I thought these TDKR movies were good, but I'm not gonna lie, while Peter Weller was good, I would have preferred Michael Ironside to reprise the role.

Part 2 of Dark Knight Returns is brilliant climax got to the animation, writing, and the voice cast including Michael Emerson as The Joker plus an awesome fight between Batman and Superman

I have a slight schadenfreude moment when Dr. Wolper is giving his well-meaning, but misguided speech about the Joker being a victim and not responsible for any of the murders he committed, and that Batman is the real psycho, and you can see the Joker's eyes going, "Aaaaaaand we're done..."

 2 Shout Outs!
It had severely distracting plot holes and a few really stupid moments, but it's good dark escapism if you're feeling miserable and need to vent out negative feelings.

 2 Shout Outs!
(sigh) This movie was a let-down for me for so many reasons.

The first movie had a unique art style, nice themes and symbolism, and knew just where and what it needed to be: a Batman story, no more and no less. THIS movie, on the other hand, tries to be a crossover and doesn't do that good a job with it. Add in the political stuff that takes away a LOT with constant attacks toward whatever wing is in power at the time and it feels even more contrived.

Superman...the fight between him and Batman has some good moments, but it's very obvious that Frank Miller doesn't understand the Man of Steel and portrays him as the government's attack dog. What's worse is that fans always seem to point to this as the strongest evidence that Batman can beat Supes...even though Batman needs prep-time, outside help, AND kryptonite to do so. Even THEN he gets most of the bones in his body broken and passes out, but people STILL chalk that up for "winning".

The only parts of the movie that I really enjoyed were the scenes with the Joker. Mike Emerson did a great job portraying him, channeling a little Heath Ledger into his performance, and the battle between him and Batman is a very good one. But that's not enough to make me like the movie as a whole.

I highly recommend the first one, but you won't be missing that much if you give this one a pass.
