Well, Toonami Asia has shown a clip of Goku for their dub. Kinda sounds like Genos from One Punch Man.

Goku sounds alright. I'm impressed with Goten's voice, for the little we've heard of it.

Not a big fan of this Goku (although I'll give it a shot when the dub comes out, hopefully we can see it legally). Whoever the VA is, he seems to have the personality fine, but he sounds super... airy. Also, when he went Super Saiyan, his shouts sounded really lackadaisical. I'm not saying the VAs need to blow their vocal chords out every time they record a session, but it lacks intensity IMO.

Yeah, I had similar feelings about it too. The way he talks lacks the same kind of high spirited energy that I'm used to hearing from the previous Goku VAs. I appreciated the somewhat unique take on the fighting kiai (although Kelamis did it way better) but so far it's coming off more goofy than anything which could admittedly be because of the comedic tone of the scene. I'll wait until I hear more before I fully judge it but so far I'm not impressed.

This is part of the problem in hiring a studio that's never dubbed Dragon Ball extensively, they'll inevitably have these growing pains because they're not fans of the stuff and likely have limited knowledge of the source material. At least Ocean has a track record and established VAs who've done this before and know the characters they're playing. They would've been a far better option for this dub yet Toei strangely go with a new studio. It's a very shortsighted move on Toei's part, it would've been great back in 1999 when Dragonball was left without professional VAs but now? Highly questionable imo. The fact that they aren't even trying to deviate much from Funimation's own approach with a Texas dub on the way makes this even more baffling.

I'm really trying to keep an optimistic view about all this but they're not making it easy for me.

On a slightly more humorous note, I find it amusing how the dislike bar shot up in the recent hours when we reached a more American friendly timezone.

Quick question, if Funi's dub isn't out what's this?

"This one was very hard to do, but in the other hand I think its one of my best one. Tell me your opinion in the comment section ! Also, IT'S NOT A FAN DUB, it's more like an edit with the english voices."

It literally say's that in the description for the video.

You know, I think the initial response to Lex's(Or whoever's) Goku has been a little too harsh. Goku is kind of hard character to get right and for a first attempt this is much better than most of the other actors who have played. I would argue with just a few competent lines he's already better than Steve Blum or either of the Blue Water voices period, especially Jeremiah Yurk. That's not a very high bar, but it's something.

And it's not enough material to base an opinion on. If a few episodes were out, then I could understand it.
