forming new connections to broaden the pool. Whereas in Geass' case, FUNi simply reprising the old VA's & casting the rest in Texas..would be a typical Texas dub, for the most part. Theyd be using the cheaper local in-house VAs AMAP, & only spending just enough to keep the character voices consistent.

Dont get me wrong, I'd appreciate having reprisals at all, but I'd dig it even further if they used this as an opportunity to connect w/others, like Wally Wingert or Cam Clarke, etc. Or if they regularly cooperated with New Generation Pictures or NYAV (both of whom have worked with them in the past)..Id love it.
said at 8:05 PM on Sun Oct 30 2016
@huzaifa_ahmed well that's what I meant. Cuz similar to how they had various LA actors appear in DR3 besides those just reprising their roles. I would hope that CG AtE has the same situation occur. And totally would love if Cam and Wally appear. Those guys are so infrequent now.
said at 8:19 PM on Sun Oct 30 2016
@Unknownsage13 In general, I would like them to use more LA talent, *especially* seeing as they're getting every show that isnt Aniplex or (arguably, even) Shueisha-owned now, thanks to FUNiRoll/Crunchimation.

That name-dropped LA studio cant get here fast enough..
said at 12:05 AM on Mon Oct 31 2016
@huzaifa_ahmed Well here's my mentality. With alot of the LA dubs I've gotten to this point now where I'm just so used to hearing the same actors working with one another. And while yes, while the pool is growing there will still be alot of same actors working together.

Now then let's look at some of the mixed cast Funimation dubs. Danganronpa 3 once more is what I'll go to. In Future Arc we got several Funimation regulars (Caitlin Glass, Jad Saxton, ect) but then we also got other actors like Erin Fitzgerald and Kaiji Tang that are NEVER in Funimation dubs. Now it was awesome to hear these actors interact with one another.

I've just loved how lately Funimation has been trying harder. Like look at how they have also been bringing in various Sentai regulars lately (Blake Shepard, David Matranga, ect). And it's great to just hear the walls fall down. Cuz honestly, I think that's a big reason why dubs get this stereotype about small actors. We have them all grouped into sections and we'll hear the same actors in certain pools of anime. Whereas in Japan most the recording happens close to each other so we get more mix in casting there. And I'd love if we could get to a point in North America where we can also easily have Canadian and New York actors record in their native countries for shows that will also feature LA and TX actors. Just my overall perspective, though in the end I have no problem with whatever they do!

Btw, what's this about a new LA studio?
said at 2:12 PM on Tue Nov 1 2016
@Unknownsage13 Besides our other conversation..

The breakdown: LA (prelay)>Vancouver>>>>>NY>~LA anime>FUNi>Sentai. Basically.

Problem with FUNi bringing in LA (or, including NYAV, NY) dub VA's is obviously distance...which is what makes Texas cheaper than LA in the first place. A much smaller issue would be pay - not that different, but still a tad lower.

As for *Vancouver*...boy oh boy. Totally different union; far, far away; & *money*, which is why even companies that *used* to use Ocean, dont. I mean they could do a Blue Water dub, but administration/behind-the-scenes stuff keeps that pool from doing as well as it *could*.

& for Vancouver/Texas productions, I've never heard of such a thing. There are Vancouver/LA games & original shows, like Warhammer (probably one of my favorite game casts, RAD, Steve Blum, Brian Drummond, Fred Tatasciore & the Dobson Bros in one game!), MLP: FIM, recent Star Wars stuff, some Marvel OVA's, Fox Spiderman (Toronto reprisals), & Canadian-animated shows with Canadian-born American VA's (lol), like Xiaolin Chronicles.

League of Legends is interesting because it had small, non-union LA & SanFran recording, plus a separate *unionized* Vancouver production...which is weird.

I vastly prefer this site over Reddit, btw.
said at 3:06 PM on Thu Jan 26 2017
@BioZero216 Hay Bio where your source on the dub coming in March? I look all around online and not found nothing. Funimation has yet to post anything about this. Also are the old voice actor coming back for CC and Suzaku and Julius aka Lelouch?
said at 7:20 PM on Thu Jan 26 2017
@Goku3 Well if we do get anyone back I can tell you right now that it's very unlikely for Kate Higgins to be one of them.
said at 6:28 AM on Fri Jan 27 2017
@Goku3 I'm afraid I was wrong. This was so long ago, that I honestly can't remember what my source was.
said at 7:35 AM on Wed Feb 15 2017
@Ichigo341578926 Wrong Kate Higgins is coming back for SURE. She can work on non-union project. Funimation got Stephanie Sheh to come back for Eureka Seven AO. So I can see Funimation getting Kate Higgins coming back as C.C. since there using the English Dub for R1 and R2 that had her as C.C. and AE is in between the events it only make sense to have Kate come back.
said at 7:37 AM on Wed Feb 15 2017
@BioZero216 Damn... I wanted to know when this thing getting English Dub already...
said at 11:42 AM on Wed Feb 15 2017
@Goku3 So, just because they used the ALREADY RECORDED audio from R1 and R2, doesn't mean she will come back for this. She didn't come back to reprise her role when Funimation dubbed Hyperdimension Neptunia the Animation, plus she's been doing anime roles less and less. And as for the Stephanie Sheh thing, Sheh actually had a history of being in Funimation dubs prior to Eureka Seven AO. Such as Darker than Black: Gemini of the Metor's OVA, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Chaos;Head, A Certain Scientific Railgun, Level E, Strike Witches, School Rumble: Extra Class, Eden of the East, and xxxHolic: A Midsummer Night's Dream. Where as Higgins has none.

