Nice use of Cranston, considering his brushes with dubs.

Just had an interesting thought--suppose the legal complications that prevented Netflix from using the original ADV dub didn't occur, and they could stream the show as it was. What happens to the cast they assembled for the re-dub? Then it hit me: hypothetical animated adaptation of the spin-off manga The Shinji Ikari Raising Project, aired as a companion piece to the original show and movies (and the Funimation-dubbed Rebuild films).

Raising is inspired by (but very different from) the alternate universe glimpsed in the last episode of the show; basically, the slightly raunchier manga equivalent of an Archie comic. (It's also based on a video game of the same name.)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neon_G..._Project#Manga

ANYWAY, suppose they go through with the adaptation. That leaves us with three flavors of EVA to choose from--the ADV show and movies dub, the Rebuild dubs, and now this.

Hypothetically speaking, the Netflix re-dub cast would voice each character they were given, but they'd be joined by a quartet of new faces. (Well, one of them isn't totally new, since she also originated from an EVA game.)

Mana Kirishima - Colleen O'Shaughnessey: originally from the video game Girlfriend of Steel, Mana in Raising is essentially the Cheryl Blossom to Rei and Asuka's Betty and Veronica, only not as haughty and arrogant as Ms. Blossom.

Because the regular bridge bunnies (Makoto, Shigeru and Maya) are reworked as teachers in the manga, their roles as NERV techs are filled by three new faces:

Kaede Agano - Eden Riegel
Satsuki Ooi - Stephanie Sheh
Aoi Mogami - Cherami Leigh

I also decided to bring in new voices for the mothers (who are alive and quite well in this series):
Yui Ikari - Wendee Lee: the level-headed leader and mother figure to Rei; often embarrassed by her husband's goofball antics
Kyoko Zeppelin Sohryu - Dorothy Fahn: the sleepy, flighty ditz of the trio, who sometimes unintentionally embarrasses Asuka
Naoko Akagi - Barbara Goodson: the 'Mrs. Robinson' of the trio, with a thing for Gendo and a penchant for making Yui ever the tiniest bit jealous.

Thanks. I manage to hit on a good one every now and then.

I was inspired after reading the manga itself. Raunchy elements aside, it's so Archie you could commission enough fan art to fill a museum wing. Look at the archetypes most of the characters fill and it works:

Shinji - Archie: clumsy, polite, object of affection for a number of girls in every plot

Rei - Betty: girl-next-door-type, more reserved

Asuka - Veronica: outgoing, a bit bossy, high opinion of herself

Mana - Cheryl Blossom: unknown factor adding more trouble for the central love triangle

Toji and Hikari - Moose and Midge: the jock n' Jill couple

Kensuke - Dilton: the geek in glasses

Only two unaccounted for archetypes are the Jughead and the Reggie.

Heh, I just took a look at these two humor pieces:

https://m.fanfiction.net/s/574379/1/...-dubbed-by-DIC

https://m.fanfiction.net/s/5484691/1...got-Evangelion

I wonder what a voice cast for either of those would be like.
