Old games are making a comeback. Especially in the last decade.

I wish that Ancient (previous developer of Streets of rage) was making this game. In truth, I know nothing about DotEmu's portfolio of games, their history of successful games and their reputation. I know DotEmu are making Windjammers 2, which WWE's Xavier Woods is very happy about.
Given how well Sonic Mania turned out, my ideal non-Sega developer would be PagodaWest Games for SoR 4. I liked their approach to Sonic Mania, so hypothetically, SoR 4 would look like a 16bit game with lovely animation. The music played a very important part to the success of older SoR games, so the duo of Yuzo Koshiro and Motohiro Kawashima are a must. If those two are not commissioned to provide the music for SoR 4, I hope the producers of music don't rely too heavily on remixing previous SoR games soundtracks. |

Gameplay trailer dropped:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hdsCVmrfrjI Wall bounce, air combo from thrown enemies, Axel's grand upper voice sample from SOR2, catching knife after it bounces off enemy, able to backdrop Big Ben (rotund person with baseball cap) and 2 silhouettes of possible playable characters? Music sounds...work in progress. |

New character in the form of Cherry Hunter, daughter of Adam Hunter. Unlike her father and uncle (Eddie "Skate" Hunter/Sammy Hunter for the Japanese market) she rocks an electric guitar. |

Such a moron for missing this.
Adam Hunter returns as a playable character. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VwdCxjH7o8 Going by the trailer, Adam's look is in the same colours as he has been since SOR 1, this time wearing sunglasses, trouser/pants braces and black and yellow hi-tops. Adam's basic attack combo is very similar to SOR 1, has a dash into 3 punches, special move is a kick that starts from the back and swings to the front. German suplex returns and has a move that looks like Terry Bogard's (from Fatal Fury) Power Geyser. |

Fifth character is revealed as new boy Floyd Iraia. Comes across as a heavy hitter with a sprinkling of Jax Briggs from Mortal Kombat, especially with the "gotcha" quote and a proton cannon-esque like Iron man from Marvel vs Capcom. Also revealed is the multi player from local co-op to online. Things are looking good. |

4 player co-op
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ViTRVOKQ-zM 2 players featuring Blaze, Adam, Floyd and Cherry https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JewWPjLv4Xw 4 players looks fun but expectantly chaotic. Some of my observations; Cherry is probably the most agile character, especially being able to run. Floyd is the least agile but can move around when holding an enemy. Adam can dash forwards, but I'm guessing Axel, Blaze and Floyd can't run at all. There's landing on feet recovery, very similar to landing after being thrown by an enemy, like it was from previous games. Some enemies, like Goro and Shiva can breakout being held. On the subject of Shiva, this is his best design since SOR2. For sound, music and voice over. From the demo, the hit sounds are kind of weak. There is not much variety of hit sounds. For example Lloyd with his metallic arms should have a metallic hit sound on impact. Instead his hit sound is the same as everyone else. The music was played relatively quiet, but there are tunes that sound from the 90's. The voice over is mostly is miss for me. Plus are Adam and Floyd. Cherry is in the middle. Axel and Blaze are weak sauce, especially Blaze. Good news is that these are demo footage so there's time to improve before final release. |
