Description:
My final project for next year is to write and direct a 40 minute play. I decided to do an adaptation of “The Count of Monte Cristo” by Alexandre Dumas, as it’s one of my favorite books of all time. I’ve posted this on here so that I can get a feel of how the play is running, the pacing, timing, the lines, and feel of it. As I can’t start real life auditions until November of this year, I thought I’d give it a try on here. I want to do a whole run through, with the added music and sound effects that will be edited in by me. You’ll get a copy of the entire thing and a special thanks listed in the program.

Please, have at least a somewhat decent microphone. It doesn’t have to be professional, but it shouldn’t sound like your talking into a potato.

We will be doing weekly to bi-weekly cast meetups on either discord or skype. This is to act out scenes together or ask questions and discuss. So, please make sure that you will not have a very busy schedule and that you have either of the applications listed above.

If you have any questions and concerns that I did not address, please feel free to comment down below or contact me on the contact details listed above.

Thank you so much for reading and I wish you the best of luck. And, I hope you consider giving this project a shot. Break a leg at auditions!

Edmond Dantes/The Count of Monte Cristo

NO
IMAGE
Name: Edmond Dantes/The Count of Monte Cristo
Gender: Male
Age: Adult
Characteristics/Notes:
Character Age: 19 (past); 42. Young Dantes should have a more medium pitch voice. While, the Count, should have a deep sultry one. I want to see a range that is heavily present within the character himself. From a bright, bubbly, and naive young man to a cold, calculating revenge machine to the wise, regretful side.
You need to be to audition. If you do not have an account, please click here to register.
Audition Lines:
Line 1:
"I ran all the way to the Notary. For the wedding license. I have been made Captain of The Pharaon, Mercedes. Will you be a Captain’s wife?"
Line 2:
"No, Monsieur, death is no punishment. Death is the release. True justice, on this earth, is nothing more nor less than the protracted application of equal and appropriate pain. One might, for example, kill the son in order to destroy the father. (Chuckles.) But forgive me. I have distracted you for too long."
Line 3:
"Oh God, fool that I am! What have I done? I have lost the thing I most wanted! I have buried myself deeper in hate than ever I was buried in the Chateau d’If. If it is only the dead who leave the Chateau d’If, then why did I have to live?! Only the dead... (Realization:) Only the dead!"

Gerard de Villefort

NO
IMAGE
Name: Gerard de Villefort
Gender: Male
Age: Adult
Characteristics/Notes:
Character Age: 23 (past); 46. De Villefort's voice lands about medium. Being ambitious, he comes off as a very pompous and arrogant individual. And, it should be heard in his manner of speaking. The voice actor should also be able to pull off going insane.
You need to be to audition. If you do not have an account, please click here to register.
Audition Lines:
Line 1:
"If the truth were told, were I to start over, I might seek for a somewhat less gloomy occupation than serving justice."

Benedetto Bertuccio

NO
IMAGE
Name: Benedetto Bertuccio
Gender: Male
Age: Young Adult
Characteristics/Notes:
Character Age: 21. Voice is around medium. He has about the same air to himself as his father, Gerard de Villefort. He just has a few more screws loose than his father. A wild card who is the embodiment of chaos himself. His voice should be similar to Gerard, but raspier.
You need to be to audition. If you do not have an account, please click here to register.
Audition Lines:
Line 1:
"(Repeating unenthusiastically:) I am Andrea, Marquis Cavalcanti. My family is probably the oldest, the noblest, and undoubtedly the richest in all Italy."
Line 2:
"I tell you I didn’t steal the old crow’s necklace. For God’s sake why should I? I had it made with Eugenie. I never even saw the damn thing until it fell out of my coat."

"Fernand, I don’t care whether Mercedes marries you, Edmond, or Napoleon Bonaparte himself. All I care about is that Dantes never becomes Captain of The Pharaon."

HELP
  FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
• Why does my MP3 not upload?
We understand that some users are getting errors when uploading MP3 files. Certain encodings will not be compatible with the upload code. Originally Audacity saved MP3s worked at the time Casting Call was written. However the software may have changed the way it saves MP3s. At an unknown future time, the process will change where auditions will be recorded and saved directly on the site. In the meantime, please ask fellow members who have success with MP3 uploads how they are saving/encoding their files. Thanks and apologies for the inconvenience.
• Why is there a limit to 4 active projects per member?
While a project owner is welcome to have as many active projects running as they wish outside BTVA, the limit is imposed because having too many active projects can be somewhat "unrealistic". We want those who are auditioning to feel that each project is getting the attention and quality it deserves given auditioners themselves are putting in their own time and effort. Once a project owner flags a project as "Completed", they are welcome to create a new project.
• Can I audition more than once for a character?
The system is built to allow ONE audition per character. This is to avoid having a number of auditions from the same member and making the project owner have to listen to all of them. For now, if you or the project owner wishes you to submit another audition, the project owner will need to "Delete" your audition. The project owner can do this in the "Edit Character/Manage Auditions" link.
• How do I flag a character as being Cast?
As a project owner you will see a "Edit Character/Manage Auditions" link for each character. Clicking it will allow you to Cast, Backup or Pass an audition. Casting a character will prevent new auditions from being submitted for that character.
• Why do I need a valid email address?
If you audition for a project and are cast in a role, you will notified by email.
• How do I contact members cast for a project?
You can contact members using Private Messaging feature available here in the forums.
