Default Dark Cat

A horror/drama OVA from the early 90s based on a very obscure manga; about two teenage werecats who fight evil emanating from a high school. Ryotaru Okiayu started his career as a seiyuu in this. Has a laughably bad dub and the subtitling apparently wasn't much better.

I'm here to find about 25% of the dub voices and what three characters are supposed to be named. I have images for all of the characters and for the Japanese credits, and i can show them if need be.

Oh, and this is not a hentai or pornographic work at all. Viewer discretion is advised, though.
====

Production

This was recorded at Planet2Planet/ PlanetToPlanet studios in New York City during 2002-ish. Their website is down and has never mentioned anything other than music production, but AnimeNewsNetwork gives credits on this and some actual hentai titles. I am aware hentai is unfit for site inclusion, i only bring these works up as a way to figure out actors and whatnot.

The director, "T. Bone Wang" is using a pseudonym and apparently only ADR directs things from Planet2Planet. The name might be an alias of owner Kirk Yano, but that's uncertain.

The credits are slightly inaccurate, but having seen this movie about 3-4 times, i've figured out much of the correct information on the characters' names.

Missing Cast

Jukokubo: "Fred Felt"

Principal Hisamatsu: "Mauricio Diablo"

Blatant hentai names. These characters are supposed to be one and the same, but they have two different English actors. Fred Felt has other credits according to AnimeNewsNetwork, but only on some hentai also recorded at Planet2Planet. I can't find anything else on Mauricio Diablo, nor am i even sure it's a different person.

Jukokubo example: from 20:32 to 21:32
Hisamatsu example: from 9:08 to 9:30

Takako Asagaya: Sharon Levine

I assume this is a real name, given she's not credited in any other works. I can't find much information about her or anyone she could be.

Example: 3:41 to 5:07

Sakiko Egami: (uncredited)

Has one or two lines of dialog. She's not to be confused with the sick girl at the start of the anime, nor Takako Asagaya above.

Example: 23:50 to 24:00

Mu Douji: Cynthia Hartzell

Like Sharon Levine, i'm sure this is a real name as she doesn't really have other anime credits. IMDb says she appeared as an extra on one episode of Monk, but that show isn't filmed in New York City nor does it take place there. She might be in those live-action dubs though. I also found a lead in somebody who does production work in Los Angeles who went to college for theater arts just outside of NYC, but there's no way to verify it.

Example: from from 26:40 to 28:00

Sick Girl: Savannah Zavie Blu

Another pseudonym, but she's got only one scene and she talks throughout most of it.

Example: from 0:58 to 2:12

Kondo

Nishimura

Yamamoto

These three are credited as "Big Boy Gang" in the English credits, each individually listed as "Thug" on most websites, and are voiced by David Fino, Curt Gebhart, and T. Bone Wang.

Each of these guys has a stereotypical NYC accent, with slight variations. Kondo has a "cool" slightly-deep voice, Nishimura has a simpleton voice, and Yamamoto has a slightly higher voice that almost resembled the pink shirt bully's.

Kirk Yano's voice sounds nothing like any of the gangsters, but clearly nobody's using their natural voice. David Fino also plays character of Ryoi (the brown-haired werecat you can see on the cover) and Curt Gebhart also plays this guy.

Example 1: from 10:04 to 10:32
Example 2: from 24:03 to 24:16

Cast:

I've pieced together the following people as the rest of the dub cast:

Hyoi Kagezaki: David Fino; credit listed on the page
Ryoi Kagezaki: Alvaro J. Gonzalez
Hiroki Koizumi: Glen Lorieo (as Otto Focus) (he posted a rip on his youtube; soundcloud account of the same name has him list a song from an album he produced, verified by his LinkedIn)
Aimi Koenji: Kelly Lett (likely but not necessarily decisive)
Mr. Iwata: Curt Gebhart
Ms. Ogawa: Suzanne Savoy (as Suzy Prue)

T. Bone Wang was also credited as Dubbing Supervisor/Manager in a bunch of hentai titles from Central Park Media in the 2000-2001 period. CPM's Dubbing Supervisor/Manager on their regular titles at the time was Christopher Sippel, who seems to have left CPM around the same time. Sippel is credited as doing voices in the Geobreeders OVA.

