I'm super-touched you guys think it came out well. It's a whole new beast doing dubbing; very hard to get into the zone under all the constraints of the mouth flaps, etc, so it means a lot to hear you guys think it sounds good in the end! You're the people that would know!
Indeed, dubbing anime into English is much more arduous than other projects that involve voice-over. Matching the lip flaps correctly takes lots of practice, and casting the VAs involves a great deal of trial-and-error. But, it's still a great experience, and I'm sure that you've all learned a lot in the process.

Don't worry about missing a few episodes, especially considering how Pokémon is nearing its 800th.

It's a definite improvement over the previous ones (especially that dreaded Unova League). The flashbacks of the legendaries is actually quite reminiscent of the final cutscene involving them in the original Black & White Versions (though not nearly as epic).

Completely agreed on all accounts. This is a huge step up from the last few episodes, and in the dub, a definite improvement from the episode that preceded it. Hopefully they can keep up the good work.

My only real complaint about this dub episode is really Team Rocket (again), but only due to the excess alliterations and rhymes. I wish Carter Cathcart/Jimmy Zoppi and Michele Knotz would quit using them in such a large volume like they did in the DP dub...sure, it has its charm, but in excess they get a bit overbearing sometimes.

Sometimes they are legitimately funny and I'll give Carter that some lines were actually an improvement over the original JPN version (like when TR called Team Galactic a bunch of "fashion freaks" in the dub, or when Jessie kept mispronouncing Hippopotas in a manner actually funnier than Musashi did due to the dub's dialogue), but most of the time it's somewhat annoying (like saying "stash it in the hatch," "it keeps on smackin' and keeps on flappin'," or "pilfering and pinching us a primo Pokemon").

Still, it was a good episode for the English dub.

I understand how difficult it must be. From what I've heard, usually in standard animation they have the actor deliver the lines first and then animate the scenes, but when it comes to dubbing, it's an entirely different experience. Many even consider it more difficult because, like you said, you have to match the lip flap, the character, and some even want performance as close to the original seiyu/JPN VA as possible. There's not as much freedom to really decide who you want to play the character as yourself, so it makes it that much harder to do the performance in that respect.

All things considered, you did an excellent job with this, Mr. DiMichele. From what I've seen so far, you really seemed to understand N, and it seems like you were trying your absolute best to match his character. You gave him a more calm, collected air and yet added that creepy touch he really needs to bring out his more sinister side. All I can say is, great work, and I'm looking forward to the next few eps of the season. It means a lot to me (and I'm sure the same goes for PokeMastaNumba1 and the others) that you've even take time out of your busy day to come and talk to us about your work on Pokemon.

Hey, no problem! I remember growing up on the first few seasons of Pokemon. I was all over message boards and at all the conventions. It's fun to get back into the world of it!

And yes, you're right about normal voicing vs dubbing. It's totally backwards!

These days, I'm actually spending most of my time as a musician and music producer! Just released an LP for one of my projects: Ghost & Goblin. I'd describe it as lo-fi doom pop. Or spooky, heavy alternative. Got some gamey 8-bit stuff in there that I love.

Give it a listen Free download: http://ghostandgoblin.bandcamp.com/

Cool Re: Pokemon Black & White

Myself, I'm looking forward to the rest of the N saga as well, and I know that the BW series can still make a great comeback.

So, about the last episode on CN, it's great to see the Aspertia Gym make an appearance. The battle kinda sucked with Ash losing, but then again, I wasn't expecting too much, what with how Oshawott still hasn't evolved at least once yet. A bit of a weak filler, but still pretty decent overall. The real icing on the cake is that they got Todd Haberkorn to voice Cheren!

Unfortunately, there's still no word on the VAs for either Nanette or James's Amoonguss (and Jessie's Frillish, though I'm 99% sure that that's Kayzie Rogers). I'll try asking Tom Wayland sometime later.

So no Team Rocket episode airing yet? Darn it. Was hoping it would because the episode sounds cool.

Just found out Charizard is back. YEAH. Also not sure if Eric or Bill is in the flashback. Sounds like either.

No offense pete, but that episode is over two months old.

And if you mean Brock, I'm pretty sure it's still Bill Rogers voicing him...though, I haven't seen the episode in English to verify that myself.

I'm sure that was Bill Rogers if we're talking about that old BW episode with the flashbacks..."The Fires of a Red Hot Reunion" IIRC.

I know. I don't follow the anime anymore but I just watched this randomly. I'm glad they finally acknowledged the original series. Hopefully there will be more of that. These Team Plasma poisoned were interesting. Also this ep is the only one without Team Rocket interestingly enough.

It sounds like both honestly. In the scene with the Damian flashback I think it was archive footage of Eric. It sounds like Damien's original 4kids VA too so maybe they left it alone for some reason. Here's the scene. Skip to when Damien appears. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=UjeBPkOET38
