Hi, you don;t need a pro studio.
Just a good room with no sound, normal headset is also ok but I prefer a good microphone.
To me, sometimes I also use a voice changer for my work to edit the voice...

I don't know about the professionals but to me, as a normal person who does voice-over for fun, I am using AV Voice Changer Software Diamond and my headset is only Microlab.

If you are looking for a software to edit, I think Audio Editor is a good choice.
It's free and has many necessary features that can handle your need. :)
