De Niro? Patrick Swayze? Seems like at least the former would be too big for something like this. Maybe David Lander?

Not at this point in his career. Not that big just yet. And Patrick Swayze was just getting started in the 70's

Off the top of my head, in the 70s De Niro was in

Mean Streets
The Godfather Part II
Taxi Driver
Deer Hunter

Even if he didn't win an Oscar yet he was certainly too big to be doing VO for TMNT.

Robert De Niro fits the Brooklyn rage like a glove. I had considered George Carlin or Alan Arkin

With Seth Rogen taking a stab at the Turtles, the cynical d-bag in me was like, "Pfft, I bet he's just going to cast the usual Rogen/Apatow circle of friends".

But then I thought about it a bit more, because the more I imagined it, the more I realized that it's not an awful list of potentials...

Bill Hader as Leonardo, James Franco as Raph, Michael Cera as Donny, Jonah Hill as Mikey...

Um... just quickly about that...

Wasn't it reported that Rogen himself has said he has no plans to work with James Franco again?

Michael Cera as Donny actually sounds really good though.

Touche, and thank you for the reminder. I'm not sure what Rogen-regular I'd swap him out for, to be honest. McBride's got the right attitude, but I don't know if he could pull off sounding younger.

I mean, shoot, Hader has range, just double-cast him, ha ha.

You know, kinda hilarious how Gwendoline Yao was listed as a candidate for Karai given she did go on the voice her in Rise of the TMNT since that comment was made.

Anyway, gonna list potential VA candidates myself for the franchise beginning with April:

- Kimberly Brooks (if they go with Black April like in Rise of the TMNT)
- Grey Griffin
- Kari Wahlgren
- Laura Bailey
- Tara Strong
- Jennifer Hale
- Ashley Johnson
- Kate Higgins
- Kate Micucci

Thoughts on these April VA suggestions?

I'd rather see April go to newer, up-and-coming actresses closer to the character's age, personally.

This isn't a knock to any of those actresses' skills, but none of the above are hurting for work. And even though both Kate Micucci and Ashley Johnson are the "least" prolific of them, and have the little easter egg casting gag of having been involved with TMNT in other roles, April's always struck me as a character that is perfect for someone relatively new to the business. There'd be lots of interaction with other VAs based on the ensemble nature of the show for some good back-and-forth banter (ie, good and quick practice if they're relatively inexperienced), as well as less pressure from being #1 and headlining the show.
