Big kudos to this dub being unionized it's rare to see Kari and Roger in new anime.

@Girlygeek43 For a Netflix anime that is and hope to see some anime series from Netflix get the Union treatment and have these series dubbed at other studios in LA other than Bang Zoom just like they did it with Aggretsuko.

Also, Kari Wahlgren always tends to be in EVERY unionized anime production.

@DisneyAnimefan1995 You've got that right, rule of thumb is that if Kari Wahlgren is in the show it's 100% backed by the union.

Is this technically Misty Lee's first actual anime role? I know she worked with Patrick Seitz since Fire Emblem Heroes and Warriors.

@King Marth 64 Yes it is.

On the one hand regarding Sanrio, you've got Hello Kitty and Jewelpet, and then on the other side of the spectrum there's... Aggressive Retsuko, which appeals more to the teen and adult demographic??? Granted, Show by Rock fits that bill, too, but wowzers. This franchise has also become something of a hit with dm communities, particularly in the West. So with all the hype and talk surrounding Aggretsuko, I sat down around the tail end of April to watch both the subbed and dubbed versions of the Netflix adaptation.

Despite its cute aesthetic that's typical of most Sanrio properties, Aggretsuko is notably more cynical in tone compared to those, not to mention *very* relatable to folks who have to make ends meet and put up with issues that go on at the workplace. The anime even tackles the mundane bits of everyday life. Whilst I already stated the show has a biting edge to it, it's not 100% depressing, plus it isn't without comedy or any heartwarming scenes for that matter.

As for my own personal thoughts on Aggretsuko, I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed nearly ever moment. For being 10 episodes right now and each of them lasting 15 minutes, a lot of those individual episodes are dense content-wise. I won't go out of my way to call this the deepest **** since cake, but Rarecho's writing may definitely astonish the viewers in some fashion or another. Topped with a majorly entertaining set of characters, fluid Flash animation and pretty fun (albeit inauthentic) death metal segments, you could say that Aggretsuko's a ton of things except either bland, boring, or a combo of the two.

It also doesn't hurt that the voice acting for both the Japanese and English dubs are great. Concerning the latter, Patrick Seitz did a nice job with the VD *and* the script translation, while the voice cast did extremely well handling their characters; Josh Petersdorf as Director Ton, Katelyn Gault's Fenneko, and Jamison Boaz's Retsuko (death metal ver.) were huge highlights IMO. Ben Diskin somehow managed to make Haida sound even more adorkable than he already was. Honestly the only stinker was Gina Bowes' Gori, mainly in the sense that the voice she used for the character has uhh... unfortunate implications behind it. GK otherwise did super fine with tackling Tsunoda. Special props for unionizing the English track as well.

Overall I feel a strong 8 in regards to Aggretsuko.

Watched this one incarnation of the series and I gotta say, I am super glad that this exists and has the cast that it does.

@Troodon2 Agree with Roger Craig Smith, and he was recently in "Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress" earlier this year.

And Kari Wahlgren will always appear in anime as long as it's a unionized production.

It’s rather nice that Kari Wahlgren, Roger Craig Smith, GK Bowes and Tara Platt are in this dub... and one directed by Patrick Seitz too which is not usual for these actors to appear in.

@RetroPokeFan Tara Platt had been in Monster
said at 4:22 AM on Fri Apr 27 2018
@ShigyC That and Roger Craig Smith was in SoulCalibur V too to voice one of the characters and reprise his role as Esio Auditore from Assassin's Creed.

@RetroPokeFan Roger's other recent anime before this was Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress.

It will always be a mystery for me what the parameters are for deciding whether an anime is union or not. Having said that, really funny series.

@numbuh34 she was busy with her child that`s why she was absent in voiceover for a while.

@Abdullab I already know about that

@Abdullab I have a nephew. So I understand totally.
said at 12:13 PM on Sun Apr 22 2018
@Abdullab This also would explain why she didn't reprised her role as Seri Awashima in the "K: Missing Kings" film and the "K: Return of Kings" dub where instead she was voiced by Carrie Keranen.

Still it's nice to hear Tara Platt in a new anime role again, given that the majority of her typecasts/roles she would've been cast as have been assumed by the likes of Carrie Keranen, Laura Post, Erica Lindbeck and recently Allegra Clark.

@numbuh34 Hopefully, this means she'll reprise Mitsuru in Dancing Moon Night.

@BioZero216 And Elizabeth. But yeah I hope she returns as Mitsuru as well. I also hope that she'll get Vert back one day but that's another story.

After taking a look at this show I can honestly say that Retsuko is my favorite Erica Mendez role to date. She's just so fun to watch here! Also kudos to Netflix for unionizing this.

A fantastic and absolutely hilarious show for anyone who can relate to hating your job, getting through the daily grind and venting your frustrations. The death metal segments are brilliant, especially if you try to sing along.

The dub is great too. So nice to see such a mix of faces (including a couple totally new to anime, I don't think anyone expected Overwatch's Roadhog to be in this which makes his casting rather clever) and it seems to be Netflix's first union anime dub to boot (as much as I wished Fate/Apocrypha took that title). All in all, a short but fun time.
