Description:
My final project for next year is to write and direct a 40 minute play. I decided to do an adaptation of “The Count of Monte Cristo” by Alexandre Dumas, as it’s one of my favorite books of all time. I’ve posted this on here so that I can get a feel of how the play is running, the pacing, timing, the lines, and feel of it. As I can’t start real life auditions until November of this year, I thought I’d give it a try on here. I want to do a whole run through, with the added music and sound effects that will be edited in by me. You’ll get a copy of the entire thing and a special thanks listed in the program. Please, have at least a somewhat decent microphone. It doesn’t have to be professional, but it shouldn’t sound like your talking into a potato. We will be doing weekly to bi-weekly cast meetups on either discord or skype. This is to act out scenes together or ask questions and discuss. So, please make sure that you will not have a very busy schedule and that you have either of the applications listed above. If you have any questions and concerns that I did not address, please feel free to comment down below or contact me on the contact details listed above. Thank you so much for reading and I wish you the best of luck. And, I hope you consider giving this project a shot. Break a leg at auditions! |

Audition Lines:Line 1:
"I ran all the way to the Notary. For the wedding license. I have been made Captain of The Pharaon, Mercedes. Will you be a Captain’s wife?" Line 2:
"No, Monsieur, death is no punishment. Death is the release. True justice, on this earth, is nothing more nor less than the protracted application of equal and appropriate pain. One might, for example, kill the son in order to destroy the father. (Chuckles.) But forgive me. I have distracted you for too long." Line 3:
"Oh God, fool that I am! What have I done? I have lost the thing I most wanted! I have buried myself deeper in hate than ever I was buried in the Chateau d’If. If it is only the dead who leave the Chateau d’If, then why did I have to live?! Only the dead... (Realization:) Only the dead!" |

"Fernand, I don’t care whether Mercedes marries you, Edmond, or Napoleon Bonaparte himself. All I care about is that Dantes never becomes Captain of The Pharaon." Line 2:
"Well, the word “unlimited.” ...It’s rather vague. In financial circles we like to be slightly more specific. Perhaps if you would tell me exactly how much you wish to draw at present?" Line 3:
"What in the name of God is happening here? Who are you?" |

"You are my son, Edmond. You are the child of my captivity. I chose the church, but God, in his wisdom, gave me a son. A son to console the prisoner who could not be free… (He erupts in a coughing/choking fit. He then proceeds to die.)" |
