I never knew there were radio shows for LotR. But just by looking at this thread, I have a feeling that it must have been great, especially seeing as the group picture showing shows the actors had fun.

I'm also intrigued by Ian Hoim being in the cast, seeing as I know him best for Ash.

Yes, it was. The cast consisted of extremely talented performers from the BBC radio ensemble. Some of them, like Robert Stephens (Aragorn) and Peter Howell (Saruman) were pretty accomplished stage actors. This show also used two performers that were familiar with the characters they played: Peter Woodthorpe (Gollum) and Michael Graham Cox (Boromir) had played their respective roles on the Bakshi film.

Ian Holm is just great as Frodo. Very enthusiastic and funny yet brave and daring. He also gave a lot of emotion to the character.
