 1 Shout Out!
Just watched it. It was great! Hopefully we get news on Return of Kings getting dubbed in near future.

@Unknownsage13 Viz Media mentioned at a recent convention panel that they plan to release Return of Kings sometime soon this year.

Hopefully the release isn't too far off. (I still have to wait till June to see Missing Kings since that's when it's out in Australia)

Rejoice everyone! We finally have a release date: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N32YVED

Now let's hope S2 isn't too far after.

So is K a union dub? I always was under the impression Quinton Flynn was a union only actor.
said at 1:25 PM on Tue Oct 11 2016
@mweloo He was in several other games which are non-union, like League of Legends & the recent Sonic games. The Tenchu dubs might've also been non-union IIRC.

I think he's a bit like DC Douglas (who is openly financial core), who has no qualms with taking non-union contracts, but simply doesn't wish to involve himself with anime dubs as they pay pretty atrociously for someone who's doing voice-over professionally. Unions aside, it's why very few people even do anime.

As a side note, I think he's said on a panel with Maile Flanagan & Phil LaMarr that he prefers the ensemble record of original animation over the near-universal solo record for foreign-dubs & most ADR in general.

@huzaifa_ahmed I see voice actors like Johnny Yong Bosch, Todd haberkorn mostly doing anime. But they're also in some union. Does that make them Fi-Core? Or am I wrong?
said at 12:53 PM on Sun Oct 23 2016
@DeathGod46 I think that, if theyre open about those non-union projects, that's the general assumption. A few people from back then, who used pseudonyms (as everyone did, have stopped now, & only do union stuff. Steve Blum especially, due to becoming A-list, but also someone like Bridget Hoffman who is much smaller, seems to do union work only, dubs included.

My assumption is that working "off-the-card" is hard to do now that imDB & the Internet can easily identify you. However, I am not that well-educated on the subject, & in fact financial core is technicly intended for those who disagree with union politics, & "working non-union" is a loophole. I personally wish that no decent-selling anime were dubbed below at least the union's dubbing rate (which is intended to be fair & affordable), but financial-core itself is a controversial opinion & an actors' union status is certainly a controversial one.

(TLDR definitely the most plausible explanation, but *shh*)

While I'm a little sad that Tara Platt couldn't reprise, Carrie Keranen should do a good job as Seri. The cast looks solid, and I'm always a fan of Studiopolis dubs. Hearing more from Chris Hackney, Cherami Leigh, and Janice Kawaye is great.

Good to see Quinton Flynn here too! Kotosaka is a fairly small/dumb role, but still, it's nice to hear him in another anime dub.

Looking to be another solid dub, so the movie merits a rewatch from me.

@SNaG btw, Tara gave birth back in July, so it might've been why she didnt come back. I'm sure she'd have liked to, although in general she has stated that she has been working on more live-action stuff...which pays more than even non-primetime Hollywood VO, so it's a pretty heavy priority over anime most probably.

Well I'm happy that Viz is finally moving along with the K series and it's nice to see almost everyone come back. Carrie Keranen and Janice Kawaye (been a while since we've heard from her eh? Or not that along considering Gargantia and Love Live...) should do fine as Seri and Kukuri.

And the new cast members for the Green Clan are pretty great too. We got Quinton Flynn's first new anime role in years and it's nice to see Chris Hackney land another major role after Illumi in Hunter x Hunter. Guess all that remains is a dub cast for S2 and to see who voices the remaining new roles of Sukuna Gojo, Tenkei Iwafune and Goki Zenjo.

Hey does anyone know when the movie will have a dub. I want to know. Also I am kind of heartbroken that Tara Platt was replaced for Seri Awashima. One of the best parts for the dub OMI was her.

@4xNicholas Nothing on a release date yet, Viz only announced the English cast and crew so far. Hopefully we'll get more info soonish, including a release for S2.

@JRPictures I just want to know, where was the information from? Can anyone give me the URL?

And a tweet from Viz's panel if that's not proof enough: https://twitter.com/Kami_nomi/status/784422127361556481?lang=en

Hmm. I wonder why Tara Platt got replaced?
said at 1:30 PM on Fri Oct 7 2016
@Gracie Jeanie Moore Yeah, good question. Maybe she and Yuri are prioritizing their independent projects now.
said at 11:13 AM on Sat Oct 8 2016
@Gracie Jeanie Moore she never really was too big in anime. I'm gonna guess she had other stuff going on and probably doesn't plan to be involved in anime industry much longer. This would also explain why her role as Castor was recast.
said at 8:01 AM on Fri Dec 9 2016
@Gracie Jeanie Moore and @SNaG It obviously had to do with that Tara's been busy on several projects mainly the Independent live-action shorts (Topsy McGee) with Yuri Lowenthal. In addition, Tara recently had her first child since July, so perhaps she's in the same boat as Liam O'Brien having to limit her presence in dubbing and more into projects that pay better.
said at 8:06 AM on Fri Dec 9 2016
@Unknownsage13 I don't think so, she doesn't mind doing anime and doesn't mind doing it, but admits she find doing original animation having more freedom.

Also, I don't think she's in the level as Troy Baker, Laura Bailey and Travis Willingham, since the majority of her work outside of anime has been mainly doing live-action projects with her husband Yuri Lowenthal, along with the occasional video game. Lastly, Tara and Yuri just recently welcomed her first child since July.

I'm not the hugest fan of K but the dub was solid and the movie was probably the best part of the franchise that's out now. Hope Viz finally dubs it.
said at 11:45 PM on Tue Sep 13 2016
@SNaG Yeah Viz has been sitting on this movie and S2 for awhile now, though they were cool enough to stream the movie legally before S2 came out even though they hadn't dubbed or released it yet.

I know Hunter x Hunter, One Punch Man & Jojo take some priority thanks to Toonami and stuff but I've been waiting forever on Viz to announce release dates for the rest of K.
said at 7:32 AM on Wed Sep 14 2016
@JRPictures Honestly, those also sell more and have the potential to become huge sellers in the US along with their manga. K's just probably in Viz's back pocket to dub when they have a bit of a lull, since they're being aggressive right now.
said at 9:22 AM on Fri Oct 7 2016
@SNaG Well the dub cast was just announced http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2016-10-07/viz-reveals-english-dub-cast-for-k-missing-kings-film/.107390

@JRPictures Not to mention them focusing on Sailor Moon, and their Manga department!!
said at 1:29 PM on Tue Oct 11 2016
@SNaG No offense to the dubs of OPM & HxH - they're just dandy - but if those shows had potential to become such big sellers & are on the top of Viz's priority list...why did we get such a typical low-budget dub?

I mean, are they really *that* strapped for cash? Considering that dubbing (after paying for the license) is the biggest part of the operation, I'm not sure why they wouldn't go the extra mile on the *biggest properties on the market*.

Then again, massive franchises like Pokemon & DBZ pay very low per-session fees with 0 residuals, so yeah...
said at 1:30 PM on Tue Oct 11 2016
@SNaG btw I know I sound kind of mad. Rest assured I'm not mad at anyone in particular, lol.
said at 6:30 PM on Tue Oct 11 2016
@huzaifa_ahmed Nah, you just like to complain about low budget and non-union dubs whenever the opportunity arises.

You can question why Viz did the HxH and OPM dubs the way they did, but you just have to deal with it in the end.
