Default Capcom is open to being bought out

http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/2...ossibility.php

It seems that Capcom's financial troubles are catching up to them and now their shareholders have opened up the company to being bought. This could be very interesting if some other big game company decides to do it. All I can think is, "Please don't let it be EA."

Or Microsoft, after what they did to Rare.

I find it oddly cathartic seeing all of Capcom's anti-consumer practices coming back to bite them.

Capcom has had it coming for a while. I just don't want to see all of the great properties they own go down in flames with them. I'm actually not sure what company I would want to buy them is, although it certainly isn't Microsoft.

Don't worry guys I've heard stories that according to the Japanese legal system a Japanese company cannot be bought out by an American company so that automatically rules out Microsoft or western 3rd parties like EA.

On that note its been said that the most likely candidates are Nintendo, Sega and (to a lesser extent) Sony. Personally I think that Nintendo and Sega are the most likely choices. Though this news has made some folks like yours truly wonder about the news of Mega Man being in the next Smash Bros and how Capcom recently announced that they will be releasing a bunch of games for the Wii U and 3DS VC. Mere coincidence or is Capcom trying to appeal to Nintendo so they will hopefully help them out in the near future? That is something to ponder about...

I'm really sure that Capcom will be part of a great American video game company now. Your thoughts?

It's sad seeing so many companies going down the tubes, especially when it usually means reducing the number of marketed companies since an established one will be who buys them out.

Such as moving from 25 growing gaming companies in the '80s down to 8 mainstream companies in the the '10s and difficulty for any new one to get established.

IIRC that won't be true since Capcom is a Japanese company. Apparently in Japan its illegal for a foreign company to buy a Japanese company so if any company buys them it would be a Japanese one.

In the past few years, Capcom has been one of the worst cases of a formerly legendary company falling from grace. In this case the possibility of new management is a godsend, especially if it's somebody actually capable like Nintendo. The ramifications of Nintendo holding the Mega Man, Ace Attorney, Viewtiful Joe, Resident Evil or Monster Hunter IPs, not to mention the numerous dead IPs Capcom have been sitting on for years would be massive. Especially since they're on very good terms with Platinum Games, which is composed almost entirely of former Capcom talent.

Maybe there will be more than a snowball's chance in hell that we might get Mega Man Legends 3 if Capcom is put under better management as well. I'd love to see better Resident Evil games again too.
