Ben Schwartz On Landing The Role of Sonic

It was announced recently that Parks & Recreation actor Ben Schwartz landed the role of Sonic the Hedgehog in the upcoming CG/live-action film.

In a short Twitter interview, Schwartz talked about how long and hard he fought to get the role.

The process of me getting Sonic was a long one, a really long one. It started about a year ago. The director, Jeff [Fowler] called me, and he said, ‘You know, the role is yours.’ I did a Tiger Woods - like, fist pumps, and then looked around because I was out in the open, that one was a... I put in a lot of work to get that one. I really wanted it, so I was very, very excited.

In the past year, Schwartz has earned his wings as a voice actor, claiming top tier roles like Dewey from the DuckTales reboot, Leonardo in the new Rise of the TMNT and now SEGA's mascot.

The Sonic film has also tapped James Marsden and Jim Carrey in live roles, with Carrey set to play Sonic's archenemy Dr. Robotnik.

Paramount Pictures' Sonic the Hedgehog has a release date of November 15th 2019.
