NEWS - Thundercats Roar Announced
Reported by NCZ on Fri May 18 2018

After their anime-influenced reboot series was cancelled, they are back on Cartoon Network with an all-new series that will go in a little harder on comedy.

I am of course referring to Thundercats, who will return next year in Thundercats Roar.

The voice cast is as follows:

The summary for the series is as follows: “Staying true to the premise of the original series, Lion-O and the ThunderCats — Tygra, Panthro, Cheetara, Wilykat, and Wilykit — barely escape the sudden destruction of their home world, Thundera, only to crash land on the mysterious and exotic planet of Third Earth. Lion-O, the newly appointed Lord of the ThunderCats, attempts to lead the team as they make this planet their new home. A bizarre host of creatures and villains stand in their way, including the evil Mumm-Ra, Third Earth’s wicked ruler who will let nothing, including the ThunderCats, stop his tyrannical reign over the planet.”

Producer Victor Coutright has this to say. “I think the world that they built lends itself really well to comedy because of how silly and crazy and outlandish those ideas are and some of those settings are. But at the same time, it wouldn’t be ThunderCats if it didn’t have super cool action elements because that’s what people came back to. It’s very much something that we want to lean on. So with the new show, we’re not walking away from the action in any bit. Every step we take towards comedy, we take two more towards really cool action scenes and explosions and lasers and actions effects.”

Thundercats Roar joins CN's lineup at some point in 2019.

 1 Shout Out!
This reboot is getting a lot of backlash and I will be giving this one a chance.

Voice casting looks interesting, since they all done anime work before, which I approve seeing more of in western animation.

While I have neutral feelings on the artstyle, seeing as I haven't seen the other Thundercats all that much, the fact that mostly dub Anime VA's are leads in this show is rather interesting. The animation at some points is really smooth too.

That being said, the way people are going at this, both the critics and the defenders, are going way too far.

Honestly the animation looks fine to me, looks like it could have a lot of energy and such.
Also, its Thundercats...either this show comes out or nothing at.

Look.... I get that this animation is the new thing and it's probably cheaper and all that good business stuff but I would so much prefer it if they just made more original stuff and just leave these things in the past.
I get it! Nostalgia sells and **** but god damn it I wish we just moved forward more and saw what these new artists could make with more creative freedom.
Unless it's a very passionate reboot I'd prefer it's left alone.

I'm not going to claim that the 2011 Show was Perfect, but going for an All Comedy Reboot seems really homogeneous and Lazy for a return to this franchise.

I can't help but but feel that
Max Mittelman, Erica Lindbeck, Chris Jai Alex and Especially Patrick Seitz's talents will be wasted on cheap and Obnoxious Humour.

@batcool

Yes, threatening violence over children's cartoons is a great way to make your voice heard.

@batcool I can understand the frustration (believe me I can relate) but violence doesn't solve anything.

businesses can make some very distasteful decisions, but sometimes it's best we either gloss over them and turn our interests elsewhere or we try to make something better out of it in the future.

@Soul-dragon We'll just have to wait and see if it will change over time. It doesn't look half-bad though but, that's just my personal opinion.

Kinda wondering why they didn't just bring back the 2011 series for another season if they knew there was interest in the brand again.

Wow Max,Erica,Chris and Patrick.I may just have to watch this because there in it.I didn't get to watch much of the 2011 series(which I regret) due to what time it was on and I was just getting back into cartoon network. The art style kind looks like the OK KO style with a bit Unikitty in it...will we'll see what kind of humor this show has when it airs(I just hope it don't go the way of TTGO and try to get the fans of the 2011 and original angry,I hate those kind of episodes)

Okay, this has been going on for a while, I'm really really sick of every Cartoon made by the same animators.
Every new cartoon has the same artstyle and design aside from of Villanous, Gumball and TTG I guess.
Do you remember 16 years ago were they made a city were every cartoon new and old live at? And every one of them have different artstyles but its really cool to see them together? ? Good times.

@ErronDio There is the CGI cartoons(some of them have different styles),the ducktales reboot kind of has a new kind of comic book style to it,the marvel cartoons all have different styles, star kind has it's own style,Steven universe has it's own style so does Rick and Morty,Adventure time, those star wars shorts and other stuff. The creator of this reboot probably wanted to use this style cause he thought it would fit the show and plus cartoon network has so many animators sooooooo....

@Amberdoll *cartoon network only has so many animators* (Sorry I typed this out without double checking everything)

... I... uh...

... this style looks exactly the same as everything else CN is making these days. I mean... maybe it can work but, atm, the art design looks, well, BLAND.

I know some people say the same about the 2011 series, but I feel like it, by comparison, tried a lot harder to create an interesting aesthetic than... rehashing... Clarence's artistic style, it feels?

Ehhhh, not really digging the art style at all to be honest. Out of all the classic cartoons to pick a show like Thundercats doesn't really lend itself well though I'm sure it'll look better in terms of actual animation.

The voice cast is fantastic though, not gonna lie about that. Love seeing anime talent getting involved in western stuff and Warner's been putting them to pretty good use recently.

"Let's reboot EVERY action show into a comedy! Why not?!"

The character designs look cute, though--I really like it. I just hope this doesn't turn into another...you-know-what.

@MasterBlaster Liking the cast so far, too. Not every day that non-union anime actors get to work on a pre-lay series.

...Assuming that this is pre-lay, of course.

@MasterBlaster Definitely a great cast indeed. Love seeing anime VA's show up in western produced stuff as it really gets to show their voicing skills and even get them casting in roles we wouldn't normally see them do.

Be Cool Scooby Doo is a perfect example of that and even the DC Animated Movies have been using them too.
