It's not the first thing that was safe in Disney's Star Wars.

But yeah, I'm positive they'll try to go the safe route again by getting another easy director. It would be a huge waste of time and money to just scrap the dang thing. If there is one thing Disney hates the most, it's wasting money.

Next to copyright infringers and supposed "I originally created Zootopia" claimers.

In a situation like this, a "safe" choice is the smart choice. Not to belittle the work of any creative director, writer or producer, but they 'just' need someone to come in and finish the last 15% of the shoot and then work in post. A lot of work where a lot of creative choices are still made in post, but still. They don't need a creatively inspiring choice, they need someone who can finish what someone else has started. They need someone who can be handed a set of instructions and be told "follow this". A talented director who doesn't mind coming into the middle of a puzzle to finish putting the pieces together as he's told in the overall plan of what Disney, LucasFilm and Miller/Lord have set forth.

My feelings about the Han Solo origin movie have been a real roller coaster. When it was originally announced, Han Solo's origin story seemed like the lamest possible idea for a Star Wars spin-off movie and the choice of directors didn't really affect my feelings (haven't to date seen any of Lord/Miller movies). Then Rogue One came out and quickly became possibly my personal favorite Star Wars movie (still not sure whenever I like it more than Empire), so I decided to give every Star Wars Anthology movie the benefit of doubt. But firing the directors when there's only three weeks of shooting left is little worrying.

For posterity, not 'fired'. They left the project due to "creative differences". Not that that makes it any less worrying, I give you that.

^Hmm. It seems like headlines now are using the term "fired" but not really providing anything that proves it in the body of the article. Clickbait titles for what is a vague and diplomatic phrasing for them parting ways, I guess.

EDIT: "Well, there it is." - Ian Malcolm

"The directors did not leave the production voluntarily, but were fired by LucasFilm."

Teaser is tomorrow.

Donald Glover looks cool as Lando. Alden Ehrenreich, I'll have to see.....

This better be worth it but otherwise....

Jon Favreau has a voice role in the movie apparently and this isn't the first time he's been in the Star Wars franchise.

I’ll totally watch it! And Disney has been doing a great job with the franchise too, both with the movies and the publicity articles!
