Default Samurai Pizza Cats - Voice Corrections (Guest Spots and One-Shots)

For a while, I've been trying to correct several mistakes in the Samurai Pizza Cats English dub after nearly 20 years or so. So far, thanks to Wikipedia of all things, I find out that there's two more uncredited voices for the show -- Bronwen Mantel and Aron Tager (Tager's FB manager confirmed this to me, but Aron doesn't remember much; sent him a link to a couple of YouTube videos to jog his memory.). Not to mention the fact that Terrence Scammell told me several characters that were supposedly voiced by him were not so. (ie, Mark Camacho voicing Jerry Atrick, not Scammell.) I've wondered on how many other mistakes I made in the past, so I decided to this little experiment. Starting with the episode "Mission in Manhattan", I made voice clips of each of the guest characters (excluding the Geisha robot from that episode for now), and test your deduction skills.

First up is The Sundance Kid, the leader of the New York City Pizza Cats. Many say he's voiced by Rick Jones, but after hearing the episode after a long time, I doubt that to be true. Here's the link to the clip:

As for Cosmo, we know he's actually voiced by Canadian actor and reporter, Michael Rudder. Take a listen and see if me and Terrance are correct on this judgement:

Next up is Dee Dee, the mistress of the group. I don't think that I can recall Sonja Ball voicing sexy characters, so this might be a different, albeit uncredited actress. Take a listen:

https://app.box.com/s/jtlgn4gjtptzsh5wcww2qqlj53avctwj

Abigail, the group's Francine, has a bit of a New Yorker accent that sounds a bit different than Pauline Little. Have a listen, but I'd be surprised if that's Mary Long (Canadian Molly/Naru) having a one-off guest spot:

https://app.box.com/s/c7n6o41ikeklxuuxtmlke42u6g39w5mw

Next on the chopping block is Lucinda, the city's version of Lucille. Sounds a little high pitch to be Lucille. My money's on Pauline, but I doubt it. Have a listen:

And finally, we have Sir Chester Chedder, Big Cheese's uncle, and one of his relatives in the US (there was a cousin Jack mentioned during the reunion scene, where he mentions that he's from Monterrey). Sir Chester only has two lines, but I'm sure he'll be recognizable to those who've seen Canadian dubs of anime back in the day:

So, that's it for now, hope you guys can figure this out, and see if you'll be surprised on what you can guess. Any updates will be added when I get some good leads.

Looks like they're a bit harder than I thought. I'll go for an easy discovery or two.

For one, I think that Jane Woods provided the voice of Empress Freida and (probably) a few other side characters. Take a listen for her role of Lisa (in "David the Gnome") and see if you can hear what I can hear:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMdflpRwwgQ

Also, my theory on many of the SPC cast going around for several anime dubs in the early 90's might not be far off, since we also venture into another show for the chibi crowd, "The Adventures of the Little Koala". From what I can tell, one of the penguins that's voiced by Bronwen Mantel sounds a bit like Junior. Take a listen:

Apologies for the quality, but you'll see what I mean. Bronwen also voices a character named Ms. Lewis, so I'm sure the voice she gives for her might be familiar to you. Not to mention, that after a few more listens, I think Bronwen might also be Carla. I'm unsure, but I still wouldn't be surprised if Pauline Little was Carla, since she and Francine sound similar.

Let me know what you think. Hope you guys can figure out the NYPC characters as well.

Sorry for the delay. Still no word from Terrence on the following, but I hope you guys can help me out.

Meowzma O'Toole: Since many have confused Rick (Jones) for voicing him for years, I'm starting to think that Michael O'Reilly (Bad Bird) voiced him. To me, he sounds like a deeper voiced version of Bad Bird.
https://app.box.com/s/mti8ozjwp1okqjz3c8n9xp0wmkqwxmg9

Princess Vi: I know many said it's Susan Glover voicing her, but after hearing some clips, I'm starting to doubt that. Sounds like it might be Bronwen Mantel. Take a listen:
https://app.box.com/s/3pl7xueatnbxsa6bxy2wg7wtcxuom7b4

Mama Mutt & Junior: Might not be Sonja and Pauline, but sounds like someone else did their voices, judging how similar voices appear in other shows.
https://app.box.com/s/hoypx89om0z055artk8nr8hzqnn37m5o

Empress Freida: Methinks that this is Jane Woods, but I just wanted to be sure.
https://app.box.com/s/m8bl7x4hxjd5a7glwz32loisyrb6i60s

Bucky: Francine's boyfriend. Might be a regular or a one-off guest voice in the Canadian region. Mistakenly thought it was Mark Camacho back in the day.
https://app.box.com/s/99966bvt4gl5w3s5wmbmxjn2exerd9bt

Wally: Lucille's brother. This one still confuzzles me, since it sounds cartoony enough to be recognizable.
https://app.box.com/s/g1b2jbclvnavexmzqptpc0gtdjuujhi9

