PS4 Remaster of Yakuza 4 Recasts Tanimura

The upcoming PS4 remaster of Yakuza 4, originally released in 2010, will recast the voice and likeness of one of the game's main playable characters, Masayoshi Tanimura.

Tanimura was originally played by Japanese film and TV actor Hiroki Narimiya, and his appearance was based on him as well. Narimiya is well known outside Japan for playing Phoenix Wright in the live-action Ace Attorney movie, and reprised the role in VO for Professor Layton VS Phoenix Wright. In 2016, Narimiya was forced to retire from the entertainment industry due to allegations of drug use in tabloids, along with having his sexuality outed. Although the drug allegations were likely falsified, he has not acted since. Since Sega needed new dialogue to be recorded for the game anyway, they have replaced his performance entirely with VA Toshiki Masuda.

The remastered version of Yakuza 4 hits Japanese PS4s on January 17, 2019.
