Default Multilanguage Videos

I like these multilanguage videos on YouTube comparing different dubs of animated films. Most of these seem to be comparing voices of female animated characters. What is all the fascination, I wonder? Is it the huge Disney Princess following? Or are people more interested in comparing female voices than they are comparing male ones?

I've watched a few of them, too. Mainly the Disney ones.

I've seen a couple of the My Little Pony characters.

Around 2003, I began testing out audio tracks and subtitles on my DVD collection. Now I just do it on Netflix.

I like watching songs in multilanguage because it’s much more difficult to translate songs, while keeping the rhymes and the melody intact, than it is to translate spoken dialogue. It also generally works better for songs that are derived from the same language with the original (English, Spanish, German etc. are influenced by Latin for example), and unrelated languages don’t always dub so smoothly (I’ve heard Japanese dubs, or example, where it sounds like the guy is having a hard time just cramming the words into each line and failing to match the tune).

On the "Lion King" DVD, there's a multi-language version of Hakuna Matata as a bonus feature.

And a behind-the-scenes look on the dubs.

I remember that if you pressed enter on your remote, you could watch a little clip in that language. I remember Dutch and some African language.

Speaking of which, in cases where a movie takes place in a foreign country, it’s interesting to hear a song in the native tongue of whoever’s singing it, like “Arabian Nights” actually sung in Arabic.