He's probably also Dark Cat script adapter "Chris Norman", who was CPM's hentai Dubbing Supervisor in 1999. Norman has a voice acting credit in the Zero Woman: Final Mission live action dub.

Here's Sippel's LinkedIn. Would match up with him jumping from CPM to Media Blasters for the same years.

I'm pretty sure the guy you mentioned died a couple years ago (lifespan listed on page as January 8, 1956- April 7, 2017; 61 years). Notice that a person named Joe Birish recommended him for dubbing on his LinkedIn and left a passage for him on the memorial page.

There's also a report made the year before about him being charged with committing a sexual offense and one earlier about him getting caught doing serial robberies. The location and ages listed for him make me think it's the same person. Not going to have any further comment on these, for obvious reasons.

Back on topic, the most i can find that is absolutely Sippel's voice is him singing something made 20 years ago. This is listed on his obituary again. His other credits under any name are either not matched or uncertain. And we obviously can't contact him directly.

It's definitely not Kirk Yano at the very least, considering T. Bone's work spans outside of Planet2Planet. I suspected Yano due to him being the director for the Planet2Planet credits.

That's interesting, since it list him as adr directing and script adapting for Media Blasters, but Sippel was never credited in anything MB released at the time.

Also the only other New York dubbing studio Media Blasters worked with at the time was NYAV Post, and the people directing and adapting those dubs were generally known quantities.

Editing again...ok, I missed a few dubs they did with Headline Sound. But again, the directors and script adapters are generally known people like Michael Sinterniklaas, Sean Schemmel, Crispin Freeman, Rachel Lillis, Lisa Ortiz... etc. "Mr. Wang" is the only one that matches Sippel's Linkedin.

I think i have a lead on who Sakiko Egami could be: Donna Coney Island.

It's not apparent from her page, but 90% of her character roles have her come off with some sort of hoarse NYC area accent; which the character almost certainly has. In addition, the rest of her known anime roles are hentai recorded at Planet2Planet.

But by that token, i'm almost positive "Kelly Lett" as "Aimee" Koenji is Shannon Conley under a pseudonym, rather than the unrelated actress. It just sounds way too much like her for it to be anyone else. Sharon Levine's Takako appears with her in almost every scene she's in, if you need a sample. That and i'll try to make some clips.

In addition, i'm pretty sure the bully Yamamoto is Curt Gebhart; it's basically his Ryo Sakazaki. Still unsure about the other two.

Lastly, i'm still pretty unsure about who Jukokubo/ Principal Hisamatsu and the Sick Girl are- though Meredith Zeitlin has that lispy voice the sick girl has, albeit nothing conclusive.

Aimee is the brown haired girl with the yellow ribbon? In that case I don't hear it. Conley is a much better actress, and a trained singer with good voice control at higher pitches. She typically gives a solid performance even when working with sub-par studios. The voice is a bit similar I guess, but the performance is way off.

Yeah, Aimi ("Aimee" as the English credits mislabel her) is the brown-haired girl. While i don't think it's not Conley just because the acting isn't good enough (who says she isn't phoning it in? everyone on both sides of production had to have thought this was a hentai until they started recording), you have a point about the voice modulation.

I forgot to mention this in the last post but, Sakiko Egami could be Suzanne Savoy again. The voice sounds as husky and stuff, but again, this is just speculation. I really need to work on recognizing voices, heh. Or at least describing what i hear.

In any case, have the rest of the cast images, for clarity:

Hyoi Kagezaki

Ryoi Kagezaki

Hiroki Koizumi

Aimi Koenji

Mr. Iwata

Ms. Ogawa

EDIT: I should also state re:Conley, i try to go easy on actors I've never heard of giving bad performances. Nothing against you or anything, i just feel a bit sorry for people who only have one or two credits. Sometimes it's the only evidence they ever existed.
