The movie for me was a little lackluster. I do appreciate its influence over the Alpha series later on but....

First of all, I feel incredibly bummed by the minimal screentime of some characters. I understand each character has a wide story to tell but it's so sad that characters like Blanka, Dhalsim and Zangief had nothing else to do. I want to at least see how they are involved with Shadaloo.

As for characters like Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li and Guile. Um.... They were fine I guess. Ryu was fine as the story went along. I didn't connect with the characters too much. I did like what E.Honda did in this movie however.... I kind of see him and Ryu as bros in representing their country. Honda was perhaps my favorite character in the movie since he has all these comedic mishaps happen to him.

The villains had a little more going on. Bison was a little scary at times and Vega was creepy and added a lot of tension. In fact, I want to see Vega a lot more in this movie.

Balrog, I couldn't care less for since he's just a greedy guy. Sagat on the other hand.... Man.... There's no resolution for his hatred to Ryu.

On the bright side, the animation was splendidly fluid and the voice acting was serviceable. The animation helps out when the fighting goes down. I enjoyed ones such as Ryu vs Fei-Long or Ryu vs Guile. Those were my favorite and yes... I know there's that Chun-Li fanservice fight which um was tense and so.

So overall, I guess if the characters were a lot stronger then this would be much more of a movie for me.

Good movie(although many characters got negligible screentime), very good voice acting(although I did think most of the voice actors sounded better/had better replacements in II V) although I did think Ken, Cammy(though Debra did improve in II V) and Eliza sounds pretty blah

 2 Shout Outs!
To this day, this movie is still probably the finest example of a video game adaptation done right.

The animation is fantastic. The artwork is detailed, and manages to pop with style without compromising the movie's somewhat dark, grounded tone. One of the most impressive things about the movie is that it manages to incorporate all 16 characters from Super Street Fighter II without feeling contrived. All of them fit naturally into the storyline, and the characterization is spot on. Street Fighter's storyline hasn't always been its strong suit. What the movie does well is recognizing that, and instead going for simplicity. By doing so, it captures the game's spirit very well and manages to create a ride that, while not really revolutionary, is nonetheless refreshing in its no-frills, straight-to-the-point execution.

The combat is probably the most memorable part of the movie. Professional K1 fighters Kazuyoshi Ishii and Andy Hug served as martial art supervisors, and it shows. The battles are gripping, realistic, tense, fluid, and exciting. The apartment battle between Chun Li and Vega is still one of my all-time favourite anime fight scenes and I can still replay it in my head clearly.

You want to know how good this movie was? Capcom themselves were inspired by it to make the Alpha series. The hidden Dramatic Battle in Alpha 1 is a re-enactment of the final battle against M. Bison. The Australian lightning plain stage in Alpha 2 where Ryu and Sagat fight was directly based on the movie's opening sequence. The overall anime-esque look, serious atmosphere, and focus on storytelling in the Alpha series no doubt seemed to be inspired by the ground laid by the animated movie, and as a result we got some of the most important and influential additions to the SF mythos.

Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie, is not only a must-see for Street Fighter fans, but I also recommend it to anime fans in general.
