I honestly feel bad about how this film was treated, both in marketing and reception.

Yeah it was nothing spectacular, nothing great, but I didn't really think it was that bad a movie. It had good elements, and it was perhaps the most faithful video game based movie I seen thus far.

Maybe this would have worked better as a direct-to-dvd movie or even something on Nickelodeon, CN, or perhaps even Netflix.

All in all, I did enjoy it for what it is, but I do agree it could have been much better handled.

@Troodon2 Netflix may seem like a better option, but with Blu-Ray Disc came out in other stores, but other than that i agree.

Alessandro Juhani was super to play character name Stig, but they cut his role. Shame it would have been cool if he had a bigger role.
It was nice hearing Brad Swaile and many of the other talented Canadian voice actors

Outside of a couple good performances, this is one of the most generic animated films I've seen. It's not bad, theirs just absolutely nothing that stands out about it.

Animation's okay
Voice Work is okay
Writing is okay

It's just a kind of by the books animated sci-fi comedy.

It was pretty underwhelming, but I am glad I saw it.

The reviews are kind of mixed at the moment, but I really thought that this movie was great. It had a FAR smaller budget than most animated features, and is in a niche that is almost always doomed to fail (video game-movie adaptations), but it's very enjoyable.

@solidejake Haven't seen the movie myself yet (and won't for a long time, since this will only get straight-to-dvd release in Finland), so can't really argue its quality (I do wish that it's good, since I love the games), but I feel that forgiving some of the shortcomings just because video game movies usually suck, isn't really the best of arguments. I just personally feel that kinda of attitude encourages people not to take the genre seriously and that rarely leads to good movies being made anytime soon.

People used to write superhero movies off, because almost every superhero movie at the time was awful, but now we are living the golden age of superhero movies. I'm sure that video game movies can breakthrough just like superheroes, once the right people start adapting the right games the right way ;)

@The Doctor Only problem is that wasn't my argument whatsoever. I would just give it bonus points for being as good as I thought it was while also being video game movie. I thought it was great independent of what it is based on. So yeah, not my attitude on it ;)

I work at a movie theater, and we have a big standee for this film. It was so cool seeing James Arnold Taylor and David Kaye's names with the big celebs at the top!

And sadly nobody came to see it. They're kicking it out after just 2 weeks. Pretty sad since we have 16 screens.

Ratchet got his movie.
Sly's getting his movie soon.

@Lpfan120 Not to mention Crash and Spyro (Which they should return in a form of classic only slightly detailed just slightly) with plenty other character that only plays like the classic and not brawler like.

@SteelEthlan Mark my words, they'll get one too. But that's assuming we ever get the Sly movie that's been quiet since the Teaser. In case you didn't know, someone (Kevin Munroe I think) put on his LinkdIn that he was in charge of Heavenly Sword, Ratchet, Sly, and Jak movies, well before any of them were announced. 3/4 of those are out/announced, so it's only a matter of time.
said at 2:08 PM on Mon Apr 25 2016
Sly is still waiting to be green lit. My guess is that they're waiting to see how well Ratchet does first.

Looking at this film and Warcraft makes me think, "Alright, these theatrical movies have potential to revolutionise video game movies and show they can be great."

Right now, Mortal Kombat still holds the title of best video game movie for more than a decade for understanding its core values. That or some of the direct-to-video ones like the Resident Evil film.

Man, if this movie is a success, it could really help boost the concept of "veteran VAs as the leads" for theatrical movies.

@TylerMirage oh man yes. It's been something I've been wanting a lot in animated films

@TylerMirage Only problem is they still kinda went the whole "Celebrity Voice" anyways. I have no clue what Drek is going to be like, because he used to be KMR, but now he's Paul Giamatti.
The Doctor
said at 1:27 AM on Thu May 14 2015
@TylerMirage While I would love that, the marketing will probably focus on the celebrities and if/when the movie is success, the studio isn't going to thank Taylor, Kaye or Ward for that.

@solidejake I'm not denying that they ended up going with celebrity voices to some extent. I'm just pointing out that at least the MAIN characters are veteran VAs while the SUPPORTING cast was celebrities. Casting celebrities is almost unavoidable these days with big animated films. But this movie is already ahead of pretty much any Pixar or Dreamworks animated film (in the VO department) since the title characters are the veteran VAs. :D

Plus, even though they did cast celebrities, at least several of them are talented actors and voice actors, too. Is anyone going to complain about John Goodman's casting on the whole "wah blah celebrities!"-angle? Probably not, because he is an awesome voice actor, regardless of celebrity status. Same applies to Paul.

@The Doctor Oh, yeah, there's guaranteed to be the articles that advertise the film solely with the names of Stallone, Goodman and Giamatti, without even mentioning JAT, Kaye and Ward. There's no escaping that, unfortunately. :(

Really glad Dr. Nefarious is in this. Love that guy, especially since Armin Shimerman is back! Kind of weird, since this was supposed to be based on the first game, but I'll take it.
said at 12:01 PM on Wed May 13 2015
@NCZ I'm guessing he'll only make a cameo to set him up for a sequel.

@D.A.V.E. Yeah, Nefarious will probably be a minor role. The movie might be too bloated otherwise.

@NCZ Don't tell anyone, but I know what the after-the-credits scene of this movie is. It goes something like this:

*Nefarious sits in his chair, while Lawrence tells him about Ratchet and co. defeating Drek*
Lawrence: To challenge them, is to court... Death.
*Nefarious turns around and smiles*

There's also quick gag about Ratchet and Clank eating shawarma.

@The Doctor Whoa, I thought for a second this would say the movie was cancelled or something. Phew...

While it does make me sad that Kevin Michael Richardson won't be voicing Drek, I'm still interested in seeing what they're bringing to this new version of the character. Drek... wasn't a very interesting villain overall, at least in my opinion. He was just kind of a generic "greedy corporate d-bag" with an evil scheme (Kevin's performance was actually the one thing that really made him at all memorable, IMO), so them hiring a new actor who will probably fit that characterization better doesn't bother me too much.

However, I do have to wonder if this new character version of the character isn't one that Kevin could have done really well if he just changed his voice to fit the character's new personality. Still, this doesn't bother me that much.

Also, if you look in the comments section on that article, there was a link to this tweet: https://twitter.com/BradFoxhoven/status/541083048125952002

So it looks like Kevin's still going to have a part in the movie. Overall, I remain optimistic.

What happened to this movie? We haven't heard any updates about it since November of last year and we still have no release date. It was said March this year yet we have no TV spots or any more real information outside of the two trailers, some crew, and a poster.

@skeletonking1234 The reason they were quiet about it for so long was because they were having trouble finding a distributor. The movie has been largely done for a while now. Though the distributor troubles mean it's going to be delayed until April 2016 and take the tie-in game with it. OOPS.