Professor Ohm and Ohm Jr.: Still unsure about this two as well.
https://app.box.com/s/8ioqjviofymjudwwfoqwi1vthuepzweo
https://app.box.com/s/j6x4pb3kfo26ikarmick69cet3nq97yp

I. Beam: Also might sound like Arthur or another voice actor, but I'm unsure at this point.
https://app.box.com/s/1orhexpynf8qm9nrigs4595eoto12gfd

Big Frank: The one-off robot was really funny as a Frank Sinatra knock-off. Judging from its design, it's the only time a Kinnikuman knock-off can do a good Frank Sinatra impression.
https://app.box.com/s/miv5sz8b76rcsebacsfvljkl97arx6ad

Fernando Curtenzuela: Might be one of the credited actors or the uncredited ones.
https://app.box.com/s/fbj63qzf6nicdm144h3jpzgsukspk7yr

Time Master: This voice still cracks me up. Another character whom I mistakenly thought Mark Camacho voiced.
https://app.box.com/s/voiehl8oiwoorf8x61hhkgxua8fgkl90

Hope you guys can help me out on this. Remember, most of the names I found out were uncredited, so they might be other Canadian actors that were active around that time. Please let me know soon.

I know this hasn't gotten any traction in a while, but I did get most of the info from Terrence Scammell himself. However, he isn't sure about these three, because he said that some of the minor roles were done by those who haven't done voice-over much, and he wasn't sure. Let's see what you guys think:

Carla Crow:
https://app.box.com/s/uzkzjjw7ek1w6eoim11t7895nsizs1t4

I still think it's Bronwen Mantel, but when I got in touch with Liz MacRae (Princess Vi), she states that it might be her or Jane Woods.

Mojo Rojo:
https://app.box.com/s/k9azn74mafmtc23975lrmm9dcpv1zsgb

Rude Noise member Mojo Rojo has a different actor voicing him in a few episodes. Definitely doesn't sound like Rick [Jones] was voicing him.

Potted Pig:
https://app.box.com/s/uhp94c9gsc4smkt12az1lommg7nuwrod

This was from the episode, "Close Encounters of the Pig Kind". Sorry for the short file, but it was the only line of dialogue from the pig in the episode; there were mostly snorts.

So far, it appears that several Canadian actors did the voices, and I'm guessing that SPC got several regulars from Cinar's productions. Let's see what you guys can figure out?

Default Carla Crow (Samurai Pizza Cats)

As many of you guys know, I've been trying to correct a lot of cast mistakes that plagued the English dub of "Samurai Pizza Cats". As many of you know, only seven names were credited for the main characters, and the rest were uncredited; making the mistaken assumption that this was an ensemble piece where everybody did everyone. (For lack of a better term.) I've gotten many of the characters with their correct voices; the most recent being the late Gary Jewell as the English voice for Rude Noise member Mojo Rojo. (Many thanks to Michael Rudder for the assist.)

However, there is still one character that many cannot recognize: Bad Bird's love interest, Carla. Based on what I've heard, I thought she was voiced by Bronwen Mantel (a part of me still thinks this way, but I'm unsure). However, when I brought it up to both Terrence Scammell and Michael Rudder, neither of them recognized her.

They said that Carla was voiced by someone who didn't last long in the voice industry, and that's where you guys come in. I need an assist on those familiar with the Montreal talent pool around the early 1990's and see what theories you guys come up with. Here's the clip of Carla I put together for reference:

https://voca.ro/i3kG77FPJkO

It may sound like Bronwen or Jane Woods, but I'm unsure at this point. One name that would be eliminated would be Barbara Poggenmiller. I e-mailed her about it, and even though her lack of voice-work might've been a factor, she wasn't involved with the production. I do have a theory on Carla being voiced by Jessalyn Gilsig from "Young Robin Hood". Jessalyn would go on to bigger things (most notably "Vikings"), but it might be a stretch, since she would've been 19 or 20 depending on the recording of the dub. I am planning on asking her on Twitter about it, but we'll see.

What do you guys think? Which Canadian voice actress do you think gave Carla her voice? Hope you guys help me out in solving this riddle.

If we're talking only on the basis of being minor Montreal voice dubbing talent with few credits in the early 90's-late 80's; here's a few I could gather.

Carol Ann Francis
Gayle Garfinkle
Jessalyn Gilsig (as you already pointed out)
Morgan Hallet
Linda Lonn
Anna MacCormack
Carla Napier
Linda O'Dwyer
Cleo Paskal

Thanks, Bladez! Although, out of all of them, Gayle's still active; despite the only main role she got was much later with Tripping the Rift. I think I might be positive on Carla being voiced by Jessalyn, owing to watching an episode of 'The Little Flying Bears". Might make some audio clips to compare later on.