But, I can say if Funimation ends up outsourcing to L.A. there would be a better chance of her coming back.
said at 2:28 PM on Wed Feb 15 2017
@Ichigo341578926 Uh from what got at Stephanie Sheh has not done that much of any roles for Funimation other then AO. Also Used R1 and R2 of Funimation so it ONLY make sense to being Kate back since in between the Code Geass Series.
said at 3:35 PM on Wed Feb 15 2017
@Goku3 Yeah, and they used the Ocean's dub of Season 1 of Shakugan no Shana. And look what happened with the rest of the series.

The point is if it isn't in the cards, it isn't in the cards. If she chooses to come back she will, if she doesn't want to or can't find the time to fly (or drive) from L.A. to Dallas, like with Neptunia, then she won't come back to voice C.C..

And could you retype the Stephanie Sheh part, I couldn't make out what the point you were trying to get across was? I think you might of accidently forgot some words. These things can happen all the time when typing or texting.
said at 6:22 PM on Wed Feb 15 2017
@Ichigo341578926 "Ocean's dub of Season 1 of Shakugan no Shana" What anime was that??? Also I pretty sure it in the cards. I mean hell that don't have to have her record line in Dallas we the way thing are not that could just send the lines back at LA to record them that are starting to do that now. And since she can work on non union project she could come back... I said Stephanie had not done that much work for Funimation until she came for Eureka Seven AO.
said at 6:38 PM on Wed Feb 15 2017
@Goku3 I see. And Shakugan no Shana was and anime that the first season's dub was out sourced to Oceans studios (a recoding studio in Vancouver Canada) by Geneon entertainment back in 2006. Funimation acquired the rights to the rest of the series after Geneon when out of business. However, when Funimation dubbed Seasons 2, 3, the OVA's, and the Movie for the series they dubbed it at Funimation studios in Dallas Texas in 2012 and 2013. Changing the entire cast for the dub. I used the that series as an example.

And all the series' I listed that were dubbed by Funimation that Stephanie Sheh was in were all the series' that she was in prior to Eureka 7 AO.
said at 8:52 PM on Wed Feb 15 2017
@Ichigo341578926 I knew about Oceans studios (a recording studio in Vancouver Canada) since that when DBZ was 1st English Dub and all but I was asking about just the anime though Shakugan no Shana which I had never heard of before... Anyway that could be a case of it being dub in 2006 Funimation was VERY different back then. Funimation lately had done "some" work in LA believe it or not but back in 2006 that did not but in the last few year that have. Also this would be a different thing vs. the way you are taking how Shakugan no Shana when down. You see Code Geass WHOLE series was dub already not just 1 season. So it very different now. A few year ago when Funimation got right to Black Lagoon that got the whole voice cast to come back to Dub the OVA's in English. So there is a change that Funimation will do the same here for Code Geass AE OVA...
said at 11:05 PM on Wed Feb 15 2017
@Goku3 I know about all that stuff with Black Lagoon and DBZ (though the DBZ one I only found out about last year (Which is sad since I was alive and was old enough to remember those things back when the 1st dub started. Though I didn't watch it till it was put on Toonami back in 1998)). I just wasn't sure you did when I mentioned about Shana. And the Shana thing was more me giving an example of Funimation not getting the original cast back than me saying it was a similar situation to this. Actually from what I've gotten with that situation they didn't outsource to Oceans for the rest because the Japanese company took to long sending them the series and decided that the fans had waited long enough for the dub of season 2, and it would be quicker for them to dub it them selves. Though at the moment I've only seen that as being a rumor. I have no idea if that is true or not.

All in all if Kate Higgins comes back that will be great, but if she doesn't we'll all unfortunately have to deal with it. Maybe she will, maybe she won't. It all really depends on if she can or even wants to come back. My statement about her not coming back was mostly based on the fact that she did not reprise ONE role for a Funimation dub 2 years ago where they got all but her Sandy Fox and Michelle Ruff back. So what do I know? For all I know that might have been a special situation where she wasn't able to come back, or maybe didn't care enough about the role to come back. My point is take my comment about her not coming back with a grain of salt, because I might be right but I just as easily could be wrong.
said at 8:16 AM on Thu Feb 16 2017
@Ichigo341578926 We will see I really hope that can get her on board this time around. There only 3 return people coning back for the Code Geass AE OVA and she 1 C.C. one of then and I can't see anyone else doing that role other then Kate Higgins...
