Default "Joker" (2019)

The new official teaser trailer for Joker just came out.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t433PEQGErc

I would'a preferred a permawhite joker and not a Heath Ledger inspired one, but I'll still take this one any day over Jared Letto. All the same I have a feeling this might be good. (Hopefully)

"we live in a society"

Joking aside, Well it's at least doing something different in terms of the comic book movies we've gotten as of late, being its own elsewhere type of story. I hope it's actually good and paves the way for more original standalone stories not set in a expanded universe.

I mean it's not in the DCEU or what's left of it.

Personally I'd prefer a singular continuity, one that could particularly contend with Marvel, but I suppose standalones could make a refreshing break once in a while, heck Marvel itself may consider doing the same. (FOX doesn't count)

It's for the best after how Zack Snyder's failures they went in this direction.

and yes Marvel Studios should try this. that way you can keep using the same characters like Iron Man and Captain America but without the need to rely on RDJ or Chris Evans.

Ah well, too each their own I suppose, I'll just drop it there.

I agree with your last sentence btw.

I remember how much I liked the first trailer for Suicide Squad. It had such a somber, twisted tone to it. I was excited at the idea of DC creating a movie following villains: nasty, disturbed individuals (who hopefully still had some depth and tragedy to them). I wanted an intense, uncomfortable, grim film, and given who would be the main characters, I thought it was appropriate. I lost most of my interest when I learned that they were re-shooting a bunch of it and changing the tone.

Hopefully, this will be the one to deliver.

Given the things I've heard of Solo and Suicide Squad, it seems apparent that hiring a director with a certain vision and nearly finalizing a film, only to haphazardly butcher it and rearrange it as something else, usually leads to either an unsatisfying, mediocre-at-best movie, or a disaster. Imagine that?

With that said, I enjoyed the trailer. I'd give it a shot.

For the first time in, uh, ever, for a "superhero" film, I want to see this because of the actors attached. Joaquin Phoenix and Robert de Niro? Sign me the hell up.
